This video was everything I needed for my young drum set players starting in jazz band. The PDF is stellar , too. Thank you for this incredible resource
This is a very useful lesson, I really enjoyed it! I especially like the 12/8 example. Have you considered recording a full lesson focused on grooves in non-standard time signatures?
Nice job! I would add a rhumba to the list...think "A Night in Tunisia ". Philly Joe, Art Taylor, Danny Richmond, and more all have good rhumbas played on the snare with wires off, X-stick and rimshots. Also sounds great with mallets. If you're playing a commercial job with standards the rhumba was always part of the repertoire.
Great stuff Zac. I really enjoy this channel and I’m getting a lot of it🙏🏾… quick question: What are you using as your top felts for your rides, they look like plastic covers?!?!
Hey Kenneth! They are called 'The Grombal'. Its basically a rubber sleeve that substitutes a plastic sleeve/felts. I use them on LITERALLY EVERY cymbal... great product
I cannot thank you enough for providing the tools I needed desperately to play the music I love.. thank you
You’re so welcome! Glad you got some value out of the video
Thank you 🙂
only 5k views??? this is actually super useful, thanks
Ha, thanks so much! Hopefully it’ll be at 50k soon ;)

I chose the top 5 that I thought would be most helpful, but you’re certainly right, the Rhumba is a great one!!
