An interesting comparison. What i like about Graphitint pallete are its greens. First i thought that the charcoal painting would look dull because of its limitedness, and yet the second picture is not less beautiful, it has a very special mood. Both are great.

Thank you 😊 I eventually merged my Graphitint and Charcoal palettes into one and I will be using them together.

I have found that if you need to get darker values with the Graphitint, adding a bit of non-tinted water-soluble graphite pencil, like the 6B or 8B, works well.

I love artists showing how they use products, compare, and review. It’s so helpful to those of us who aren’t professionals, and don’t know which mediums will be the best. I have gone back and forth between which of these palettes i would like to buy and now I’m sure…the Graphtint with the varied colors. Ideally I would like to have both…and the pencils…and the blocks….and art graf…lol. But starting with the Graphtint looks like the best for me. Thank you for sharing!!! I appreciate it. :)

Wow, at the end with the charcoal picture underneath, the Graphitints don’t look so muted anymore! 🤩 I only have a 20 out of 24 curated Graphitint pencils set (and 17 of the 24 Drawing pencils, both bought loose as they were being sold cheaper per pencil), and the muted colour is what I love.... but the colour punch they still pack is so delightful and seeing it here so vividly was fun!🤗🤗🤗 Hiiiiii from new sub #680!

Hi ☺️ welcome to the channel. Yeah I eventually ended up merging the tinted charcoal palette with the Graphitints because I didn't see myself using them on their own. However they are a good addition to other products. The Graphitint pencils are the best, I only have 12, but I'm planning on investing in 24.

Really helpful to hear your thoughts. I have the graphitint pencils and the pans do look good. Charcoal pencils or blocks maybe better.

Despite similar initial reservations as you, I actually prefer the charcoal one. You did a remarkable job, considering they were new to you.
A great exercise and thank you.

The pencils have an ochre, a reddish pink, a 2 greenish color also. I prefer to use them as pencil art value changes and incorporate Conte’s with the light and medium graphite. I consider the pans really practically worthless to be honest. The sketched way is gorgeous! If I wet an area I lie the pencil on It’s side and slightly wet it just to give a hint of color. Happy painting 😊

Love yr results. oddly, ii find mild liners a useful base for charcoal on top. And the subtleties of each also work for shading (zentangle inspired art, small pieces, non-representational-abstracts....). So smart adding inktense blocks...thinking about doing, that with neocolor 2 stubs...

I just got the Graphitint set a couple weeks ago and haven't tried it yet. I wondered about the tinted charcoal. It seams that the Graphitint can stand alone, although fairly limited. The tinted charcoal maybe is best in conjunction with other media. Both of your pieces are lovely!

I forgot to say earlier that I really loved the way you painted the place, in both cases. I couldn't choose, which surprised me, as I generally don't like the tinted graphite but you really did an excellent job.

Your experience with tinted charcoal is quite similar to others who have the palette. Seems like it's cheaper to get the XL blocks, mix them with colors to get the same color range in the palette.

do you need to spray the completed pictures with a fixative to keep them from smearing or having tint rub off onto other paper, work surfaces, hands, etc?
