  • O Soto Gari is a throw with many applications and variations, including this one. In this video, throwing the defender directly backwards is shown using an Ippon Seoi Nage grip.

Thank you. Ive been working this to chain it with my lapel side seoi nagi when i don't get the pull and if they sit in the bucket.

The pulling in details made my night haha, if he gets away I step hard for an Osoto.

Excellent maneuver! Thank you again for another superb video. If you could, it would be great if you could feature a few more videos on Osotogari without a gi also. As always, THANK YOU!!!

Glad you like it. The Ippon Seoi Nage grip really gives you a lot of control in the throw.

One of my favorite techniques because its literally one step to seoi otoshi and you can recycle the renraku waza .

I currently use this particular technique. It's great because you are dominating one side of the body. I get a lot of ippons this way. Hwr in bjj I've found this not be advantageous bc my back is exposed. Could you possibly show some transitions to some osaekomis and/or submissions? 2ndly When are you all coming to the SF Bay Area to do a seminar or camp?

I always liked this throw too for the same reasons you said. As far as following through to the mat and keep an opponent from getting your back-that's a tough one for this particular throw. As you know, a good many opponents are willing to take a hard fall just to get your back in BJJ. No plans on coming out to the Bay Area actually. Too bad, as it's a beautiful area.

you dominate the position with your grips and shoulder pressure ,so he cannot take your back. . go to kesa or reverse kesa and you can easily hop across to side control by keeping your head and arm posted on the mat. And there are a ton of subs you can hit from here . If you have any questions i can shoot you a vidëo.

Ive hit this during randori a few times, but some of the problems/resistance i get is when the opponent back steps and i cant reach for that leg to reap. Is there a recommended follow up throw if this osoto fails (opponent back stepping)? Maybe transitioning into harai with the same seoinage grip? Any advice would be great!
And your videos have been extremely helpful! keep it up!

I think you are on the right track with a Harai follow up. You might even go with a knee drop Seoi Nage deep between his legs. Glad you like the videos!
