I was curious if you got the oil-free pump? Is it worth the extra? What kind of oil do the others take? I am guessing by oil-free it just doesn’t need it, but which is best do you think? I’d like to do the most environmentally conscious, if possible. I see it is quite a bit more though as well. However, I was thinking if I had to replace oil that would add up over time, so maybe the oil-free would have multiple benefits and be cost effective long-term.
@@TheFrugalMombot I saw in a different video where she mentioned that one of the steps along with closing that pressurization dial when starting the freeze dryer was to always check the oil as well.
Hi Susan, I’m still catching up on some of Becky’s videos. I love seeing you in her videos too. Love your party prep days. You are so amazingly organised. Have fun on your camping trips. Love and hugs to you and your husband from Australia ❤️❤️🐨❤️❤️
The 1st thing I did was freeze-dried espresso drinks! I am curious what kind of coffee Becky likes since she cut it out. I own a little coffee shop on So Oregon.. hit me up if you are ever in town!
You can freeze your coffee (or any liquid) in ice cubes trays. That way all you have to do is A: put the cubes in the tray and not have to worry about spilling in your freezer. B: save any leftovers coffee in cubes and place in a freezer bag until you have enough to fill a tray. C: it can maximize your space in the freeze dryer. Just an idea. I can’t wait to save up to get one for myself.
You want to concentrate the coffee first by using extremely strong coffee so your machine does not work as hard and you get way more product. I make espresso shots and freeze dry this as it is highly concentrated. Any watery liquid should be concentrated: Broths, soups, etc..

If you can boil water for instant coffee, you can boil water for a French Press coffeemaker. Mine makes up to 34oz., or two good sized mugs. No need for freeze dried coffee, really. And you can buy coarse ground beans too.
This is what I do as well, easy to boil water on the wood stove. I often do this even when we have power just to save electricity.
2 роки тому
@@AcreHomestead I also didn't buy a separate coffee grinder. While I have electricity, I grind whole beans in my Magic Bullet (smoothie blender) & it takes maybe 30 seconds... but, like I said, you can buy coarse ground coffee & eliminate that step completely. Some places that sell whole beans also allow you to grind right there in the store using their equipment, too. My French Press coffeemaker was less than $30 (cheaper than a new electric coffeemaker), so... this does not need to be expensive to have the best tasting coffee ever. 😁
I agree that there are so many ways to prepare coffee, however if someone wants to or sees a need to preserve something, THEY obviously see a need to do so. Whether or not there is a "need" is a personal choice. Maybe it would be more kind to say, what a fun idea, here's another way to do it.... ☺️

@@juliabrown5948 Energy conservation (the freeze drying process uses quite a bit of electricity & I doubt you could do that off-grid on solar or wind without an even larger expenditure on equipment), time (French Press is way quicker than the time it takes to brew, freeze, freeze-dry process), financial considerations & expenditures, etc. There's a tendency for people to think what they do only affects them as individuals, when really we are all dependent & interconnected... need to look at the big picture not just your little niche.

I am shocked by how little coffee was left after the freeze-drying. A little bit of powder must pack a big punch! Your boys are so well-behaved. Couldn't help but smile seeing them being sooo patient for their cheese.
Becky, I am OBSESSED with your videos. I love seeing your face more often and look forward to all your amazing ideas! Sending muchos abrazos!
If you can boil water for instant coffee, you can boil water for a French Press coffeemaker. Mine makes up to 34oz., or two good sized mugs. No need for freeze dried coffee, really. And you can buy coarse ground beans too.
That's a good idea!!
This is what I do as well, easy to boil water on the wood stove. I often do this even when we have power just to save electricity.
Make super strong brewed coffee can help too. Higher concentration, you just add less to water when you rehydrate it again
Never mind, you’ll add the same amount to water 😂 But you will get more out of your dehydration cycle
You can grind up the popcorn kernels and make fresh ground grits!
This is a really cool idea, I dont drink coffee but it gave me a few ideas on what I could freeze dry. Also what good puppies! So patient 💖
My husband doesn't drink coffee. I do a pour over coffee a d it's perfect. I grind the beans right before and put warmed light cream in it.
You can grind/pulse your excess popcorn to make grits. I just saw someone do it in another video...never would have thought of it.
I love your fur baby sitting with his/her legs crossed. So cute 🥰 Of course now you have me wanting to buy a freeze dryer.
Sitting like that is an early indication of arthritis in the elbow 😕
I’m from Eugene and Yes we are coffee snobs in the PNW. Thanks for the video
I must say, I’m learning so much from you! At 71 I only wish I’d known this long ago. I canned our garden results years a ago before moving to Florida 30 years ago. Enjoy this vlog so much I may start again.
Oh my gosh, so excited about your freeze dried cheese! I love seeing all of your freeze drying projects! Also love the dog shots! Orbit and Tibro are so good!
OMG! You are quickly approaching 200K subscribers! 👏🏼👍🏼😀
Hi Becky, When you put the trays in the freezer, use a carpenter level to get a quick easy level of the trays. Also put the trays in the freezer and get them frozen before you pour your liquids on. Love how you experiment and keep looking for better results for your good and now drinks. Hugs from Australia
❤️❤️🐨❤️❤️I’m still catching up on your videos…love them.
Your excitement for your experiments puts a smile on my face 😊
Becky, this is amazing! You’re showing so many things I never thought of doing! Thanks so much!
You have just become my favourite person on earth! Thank you!
Save the lid from he plastic jar of dry Parmesan and that shaker top fits on a regular mouth canning jar. Love the coffee idea! Would like to have a freeze dryer one day.
I also keep shredded cheddar in the freezer.
Hi, I've seen on UA-cam that popcorn can be ground into a flour ! How awesome is that. 🌻
Freeze your coffee in ice cube trays. When you have enough then Freeze dry them
I love watching you. You’re always so excited to share your freeze drying. Love it! I’d love to homestead one day. I’m into fermentation and getting a nice pantry and freezer stocked. I live in an apartment now so I can’t freeze dry but I’m slowly learning about other ways. :)
My husband is getting all the feels with the coffee freeze drying!!
I love that coffee is survival...I was drinking a cup as I watched this! 😎🤣
Your dog crossing its front legs was so cute!
😂 well you already answered my questions. I should have watched longer before asking. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate how you taste tested your results too.👍
Orbit and Tibro are so sweet! 🤗
Im looking into my wish list freeze dryer! Maybe for Christmas!
Thank you Becky!
Becky, this is an awesome video! Thank you for sharing.
If you’re trying to use up popcorn you can blend it in your vita mix and turn it in to grits or corn meal
Love your vids thanks! Open that parchment on the counter and slap that cheese right on the paper, then funnel it in the jar. I like to use my floppy cutting mat same way.
A big hello to you Becky. I was trying to let some people know that Michael's has the plastic photo containers that you use for your seeds for only $14.99 right now. They are regular over $40. Hopefully some people see this. I bought mine online today.
That's so nice of you!!
