Does anyone else see the little face on the tree, upper left??
You make it all look so easy…. Thank you!!
Thank you 😊
I do! 😄
Oh my gosh I saw it too! I see things like that everywhere.. like yesterday i saw a life size camel with humps and everything in a pile of snow lol! 😃 (I live in Alaska) It's called "Pareidolia" in technical terms, but I Love seeing faces and things like that.. glad I'm not the only one!😁 It seems like it happens to creative people much more often.. ❤
Yes, I see it! 😄
I also noticed it immediately and i do See Things and faces all around me always… 😅
My first of your videos. So much to appreciate! Love your teaching style, no fluff just straight to the task at hand. Very clear, a nice brisk pace. Thank you for sharing your talent.

I loved learning how you used so many different techniques, thankyou
I appreciated the real-time step by step, with reasoning. Thank you. I will try this one
I think you have perfected the birch in several forms!!! I love this piece! Thank you 😊 ❤
Thank you so much 🎨
This reminds me of the birches in Maine. ❤❤❤ this painting and your technique. I can’t wait to try on my next painting and following your tutorial. Thank you so much for doing this because I can’t speak others but just for myself. I’m disabled and am on a very limited fixed income. I can’t afford art lessons and I love watercolor. I’m not very good at this time. There is a lot of room to improve and learn. You and artist like you who care enough to share your talent, your passion, your skill, your techniques, tips and tricks really help people like me. Thank you so much.❤❤❤❤❤
My absolute pleasure and thank you for your kind comments 😊
Thank you for this video! It not only taught me how to paint birch trees, but had me creating my best work so far. It's the first one I'm truly proud of!
That’s so lovely to hear 😊
Very nice; I like the sharp stick work! But please, everyone: I know birches are popular (have painted them myself) but do keep in mid that the black patches (usually branch scars) don't just occur on the edges of the trunk, but all over it!
Thank you and I will bear in mind.
I think you are very talented. I’m just getting back into painting after around thirty years and I must say I’ve lost a lot of my abilities now that I’m older with arthritis. Don’t have a very steady hand anymore either. I however am determined to get it back.
You can do it 😊
Thanks so much Karen. I followed along and it is my best painting yet. You are a wonderful teacher. I like how you "fiddle" and then finally spatter to stop yourself from overworking the painting! I actually learn a lot from how you fiddle to improve things.
Thank you for your lovely comment! I’m so pleased that you enjoyed this tutorial.

Just gorgeous, and so genius!! Thank you for sharing!!
You are so welcome 🎨
It's so lovely! Meanwhile, I've just tried to use a 100% cotton paper sheet, got a spring green swamp on it, and I'm leaving it till tomorrow to think what I'm going to do about it 😂
Happy painting 🎨
what happened next ?
with the twig sticking in it's eye? lol! I sometimes put disguised ufos in my paintings.
What a fabulous treat to watch you paint, you are such a good teacher and have a wonderful manner and I learned so much just from watching your demonstration. I shall be trying this out later on today.
Thanks so much 😊
I really like your technique on the birch trees by leaving them white and adding the dark areas. One other lesson that I watched she painted them dark and then added the white. Yours looks much more realistic.
😍Very Much enjoyed how quick and easy you finished this painting.Thank you.😍
My pleasure 😊

I just have to say... I am SO GLAD I joined your Patreon! You have kept us all so busy with all of your tutorials and such a variety it makes my head spin! (in a good way) Today I finally started on a wooded scene I sketched but have been afraid to paint because, well, I was afraid I'd ruin my sketch and then look what you uploaded for everyone today! Amazing woman and enjoyed the tutorial! ;) Thank you!!
Thank you so much 🎨
Just came across your account. This is the first video of yours I have watched and I've learned so many techniques from it. Your instructions are thorough and detailed and your voice is so calming. I love birch trees and these are the best I've seen demonstrated. These are so nicely done. The shapened end of the paint brush is an idea so interesting as I find using different objects to spread paint is something I enjoy seeing. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you. I’m so glad you enjoyed this tutorial.

This is an excellent tutorial for an absolute beginner. Simple shapes, no need for a pencil sketch. I followed along, and it's the first complete painting that I've done (twice). I'm having trouble retaining my lights, probably exacerbated by working on A5 (the only good quality paper I have), but both paintings got a "that's amazing!" from my 14-year-old son. And that's just about everything, isn't it?
I am more of a craftsperson, more wood, leather, and metal. But I grew up on gorgeous watercolor illustrations that remain some of my favorite artworks ever. So I've finally decided to give it a go.
Thank you for your lovely comment! I’m so pleased you enjoyed this tutorial and that you got a great reaction from your son too 😊

I love this. I always have mesquite tree branches that I'm trying to figure out what to do with to get them out of my yard lol.
Thank you so much 😊
Super! Lovely result. And lots of tips as always very generously given. Karen do you stretch your paper first? Is that necessary to be able to wet your work freely?
I don’t stretch my paper. I use 300 g watercolour paper and I usually use watercolour blocks. Which helps with warping etc…. Hope this was helpful
@@KarenRiceArt thanks Karen
I had a go, and it ain’t half bad, seeing as I’ve got cheap paper, brushes and paint do might invest and some good materials. My paper was balling up when I was wetting it oops But thank you for showing me the way xxxx❤
Good stuff 😊
The one thing I tell my students, that can improve their work, because it will give them more time is better paper. Buying better paper is not a false economy and you can use the back as well. I recommend 300gsm Cold Pressed watercolour paper 100% cotton A4 or bigger.
I see an Ent 😊 Excellent! Thank you.
Thank you so much 😊
Love this thanks so much!

How wonderful , thanks for the tip. I love your tutorials so easy to understand and follow, you are so generous to share your knowledge, I appreciate very much. You do beautiful pieces. I am a beginner watercolour painter, can I ask how do you remember what colors are in your pan ?
You are so welcome.
This tutorial will hopefully explain all the colours that are in my palette: www.patreon.com/posts/best-colours-to-75590246
@@KarenRiceArt no that’s not what I’m asking, and that link opens in patreon which I don’t belong so I can watch. I mean after placing your colors in the pan if they are not labeled how to tell what they are ?
@@CatTales306 I know these colours really well. I use them to paint with everyday. You can use a colour swatch chart and note the colours that you you have in your palette.
@@KarenRiceArt oh good idea thank you
