I also bought all Inio Asano's mangas because I had to. Met him last year in Tokyo as well and got my Japanese version of Mujina into the deep signed. My life is completed.
So wild you posted this a few days after I got nijigahara holograph hardcover and first couple punpun volumes, now I am waiting for solanin and the rest of punpun!! Decided to start from the beginning of their work (in English) as well as Junji Ito & Taiyo Matsumoto. Got Tomie/uzumaki/gyo & tekkonkinkreet/ping pong/gogo monster so ready to dive in!! (Already finished nijigahara… don’t know if I fully understood the story so I’ll have to reread it lol) Thanks for recommendations like always!!
What a Wonderful World will be tough to get (here's hoping for an omnibus reprint), bit I started with Solanin and immediately ordered most of the rest of his EN catalog. Currently going throigh Punpun right now, read Downfall, and I still need to puck up Dededede and the butterflies book.
Completely agree to have an artistic and creative range from the depths of existential nihilism vs social stinging cynical hilarious political satire in dead dead dead dead dedededededemons his work is a flagship for all of manga .
Great video, I'd probably give the same recommendations for first timers as you did! I figure I'd just throw this out there, but there is a Solanin epilogue out there (very short, only like 50 pages) that was done as a 10 year time skip in the story but was actually completed a near full 10 years after the main book came to English. It was a convention exclusive, so you'll be hard pressed to find a physical copy, but you can get it digitally. It was a pretty good top off to the story and plays on the story's themes quite well! So I recommend giving that a shot to anyone who likes the main story if you haven't already!
I'm watching dead demon dededede destruction rn. It's pretty fun and surprisingly smart. Thought it would be simply childish story, but it's very wholesome and the dialog is funny.
Buy it through VGP, they ship worldwide (Canadian retailer), and it's free shipping if you buy over 80CAD in one order. I'm pretty sure they have it in stock for Switch or PS4. Edit: just checked, and yea they do have Omori in stock for both PS and Switch. Only 40CAD too, consider getting some other game(s) with it so you get the shipping for free.
I will get into Asano manga but need some time before I tackle them because I'm watching Dead dead demons anime and it's pretty meh and the girls are unbearable a lot of times. But when the focus isn't on them which is rare then its watchable. Maybe the adaptation is bad, have to check out the manga. The artwork is much better in the manga than the anime judging by this video.
This is a mangaka I don’t have much interest in, I bought all the volumes of Dead Dead Demons and I absolutely hated it, I couldn’t even finish it, I only got to vol 5, it’s at the very bottom of my top manga list. I just despised Ontan, the endless talking about gaming & pretending to be game characters got on my nerves, even looking at the character annoyed me, but I really liked Kadode. But I just couldn’t finish it, I might try again if I ever run out of something to read.
I love is art and have respect for his stories. But being honest I just can't enjoy his mangas. Sometimes I just look at the pictures like a kid who can't even read 🤣
Got any selections of something dark and grounded without over the top superpowers? I want a Manga that takes a serious look at alien abductions not fun or funny just traumatic
"I think I should start a cult and show these capitalists pigs that aliens aren't the biggest threat of this world they should fear me" (said by some random 8 year old) this caught me off guard and it was hilarious, why would a child say this but that what makes it hilarious. 😂
What I'd give to have _What a Wonderful World_ physically...
Is it a rare one
Start small
Is it out of print?

Pun Pun is probably the deepest and darkest story I've ever experienced. Masterpiece
I've never tapped a video so fast
Gonna give Solanin a try and see how it goes !

I’m on Goodnight punpun vol. 5 and this shit is so good, I’ll definitely be checking out downfall and Munji into the deep
Jealous of Omori for switch on the shelf. We can’t get it in England yet.

If you can, get the amazing Ctrl+T artbooks, specially the second one, they are gorgeous!
There's live action movies of Solanin, Girl On The Shore and Downfall
I like how u reference a24 with his works
That's a decent reason
Inio asano is a legend
Bro I'm STILL too anxious to read punpun. I've heard that's it's just such a mentally and emotionally draining series.
It's not that bad. It's just kinda sad but that's about it.
I wish they would reprint what a wonderful world
U should make a video like this to junji ito because i dont really know where to start with junjis books
What apps would you suggest to read manga digitally?
whats the manga thats left of Biomega?
I regret reading A Girl on the Shore
I lov dededede
you don't have solanin epilogue lol
Start with Punpun 😂 its like starting a new game via Ultra Hard. Lets go!
Make a. Video on junji ito

I was in jail since 3rd grade so my 20s seemed harder since I didn't want an adult criminal record

In reality a child wouldn’t say that, most adults wouldn’t even be that witty.
Waiting for Mujina into the Deep
