I'm struggling to keep up with the explanations in the video but I am really liking the sound of kitbashing. I'll watch it again and try to follow the steps. I want to learn Blender too, but this sounds like an easier way to dip my toe in the water.
@@herculeholmes504 Blender is an amazing tool, but, it takes a long time to master. There’s plenty of videos on how to use blender, I would start there before jumping in

Bizarre. Another video that's right on target with what I'm actively doing and was wondering about but hadn't specifically searched for. Whatever you're doing, please keep it up.
thank you my man, watched a different video on how to kitbash and that made it a significantly more drawn out process (with 3 different programs) this has boosted my confidence significantly. when i get the funds i'll definitely pick up your creation (though I mainly 3d print for Fantasy games, my brother is into wargaming and would likely be thoroughly thrilled by it)
Hey that's great! Glad to hear the video is helping people out. Yeah you can definitely dive a hell of a lot deeper with programs like Blender but honestly just getting started in 3D Builder is the way and likely for many people as far as they'll ever need to take it. Thanks for your support :)
7:14, If you want to print bashed models hollow, you can use blender's remesh modifier to turn them into one mesh. It's honestly really easy, I cant do anything in blender and I was able to figure it out in less than 5 minutes.
Thank you.. I've been using 3d builder to make digital kitbashs and I completely didn't think about using the subtract tool or the emboss tools... again thank you and you got yourself a sale on that outpost my friend!
Cool to see other people working the same way I do. Blender is a whole can of worms... its a lot I've been learning. 3d builder is a good entry. In my opinion it teaches you 3d space really well.
Nice tutorial and the results certainly look great; thanks for sharing. Any time you want to share printing knowledge, I’ll be watching! (and I love OPR gaming too)
That's awesome, thanks! OPR games have definitely been such a huge boon for casual gamers. I should do some videos on that too, see if I can't help persuade more people to try. Definitely got some more 3D printed stuff in the works coming soon :)
Came here after your video with Gamza and I will definitely be following after seeing this video. This is exactly what I have been wanting to do for my Sludge army and I can wait to try what you have shown here.
I was sad . It's been a while we haven't seen you ! . I didn't knew you could kitbash that way. Very nice . I can't wait to have some ideas now to try the thing myself
Glad to have introduced you to the joy that is digital kitbashing! It can be really rewarding so I do hope you give it a go. Thanks for watching and I should have another battle report out this week :)

I began tinkering with digital kitbashing even before I finally got a digital printer (so recently that I haven’t set it up yet), and for sure I don’t know what I don’t know about combining bits. Looking forward to learning from this and all the other videos.
Thanks. That’s a really simple process for solving an otherwise complex problem. I’d love to see that more advanced version for printing hollow (larger) models.

This. You can also select models and choose to "Ungroup" them. Sometimes the program will detect arms, legs, heads, weapons as separate pieces for you right out of the gate.
Happy to hear you got some value out of it! I learned from one of the other commenters that there's a Merge function in the Edit tab of 3D builder that actually deals with the overlapping geometry, so if you want to hollow something you've kitbashed group your models then merge them and it should be okay - just be sure to double check in your slicer that everything is fine.
Thank you for this knowledge. Thanks to you I did some digital kitbash mashup Battlemechs. The Skaro Urbanmech urbie/Dalek hybrid, and the Cyberatlas a Cyberman Atlas. They can be found on Thingiverse
For us Mac and Linux users, everything you demonstrated there I guess we could do in Tinkercad. It's not the most powerful tool in the world, but if you've never made so much as a cube, you can still use Tinkercad. Except I don't think it has a planar split/cut tool, so for that you jump through the small hoop of making two copies of an object and using a cube to cut it twice.
@@OnceinaSixSide Oh cool. I use Lychee and I haven't paid any attention to the new features they've added. I mainly switched to Lychee because the community resin and printer profiles, while they overexpose a little, are reliable. That, and when a model isn't presupported, Lychee's auto supports do a good enough job when I make them dense but light. I've only used auto-supports for Battletech miniatures, but the only failures I've had were temperature related as I printed overnight. I still _check_ Lychee's work and sometimes add one or two more supports, but generally, they're good enough.
Thanks, I’ve been struggling to do something like this. I’ve been trying to use Tinkercad but many files are too complex to load. +1 subscriber, looking forward to more content.
@@OnceinaSixSide thanks - Been printing a lot of loot stuff and finding whoever did their supports in the welcome pack (Fantasy) was click happy - nearly impossible to get off cleanly - models breaking - lots of supports merged into one another forming a solid tower and far too many supports on bases etc
Great video. I wish I saw this about 4 weeks ago... because I did a couple of parts in blender and now I have parts with tons of internal geometry and outside walls .1mm thick. Is there an easy way to take those hollow models and make them solid or am I better off just doing them again in 3D builder?
Hey man, thanks for putting this out there. Do you have a workflow recommendation? I'm playing around a lot but after a few nasty failures I want to get more serious about validating files/checking islands/making fixes, but there's just so many pieces of software and I'm not sure how to go from one to another.
UV Tools and your slicer of choice is all you need :) Basically slice a file, then load that file into UV Tools and click on the Issues button and it'll draw up a list of all the problems it finds and tell you what layer number they occur on.
I realise this is an old video but i wouldn't do it like that, after cutting the nubbin its simpler to delete the unwanted parts, attach the nubbin tot he new head and merge th 2 parts, sadly 3d builder has been abandoned

very good content, any chance for a keying tutorial? for when you need to split models in different parts
Have you done this same process to combine say a space clown kit so it prints as one model? Or do you prefer printing the bits in pieces?
this video showed up on my feed so first time viewer here. Those look really good! Any tips on making them come out like that? I'm an FDM noob
Nice work. Subbed.
When you use 1 model to delete part of another model is there a way of adding a tolerance in to take account of prices not coming out perfect ?
And a video on how to put magnets in to models would be great
Yep! Just scale up the cutting model slightly before subtracting it from the target model and that will give you some wiggle room.

Check needed but I suppose 2d hollowing in lychee can handle it as it works with bitmap of each layer and not with a 3d model
Do you have any suggestions for "poseable" models? Cause I have no idea how to even start on them
You'll have to dive into Blender for those, here's a pretty in depth guide that should help you out :)
