The Greatest thing about this video is you can hear in your voice by the end, that the car had brought so much adrenaline to your system that you could hear the jitteriness in your words. And that is truly a beautiful thing. One of the best in depth car reviews on this dream of an automobile. Thank you good sir! You are truly a Gentleman!
Wow. Just discovered you guys via rattarossa. Excellent work. I've been in a F40. Mate had an early model. Then had ac and active suspension installed. He still owns it. From new. John. Australia
Thank you so much for this excellent video! I've been a car guy my entire life and I've owned several Porsche's through the years, including a 911 twin turbo that aside from missing two cylinders, I turned into a power twin of the F40. That being said, I was twelve years old when these cars came out, but still to this day if anyone mentions the term "Super Car," the first thing that pops into my mind is the masterpiece of the Ferrari F40.
Thanks so much for privilege of seeing one of these super cars close up & personal. The breadth & depth of your knowledge is astonishing! Thanks again for sharing.
Superb! Just been viewing the Iain Tyrell F40 restoration also! These are stonking motor cars. Check the weather first - same with a TVR!! Very tail happy in the wet!
another superb video Ian, thank you for your excellent content. Some people would say Ferrari owners are lucky to have the car, I'd say they're lucky to have the option to take it to Barkaways!
The exploded views of the F40 are fascinating. The first car with 'difficult' maintenance I came across was the early 1970s big-block Corvettes where you had to remove the the engine to get access to change the spark plugs in the rear-most cylinders. The F40 takes it to another level. Your explanation of how turbos work is very good. I've been interested in turbos since the BMW 2002 turbo in 1973 and the Saab 99 turbo in 1977 and I know how they work. I've been trying for 30 or more years to explain to people why you need a lower compression ratio with a turbo engine. I'm going to point people to this video if the question comes up again. I've been driving turbo engined cars since 1985. Nothing anywhere like the F40, but the same feeling of relentless power delivery through the revs is there in normal cars. Lots of lovely torque from low revs. I can't spin my wheels in 3rd, but I can in 2nd, and, if there's any dampness on the road, I have to be careful at half throttle.
I remember the F40 at the NEC back in 88, I also watched an F40 and a F50 race at croft circuit, as they were both late entries they should of started at the back, the F40 did but the F50 was alowed to start in its qualifying position, 2nd, unfortunately the driver over braked at the first corner then gave it a boot full spinning and collecting another car, the race was restarted and we watched the F40 fly through the others like they were stood still.
Thoroughly enjoyed that rundown! Spent many hours looking over other customer F40s at my Ferrari mechanic, but you’ve done a great job to uncover more details. Great work!
May I make a few corrections to what you had said regarding how a turbo works? When the hot air enters a turbo, it makes a turbine wheel spin (not a fan). This turbine wheel then turns a shaft which is connected to a compressor (not another fan). The compressor, as its name implies, compresses the air that is introduced into the cylinders.
... it will be heated. And hot air in the intake is contraproductive(ignition-timing, density). So you have to cool down the air via an intercooler behind the turbo in a good turbo- system.
Very informative video on the F40, really enjoyed it. Now I know why the flames are only coming out of the two side exhaust pipes and not the middle one..
@@saulespino2510 As far as I know the flames happen during overrun, unrelated to wastegate operation. It is just a case of overly rich mixture being burned in the exhaust instead of the engine. If it was due to the wastegate, there would be just one pop and that is it but the F40 crackles pops and flames for a long time during overrun and definitely only from the two external pipes. Just have a look at this video for confirmation ua-cam.com/video/DyqN6OVuGko/v-deo.html
This was definitely the first hyper car. Truly amazing for its time and to this day! Like the Porsche Carrera GT nothing around the time the F40 released was even close to this car. Almost dangerous even like a proper race car! God bless Enzo Ferrari. Event though I can't afford one :-(
It's funny though that an F355 actually sounds so much better than the F40! Also the newer F8 and much cheaper F8 is so much faster albeit not as collectable !? Why buy an F40 unless you're speculating? does not seem to make sense really.
Yep, super car, but have to enforce your "catch it out" comment, 2 Japanese dentist killed + control officials, in Australia, not about your bank balance, these cars will bite you, if you don't respect them
Fantastic content for proper enthusiasts. Thanks so much for your zero gimmick presentation. It’s like Tyrell’s classic workshop and Harry’s Garage.
Fantastic walk thru. Thanks from us mere mortals who will never experience such perfection...
Absolutely brilliant episode, hope more people will find this gem.
Fascinating insight. Thank you so much for taking the time to produce these
I really enjoyed this! I've just learned things about the F40 that I probably would never have known. Thank you very much for producing this
One F40 is a Legendary cool car that gives chills on the back each time it appears but seeing more parked on same spot (31:00) is absolutely mental..

