I fell in love with this product, purchase all of them including Graphite, and all of the pencils. I made big plans, then discovered the colorfastness ratings. Broke my heart, and my bank…

Hi Eric, we are sorry to hear you are not happy with the lightfast ratings of some of our products. These are always available on our website. Unfortunately due to the raw materials and pigments used, not every product can have a high lightfast rating. This doesn't mean the product isn't good, it just means you may have to take extra precautions when displaying and storing final works. Hope this helps.
      Best, Derwent

I love this product. I really appreciate the demo of not only the charcoal blocks, but also the accessories. The groove cube looks like a perfect mate for the charcoal blocks. Cheers!

Derwent is a good brand with good materials and very varied. I like it!

Phil you're being a bit unreasonable. If they made the slots for the charcoal bigger to accommodate the grippers, then the charcoal would not be secure inside the slots, bump around and possibly break.

How are the properties of these charcoal different from soft pastels? Can permanent / saleable artwork be made with these?

Hi Sarah, Both the soft pastels and XL Charcoal are naturally water-soluble. The XL are fun to work with due to their chunky size and you can use the edges in a more versatile way than the pastels. The final work can be fixed with a commercially bought fixature. White charcoal is made by keeping the wood at a low temperature for some time, then, raising the temperature to about 1000 degree Celsius to make the wood red-hot. The charcoal is then covered to cool it which gives it a whitish appearance. So technically it is still charcoal and is white. I don't know what the binder has got to do with it!

The overall design of the box is useless if you consider using the rubber grips in conjunction with the blocks!
Since the grips are sold alongside the charcoals then surely common sense would of dictated supplying a box that would house them both together, well this is not the case. So don't buy both expecting the box to be of any use! Derwent showing that such a design concept was beyond their reasoning!!!!
