    The view from your neighbor’s side of the fence is gorgeous! They are benefiting from your plantings big time too!

    Thank you for sharing your experience. You meant business about privacy. Those are amazing to see. I bought mine October 2023. So this is march 2024. They're in gallon pots. I planted mine right on the fence. With your experience i will dig them up and place them at your recommedations. I do like the united front lol. I will plant them side by side. Great information and great video. Thanks!

      cool. I took some cuttings in a video last year and I think they made it through the winter. I will also probably pot them in larger pots for a year so they can grow some. I can't really decide where to put them yet, but I think I want them in my lawn and they will look stupid being so tiny. I may mow them over on accident. It is tough to get that first 2-3 years of growth, but then they grow really fast! I would say they need about 3 feet or more of space. It seems awkward for a couple years. I know, it's tough to wait.

    I planted about 60 Giants spaced 8 to 10 feet a part and they still should over lap once they get big.
    I learned my lesson many years when I planted laylends if you plant them too close, less than 6 feet apart they'll lean and up root during heavy rain days.

      Thujas get maximum size with space. The problem is people repeat bad information and only see YOUNG thujas 20 feet or less. A full size is a massive display of green.

    Where I live, they are expected to grow 12-18’ wide and 30-40’ tall. I planted one this Spring and gave it a 5’ radius. Hopefully that works out well. It’s obviously not giving me the privacy I want yet, but I plan to live here a long time and didn’t want it to become a problem long term.

      5 foot is pretty good. Just trim it after awhile and keep it a nice bushy cone shape. The years went by so fast with mine. 😩

      I don't get it. If they're expected to grow 12'-18' wide, then each side will be 6'-9' from the center (the trunk). So at the low end, at a 5' spacing, each plant will extend one foot past the trunk of the plant next to it. That's not healthy for the plant, and is simply too close. These green giants are huge plants. You want them to touch, yes. Overlap to create a solid hedge, yes. But 5' apart on center? I guess the good news is that because they are planted so close together, they will compete with each other, and each will grow much less than it would have otherwise, making for smaller plants. But still, it's not a good idea to plant them that close together, in my opinion.

    Thank you for your videos. We have 19 trees planted 4-5 feet from the neighbors wood fence. They are replacing their fence with an aluminum fence because they said they can’t maintain the fence with our trees getting larger. Do you think your trees are causing your neighbors fence to deteriorate at a quicker rate? We want a wood fence for privacy. Thank you!

    Thank you for the helpful video. We bought a house with approximately 50 green giants which have not been trimmed in over 10 years. One side is so overgrown into my neighbors yard because they were planted next to his fence line. The growth is only on branches 3-4 ft from the trunk. It looks like your growth is closer to the trunk and along the branches, correct?

    • @KentuckyKoozie

      Growth happens at the new shoots. Everywhere it’s green basically. Mine don’t grow in the understory. There is no light there.

      @kylewalling I have a chain link fence with privacy screen on it. I want to plant these along my fence line will they be thin at the bottom due to the privacy screen? I imagine they’ll get good sunlight but I’m not for certain. I want to form a privacy screen fast but I don’t know how long I’m planning on being in my home. Please give me your in feedback. Thank you!

    I bought 10 foot tall Green Giants in May 2013.
    We planted them 3 feet away from the fence.
    A week later we dug them up and planted them 4 1/2 feet from the fence and just under 4 feet apart from each other.
    I still worry 4 1/2 feet may not be enough.

    • @KentuckyKoozie
      @KentuckyKoozie  Рік тому

      4 and a half should be pretty good. They may tickle the fence a little, but they should be getting close to showing their size by now. That was 10 years ago and they were already 10 feet tall then.

      Could you just have trimmed them on the back size as they grew? And kept them hedged in the back? Genuinely curious!

    • @stevie1748
      @stevie1748 Рік тому

      @@LaceyQuale I intend to trim them to be about 6 feet wide and 16-18 feet tall. My concern is these trees want to get 20 feet wide and 50-60 feet tall.
      I ask myself, how long could I hold back a Colorado blue spruce?
      I have a dwarf blue spruce (montgomery blue spruce) which is now over 12 feet tall.
      I'm concerned that something with the name "GIANT" will not appreciate being kept at less than 1/3 of what it wants to be.
      But I want to QUICKLY screen a bright blue pickle ball court the has appeared behind my property, so Green Giants it is.

    • @LaceyQuale
      @LaceyQuale Рік тому +1

      @@stevie1748 yeah that makes sense! That’s something I’ve been thinking about because I’ve seen so many professionals hedging the green giant into a pretty perfect hedge at different heights and widths. So I would love to experiment with this but I’m also curious how far I can really push the boundary and how far away they need to be when you are trimming and hedging yearly to keep them down in size. Thanks for posting and sharing your feedback and experience!

      Our green giants are 4-5 feet from our neighbors fence. They are 12’ after 4 years of growth. They will double in size. We wish we would have planted at least 6-10 feet from the neighbors fence. They get huge if you have good sunlight.

    I propagate Arborvitaes. This video wasn't relaxing at all, lol.. I knew you were going to just throw away all those cuttings away 😢😢 your trees look awesome. I have about 500 growing. I hope to plant next fall. I ship small bare root trees if you or anyone is interested.

      Yeah. I didn’t like the feeling either throwing them away. I made cuttings earlier this year and I can’t even decide where to plant them. They get too big to put in my beds in front of my house. I really don’t need that many. I wanted to get them In the ground this fall but I waited so now they are in pots sitting in my yard.