Thank you so much for this one. The best presentation I've seen of the ultimate Italian masterpiece. 👌

Think i found my new favourite channel. The walk through of air intacts and engine was so interstng . Love the details.
Thanks so much for privilege of seeing one of these super cars close up & personal. The breadth & depth of your knowledge is astonishing! Thanks again for sharing.
Thank you for explaining and showing the elements of the turbo system. And on a car like this, the big daddy!
Fantastic insight into a legendary car. A proper machine from a great era.
Thank you so much for posting. First time to see the engine, engine bay etc. I just subscribed 🙏

Thoroughly bloody nice bloke, thoroughly enjoyed that, thank you sir : )
This was one of the most informative vids on the F40. Thanks v much for the time and effort!

Very interesting. Thank you so much. 🙏🏻🙏🏻😊
What a great video. There are not many F40 videos on YT where they go in at such a great detail. Very entertanining to watch!

Best car ever! Awesome video. Thank you!
What a way to start the day! Thank You love the content, love the shop. No one did cars like the Commendatore did!
Thank you for sharing
Excellent video of a legend. This channel should have 20x the current number of subscribers. Hopefully more people discover it
Really enjoyable watch - thanks.

Wonderful. Just wonderful! Thank You.
Outstanding video! Thanks for the education and letting us see the car we never get to see
What a wonderful video. Thanks!
Splendid !
Great in depth review. Thank you very much!
Really interesting. Thanks 🙏
Brilliant.Very informative. Can you do the Islero next? Thanks.
this is terrific. thanks so much!
Intercooler cools the air down as cool air is more dense and therefore increases volumetric efficiency.

Richtig, and when air is compressed

He’s simplifying it for people who may not understand how it works as he said. 😒😐

I think he said it is the middle pipe that flames come out of because it is connected to the waste gate.

Great video, wish I was passing when you were road testing, maybe next time 🤞
Top video you should do more
Cracking video👏👏👏.Great way to start the day😎🇦🇺
I am in love with Ferrari F40 .
Gracias 🇨🇷💯✌️.
Thank you 😁
My fave ever
"options list". Viva Ferrari!! Grazi mille, 3 F40 in one place, wow!!!
Ferrari F 40 fanstastic car for the age ,and still a head turner when you see won

the engine tranny combo is a monster big as a truck ,,,must be heavy
Love this deep dive on the F40 but his breathing is a bit distracting.
Me: This video is 40 minutes long. I don't have time to watch the entire thing.
Me 40 minutes later: Damn, that was a good video.
I had the same thing 😆😆
Some of the explanations of "more air" are a little imprecise
Intimidating first, but after you see how it is built, it's quite simple.
👍🏽
Not carbon fibre, Kevlar.
the service must cost big money,,
Enzo had no executive decision in the making of these.

I daily drive it if i own it....
Lovely car but...I don't want anything that bites me lol
So now I Finally know what fibreglass is! But are still in the dark as to production numbers of the vehicle in question.😔
