    I'm also loving my freeze dryer! Took a bunch of items on vacation, saved so much money! I like to hydrate my cabbage in very cold water alittle at a time drain off any excess then add my sauce. I'll refrigerate for a short time before serving. Has been wonderful!

    Powder some of your freeze dried fruits and use them as flavors when you cook. I use powdered fruit, mostly berries to flavor toppings for baked goods and for yogurt. Freeze dried fruit is expensive. Freeze dried shredded summer squash adds flavor to sauces and thickens it up when you don’t have time to cook it down just like freeze dried tomatoes. I love cilantro but it bolts so quickly before I need it for salsa canning. I freeze dry it for use when I need it. Freeze dried herbs are so so much better than dried in the dehydrator and they keep not only the flavor but more of the nutrients. Just a few ways you can use your freeze dryer. I experiment with mine a lot.

    Like the idea of the freeze dryer method. All foods loose structure all types of preserving. So good on you girl

    We really love our freeze dryer. Your content is really good. We figure that anything we freeze dry turns out better than if we had tried to can it.

    Did you happen to blanche the cabbage before freeze drying it? I am planning to freeze-dry our cabbage and would also like to try Swiss chard, and am wondering if blanching is necessary? Thank you!

      Great question. We did not blanch as we were told it may lose some of its nutritional value

    Have you had success with freeze dried carrots? Mine lost their color and tasted awful. Would love to know how you or others have done your carrots.

      @WhisperingWillowFarm I think heartier stuff like broccoli or potato would be better. Cabbage is already bland and pretty flavorless when it's fresh.
