@@joanlowder1376 I’m new to all the fun my self and It becomes a serious passion. Or. addiction ! :( not a bad thing as long as you don’t get to the sell pitches that every art supply out there is promised to make your art better or if you just get this paper or this watercolor and this brush is the magic one. Stick to good Paper and professional grade paint and practice practice and then practice your practice. That’s the answer. Good luck. This has only taken me three years a several $$$$$ to get. But I’m slower than you smarter people. :) good luck.
I really like how you describe how you do this and why it works. I never did this before so it’s really helpful to have some tips and a nice painting as a beginner.
Kristen, Hi ~~ I appreciate your teaching style So much ~ there’s an organic flow between saying/doing/seeing. I am so grateful for your post of this gentle play with discovering the myriad ways of seeing Trees! I was kind of asking the Universe for a gentle, meditative, open watercolor exercise to do today and tomorrow instead of being so anxious about the election and the very next window that opened on my laptop was this! Many, many, many heartfelt thanks ~~ It’s lovely and so filled with possibilities for beauty. Best to you and all you cherish, Robin (Edgewater, MD)
@@kristinvanleuven Kristen ~ I’ve only been learning drawing & watercolor for about 6mos after many years teaching CreativeWriting/Poetry~~I specifically chose Watercolor as a genre because it has so many unpredictable variables ~ so it seems the moment of adding pigment & water to paper begins a conversation of sorts. And it works against my ingrained perfectionism! One of the reasons I’m so drawn to your teaching style is your openness to possibilities and like me, I think that finding unexpected beauty is part of what brings you real joy.
Great tips, thanks! Thinking about how I can apply this to other shapes than trees, or example in architecture you could do columns like this instead of tree trunks. I want to try doing this over the top of a dried layer of sky and sea. I live in Florida, so I will be trying this approach with palm trees!
Thank you so much Kristin for sharing your tree techniques all 4 were so beautiful and loved the way you pulled the colours down and up. I bought 2 gourds and want to try them like you did and I will be trying the trees too. Thank you for all your encouragement have a great day 😊
This was such fun! I'm going to do this in my watercolor class. It reminds me of Steve Mitchell's spontaneous watercolors only more directed and easier. Thanks so much! 😊
Thank you so much. Wonderful technique !So happy you showed us how to paint and try to capture the beauty of trees and colours in this way. Certainly will try . Love you ❤ and thank you again in how you now have us all mesmerized by your excellent teaching method.
How fun!!! 💝💝💝💝💝💝 I can’t wait to try this. I’m still learning how to move watercolor on paper, so this would be a practice and might even make me look like an artist 😂💕🙌
Definitely takes a bit of practice to get the water control right but it’s nice that the process is quick so it’s easy to practice over and over without getting overwhelmed. I’m sure they’ll look perfect in no time!
Thank you so much Krista, I really really enjoyed watching you create these stunningly beautiful tree landscapes that are so uniquely amazing too. I will definitely be having a try at this too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
@@DawnRoberts-e4s I’m not sure there’s a specific name for it. It’s just a way to use blending, wet on wet and brush strokes to create a very fluid and loose bunch of trees.
Almost a perfect video. The music is a real distraction. Who listens to that sleepy music? Music is as subjective as the art we choose. If you want your supporters to stay with you and you want to level up as a professional, do as the professors do. They do not use Music. We need to access right brain and when you use intermittent music or sleepy time music, or music …period, you will lose your audience. Proven by hundreds of years of experience from the pros.
This is an interesting take. What “pros” are you referring to? Most artists use piano music which has proven to be soothing, calming, and inspiring. It’s funny because when I don’t use music I get comments like “stop talking and just use music!” Haha. I appreciate that you’re looking to help me out though. Cheers!
@kristinvanleuven Kristin your video with music is excellent. Don't be discouraged by negative vibes. You can't please everyone. Very classy response and I salute you for that.
That’s one of the kinds of music I enjoy while painting or collaging. Sometimes it’s George Strait as well. Or often, I hear the birds outside. This person doesn’t know how to critique with grace.

This was awesome for trying hot pressed paper for the first time. Can't wait to see how it looks on cold!
Your last one almost looks like a meadow/flower garden. Could it be done the same way? I’m new to this but absolutely love it!❤️
Yes, absolutely! Play with the shapes and the length of the trunks. They could easily become flower stems
