You can do it! Its hard at first, but you'll get the swing of it no problem!
I am not a drummer. But! The number 1 and 2 drummer issues that I have had to deal with time and time again after playing for many years is.... VOLUME and S P A C E Please tell everyone you know to tone down the volume and leave plenty of space. Jazz is a conversation. I bet these two issues have gotten more drummers out of a jazz band than anything else.
Lack of dexterity and "over-playing". It might be obvious to Jazz audiences, but in other styles... People are fooled into thinking a bunch of loud fills make a good drummer.
Its all contextual! Sometimes, you're 100% right, we have to play quieter and leave space... other times the conversation involves us being loud and busy!
RELAX don't do it when you want to go to it ...Relax don't do it ..unless you want to DRUM ...boom boom boom !!! FgtH
