I use Marvelous Designer quite often, it's very useful for stitching patterns together as one would in reality. It's not easy coming from 3D software but I think it's probably easier than blender if you are coming from a tailoring background
Scaling the torus down with the collision modifier just has it clip through the mesh without altering the simulation. It'll only recognize the torus on next replay and freak out

Awesome video! super helpful! One question tho..why do i have only 250 frames to put the cloth in the right position in method 3? I changed the end frame to 500 but its like it doesnt matter, the simulation stops at 250. Help please!
Hi Grisha. Under the Cloth Physics tab scroll down to "cache" and set the number of frames to whatever you want. Also You need to change the amount of frames in your blender file by either going to render settings or by changing the number underneath the timeline

great tutorial! one problem though, i'm trying out the curtains with hooks and it's not turning out nice as yours 😥 it's bunching up nicely at the top but stays relatively flat at the bottom... I've tried playing around with the stiffness setting but no luck,, any ideas?
Hi there. I was actually stumped by this question and after some experimenting I found that your settings totally depends on the scale of your subdivisions. if you have a lot of vertices then it will fall more loosely, but if you have few vertices then you have to turn all of the stiffness settings down to get similar results. try using these settings under Stiffness: Tension: 1 Compression:1 Shear: 0.1 Bending:0.01 make sure you change these settings _before_ running the simulation.
@@TommyLikeTom thanks so much!! I ended up remaking because blender got glitchy but it's super helpful to know how the settings affect the results. time to wiggle my curtains in sculpt mode 😎😎
Hey Pleyland, this is such an awesome video, thank you! My grids keep falling as soon as I press play, do I have to erase the gravity setting or is this a common problem that has another solutiuon?
You can turn down gravity if that's what you're after but in most cases people want gravity on, make sure you have a pinned vertex group to keep some vertices in place
⚠⚠ Error resolution! CTRL + SHIFT + Numpad+ is not working? I had the same problem as you (the person reading this) and I spent a few hours trying to fix it, and I found the solution. Pay attention! There is a solution, and it can be accessed through two different methods, one from the interface and the other through keyboard commands. Method using keyboard commands: Select the desired object and press the TAB key to enter Edit Mode. Press the Shift + Space keys. A window will appear. If it disappears, press Shift + Space again and make sure not to move the mouse. Without touching anything and without moving the mouse, press the W key (note that the window that appeared when you pressed SHIFT + Space should be displayed on the screen). Now, you probably noticed that the mouse arrow in the left part of the screen where you have the top column with the modeling tools has changed. Now, you can select one point (check at the very top to make sure the point mode is selected (not line, not face)). Select one point, leave two points free, select the next one, and finally, you can press CTRL + Shift + Numpad+ and it will work. Press CTRL + Shift + Numpad+ as many times as needed. Congratulations! You may be wondering how to return to the old mouse selection form? Press Shift + Space, do not touch anything so that the window does not disappear and press the B key. That's it.
Yeah, follow the instructions carefully. I just did it on my PC from memory without following the steps. 1) pin the vertex group 2) add a copy scale constraint 3) press play and scale if you are following the steps and it's still not working then I'm sorry, it's probably your PC or graphics card driver.
How can I make the curtain stop moving? If I move the keyframes or try to move their locations to show curtains staying still at the beginning of an animation they all seem to freak out. Any help concerning this, please?
Interesting problem. I haven't done any cloth animations, this tutorial is just for modeling, but I imagine there must be a way to do it. Try searching for baking cloth animations or initial starting conditions for cloth animation
if i move my curtain made with method one to the desired location, it loses its refined shape and become sort of a smooth blob. any way to prevent this?
With industry keymap i don't have translations. for example i'm pressing R for scale and does nothing. Is there any idea how can i use these methods with industry keymap?
Unfortunately I have no idea what that is. You can use tools from the toolbar instead of shotcuts. Also you can look in preferences to see the keymap for the default software but also for installed addons in the addon menu. Press f3 to search for functions, the key will be displayed next to the function. You can right click on any function to create a shortcut or add to favourties. Favourites are accessed with Q
Hey! Doubt I'll get a response for this, but I figured it was worth a shot--I'm currently trying to use the vertices hook method (like w/ the curtain with the bunched center), but for some reason, when I move the empty it won't do anything? The vertices are shown to be different in frame 1 (though the cloth physics don't effect it), but any frames after don't react to the movement at all and stay in the normal square grid shape. I'm not sure if it's a version difference or something, but I've no clue what setting could effect this, so help would be appreciated?
You need to start a pattern of selection before using that shortcut. If there is no vertex in to select that would fulfill the pattern, it gives that error.
Hi. I want to make a curtain with method 1, but the curtain falls when running the simulation and doesn't form any folds. Only the size of the plane changes when the cube is scaled. Help to understand, please.
you need to pin a vertex group in the cloth physics sections. Create a new vertex group and then select it under the pin section of the cloth physics menu
