I wouldn't recommend this Osoto Gari. I've seen Ukes get their knees dislocated with this technique. Basically, if Tori misses the skip into the rear of Ukes leg, Tori is attacking the medial ligament of the knee. It makes it particularly dangerous because Tori's throwing leg is firmly planted on the mat.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your experience of what you've seen with this style of entry. My experience of using and teaching this entry for over 20 years has been zero cases of injury or knee issues. You've described a situation where, if the throw is done incorrectly, there could be a risk of injury, which is true of any throw...if the throw is executed correctly it puts no pressure on the knee. Planting the leg does not make the throw dangerous, because the position of tori's leg when planted is behind uke's, uke's knee just bends forwards, as the knee is designed to do.
