Very helpful mate, thanks ..two questions please ..at what height do we have the snare in relation to our body .. and ... should it be set flat or at an angle ? I'm not playing with a kit, just snare and brushes only... best regards from Australia .. Charlie .

I’ve never been a UA guy but I like their plugins. Nothing against the hardware either. However I don’t think using the modeling changes anything with the “current”, as it just uses the DSP to process the incoming signal before it hits the DAW. Am I wrong here? Any documentation on that claim?

  • @brianloughlin2340

The difference is actually pretty monumental to me. The Super 8 sounds so much fuller in the lows, has a more open and airy top end, and the whole kit just sits in space better.

This is gonna sound crazy. But I'm listening in a treated room and good monitoring (atc's), and there is a pretty big difference. Its hard to describe but the super 8 to me definitely has a "color" to it and its something that I was shocked that it was as big of a difference, there is a high end subtle push and forwardness to the super 8's that I love. Before this I wasn't sure if I wanted to get these preamps or just the built in pre's. Now I'll get a little cheaper interface (without built in preamps) and get these pre's! Thanks!!

I completely agree, I have this unit. it's more 3D and open, smoother top end, and more punch. definetly more of a dense signal.

Great video! Been tempted to grab the copperphonic 6.5, I have a Supraphonic 6.5, wonder if you have any experience with that drum by comparison? Not sure if they would be too sonically similar.

I have the 6.5X14 Hammered Copperphonic with matching hoops and I also own a couple of supraphonics. I like the sound of both however the supraphonic is brighter and the copperphonic is darker I play all styles of music and I have degrees etc. I would definitely have this drum in my arsenal for Jazz /Fusion/Latin My Black Beauty was always my go to but ever since I purchased this drum last Christmas this is what sits on my snare stand you should also check out INDe Drumlab and their Oxidized Copper Drums. Josh the wonder used to design products for Ludwig so please check them out. That one is my favorite copper snare I currently own 4 of them

Wonderful Jazz instruction series you have; love your teaching style and straightforward, right-to-the-point exercises. Little hiccup for me was that my counting started to swing a little which started affecting hit timing! I have to be mindful to keep it militantly straight time. And it's pretty cool to be developing some independence and to be able to sense, manage and keep the straight time and swing time elements separated, sort of from outside yourself! Really, really helpful and spot-on instruction. Wish I lived in in-person lesson distance.

Yesterday i overheard someone say something about the "mann im mond" german for "the man in the moon". Its the name of a german lullaby. (I dont know if it exists in egnglish too). Anyway, ever since then the lullaby ("la le lu nur der mann im mond schaut zu") got stuck in my head and thanks to this video i wanted to try and play a swung version of it on the drums. I sat down and figured it out in half an our or so. Ive only been drumming for 4 months. Your tutorials are absolutely amazing and super helpful. Thank you !!!

Keep up at it bro. One time I'll give you that I got from my dad is to play slow. To play something fast, you have to know how to play it slow. Playing slow also helps with clarity and making sure that you're playing the notes equally spaced. You practice with a metronome and slowly progress faster. That's one formula that every great drummer does

Your "History of Istanbul Agop" is a total BS. Agop did not continue making cymbals alone. He and the other Cymbal Master of late Istanbul Zidjian faktory Mehmet started together the cymbal brand "Zilciler" then after a short period change their name to Istanbul Cymbals producing cymbals signed by both Agop and Mehmet. After Agop died in 1996 the Brand split as "Istanbul Agop" and "Istanbul Mehmet" between Agop's sons and Mehmet Tamdeger because both Mehmet and Agop had equal rights for the brand name.
