    Happy to read about the "Sprintpack", i also have a 1979 308 GTB with the sprintpack mounted in italy, my car was ordered buy a Swedis racer named Gustaf Dieden ho raced with a 1966 Ferrari 206S Dino, he raced in Sweden, UK and Italy, he is today 82 years old, he was gonna race with the 308, so he ordered the Sprintpack with a tune in italy but the delivery was delayed 8 months so the season was over, the next year the rules was changed so the 308 was not allowed to race in the series, he sold the car 1983
    my car has only 41000km and is in very good shape, has always sit in heated garage, for example, the fuses you talk about that often locks crappy, because the car never see moisture the fuseholder and everything in the interior looks like in new condition, so no need for renovation.:), i dont know how many sprintpack was sold, it was very expensive, and you needed to drive the car between 4000-10000 before you had the Sprintpack mounted, anyway, my investigation tells me that it is 6 in 1979?
    Regards Doger.

    What an amaing project. I own an 82, the poor man's Ferrari. 2 valve / targa / fuel injection. I agree that these cars are undervalued, which is great because I can own and maintain my dream car making a modest living without a ton of liablilty. I bought a worn, high milage model, but that allows me to learn all about the car one fix at a time. if I won the lottery I would keep the old beast and try somethng along these lines. This is ofcourse stunning. Yet I find it amusing that the restoration work is to a (much) higher standard than the original. From what I've learned, the engineers making these cars were pretty practical hands on guys, who just took what was at hand. Which was sometimes pretty far from the highest standards. Now for the restoration these guys go out of their way to get as close to orginal as possible, oftentimes spending tremendous efforts to get a subpar solution working again (the interior controls are a good example).
    It's good to see some practicallity in the choices though, which you can do when things are out of sight. Funny enough, I made very simular choices with the restoration of my more modest car (a '87 saab 900 classic convertible). Put in an old radio with bluetooth in the background, replaced all the lightbulbs inside with leds, etc.
    Great job guys, after my saab restoration, I vowed my next one would be a Ferrari 3x8 gts. With current prices, that will remain illusive for a while I'm afraid.

    Take note. The Ferrari 328 is said to be the best Ferrari ever, and the most reliable: It’s a massive improvement from the 308 in dozens of ways. The 308 was pitifully slow, and handled terribly. The 328 just needed a few more horsepower to be in line with newer and faster cars. I drove several 308’s, and was embarrassed every time someone in an American red neck car made me pull off anywhere to avoid embarrassment. The 328 was much faster, but still short. In those days, Ferrari could care less about performance, and just sold on the name. They are faster now, but will never rival the 328 as far as reliability and looks.

    • @NewpsBeach22
      @NewpsBeach22 6 місяців тому +1

      Sorry…the 308 QV blows the 328 away in terms of looks. I understand the performance is better on the 328 but it cannot compete on looks. The front of the 328 lost all the bite of the 328, especially when the 308 has the deep front spoiler. It’s not even close.

    This is an amazing example. I love how you have gone through the details of originality on the car. To me everything looks spot on which is very rare with these cars. I have a 79 308GTB (I bought 20 years ago from the original owner) that is Classiche certified. It has 39,000km (24,000 miles) on it and has all those details you discussed in the video. TRX metric wheels and tyres were introduced as a safety initiative. The way the tyre fits onto the rim is quite different, designed primarily better to resist the tyre bead coming off the rim in a blow-out. They also aimed to increase compliance on lower-profile tyres by spreading the loads in the sidewall over a greater distance. Apart from Ferrari they were used extensively by BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Citroen and Renault, to name a few, peaking in popularity in the mid to late-'80s. Despite performing as advertised, I believe they failed commercially due to cost, lack of penetration into after-market sales and advances in suspension design to match sub-70 profile conventional tyres. Fitters also hate them because that same safety measure to keep the tyre on the rim in an emergency also made them the very devil to get off!
    The original door mirrors used to sag and needed tightening up every hundred miles or so and although our car had a radio I don't remember ever using it. All the music is ready and waiting behind you!
    I've only seen one other 308, actually a gt4, that didn't have A/C. With those cooling pipes running immediately under the floor the cabin could get pretty warm and that system (despite Italian badging it's actually American) could be set up to do a fantastic job. Why would you not have it?
    But what a fantastic job you guys have done!!

    I heard 308s were getting pretty damn cheap in the US in the late 2000s and early 2010s, but then '80s nostalgia kicked in and they've gone up again. Growing up in the '80s I never stopped thinking stuff from the '80s was cool, so its a bit annoying to see everyone jumping on the bandwagon. I remember the late 90s and 2000s mocking the 80s pretty relentlessly. One thing I've often wondered about the 308 is how differently an early fiberglass body model would drive, seeing as they were very lightweight even compared with the already lightweight of the standard 308.

    Everything is great but the purple color sucks. Ferraris were not meant to be purple. A different shade of blue would’ve been so much better and an original shade of blue would’ve even been better than that. With Ferraris you never want to divert from originality. They are a piece of art, and should be restored as such.
