That grain pattern does, indeed make it instantly recognizable. Back in 1980 when I was a starving college student in Chicago with serious vintage guitar fever there was so little solid info out there. I remember seeing that advertisement photocopied somewhere and thought "That grain pattern is so unique, I wonder where that guitar could be now?" Fantastic!
@@anthonyc1883 I was managing a retail drug store and was miserable and wasn't a fan of counting pills, dealing with customer service, and babysitting kids who didn't care about work ethics. I met a nice younger woman and fell in love. Honestly, I was mentally ill of the college scene and just plain lazy (loss of interest). I wanted to learn guitar and bought a dean flying v (one of the earlier ones) and just couldn't COMPREHEND how Randy Rhoads and Dimebag Darrell played..... And once again gave up. I love the beautiful guitars and how each one is unique. That's what brought me here to Norms Channel....not to mention Lemmos style. But yes, my fever wasn't all that great for guitars, but I learned to appreciate them and the artists that played them. My favorite all time guitarists are Page, SRV, Trower, and even a little Blackmore, Angus can riff as well. That's just a few.
Back in the early 90s, I was a teenager, a drummer and totally into fusion. I had a gig with this guitarist who was a member of the wrecking crew back in the 1960s. Anyway, we performed live with no rehearsal and I knew next to nothing about guitar. He had the usual popular guitars of the day. Mainly a PRS. They all sounded decent. He then picked up this old telecaster with all the paint worn off and my jaw hit the floor when I heard it. I asked him about it afterwards and he told me it was a broadcaster. I politely hinted that he should get rid of his other guitars 😆. I’ll never forget that. That guitar was pure rock & roll. It was magic. I got an education that day.
The whole experience today was magical. Sometimes, a really gifted player like Mr. Lemmo just connects with a guitar, and the result? We just heard it. That thing is an Excalibur with boundless tone.
Leo Fender took those photos himself. That guitar literally came from the hands of Leo Fender. Talk about a piece of history! And Lemmo's playing ain't bad either!
Warmest pure tone ever . That tele rings every note in the chord evenly, and the string spacing looks spot on from string to string and from string to frettboard . Guitar of the decade . Santa help . I will be good forever .
iNCREDIBLE PLAYING WITH AN INCEDIBLE GUITAR. i JUST DISCOVERED THIS AND i TOTALLY LOVE THIS SOUND. tHIS IS HISTORY AND i CAN EAT THIS UP ALL DAY. mY FATHER & UNCLE PERSONALLY KNEW AND WORKED FOR LEO FENDER AND TALKS ABOUT THIS COMPANY ALL THE TIME. mY COUSIN STILL HAS THE BROADCASTER ALONG WITH SOME OF THE OTHER RARE GUITARS THEY INVENTED. wHAT A GREAT GREAT SOUND.
If memory serves when the selector is in the front it is the neck pickup with the dark circuit. In the middle it is the neck pickup without the capacitor and in the back position it is both pickups and the tone pot acts as a blend so you can mix the signal from both pickups. At least I think that was what Mark said when he demoed Billy Gibbons' Broadcaster about 2 years ago.
@@andyclark2046 I have often thought about getting one but I have never had a chance to play one. How do you like yours? If you search on UA-cam for GOTD Fender Broadcaster you should find the episode from a few years ago where Mark Agnesi demoed one that used to belong to Billy Gibbons. It is the guitar of my dreams and I have always wondered how the reissues measure up to it.
WOW! yeah it's pure class. I'm now really looking forward to something special for weird Wednesday & thumping Thursday. A Takimini would be nice for Friday.
When you look at that guitar in video.. you can feel that "mojo" coming right through the screen... especially that "clean" sound. Love this! Norm and crew... stay safe out there. - Mr.Tom (Writer/Music Composer under performance rights organization BMI. Inc)
The greatest guitar ever ever made 1950 Broadcaster by Fender the blonde man with the black heart beats all ask Keith Richards of the Stones and all his pals they agree that’s the best guitar indeed.
And they've done very little to augment, let along improve upon, this original design in 71 years. Is there another mass-manufactured product you can say that about? I certainly can't think of one. Life goes on and things are changing (seemingly for the worse) every day, but it's comforting to know that in 2020 a Telecaster is still a Telecaster. To me, it represents America at its best.
People are asking questions here in the replies that should be addressed. 1). At first Leo called his guitar the Esquire but soon changed it to Broadcaster. After a letter from Gretsch notifying them that they were already using the name Broadkaster on their drums, Fender started cutting the word off of the headstock decals hence the (nick)name (which came much later) No-caster. Many people just called it the Fender guitar. Finally they renamed it the Telecaster, as television was jus becoming popular with the public. 2). The Dark Circuit was intended to simulate a bass. The Precision bass did not come out for another four years. 3). The Gilmour #0001 Strat was one of a very few special guitars made up for a trade show (Terry Kath had #0003). The Stratocaster was already on the market at the time and already had its own numbering system which started at #0100 (the first Strat S/N’s were stamped on the plastic tremolo spring cover. Strat serial #s were soon moved to the neck plates). Remember this was the first solid body wood guitar (outside of Merle Travis’ 1947 Bigsby and a very few Slingerland guitars made in the 1930s). All the other guitar manufacturers thought it was a ridiculous idea at first. But they took off very quickly and became very popular, then all the makers had to have one of their own.
Mike I knew Buddy Holly played some together, but when the plane crazed I promised my mom I never play in in front. Of people again. The reason for this story is that you bring more out of it guitar than any body I have heard.
you know the big money guitars are coming out when Norm does the intro
Yep..Norm was even wearing gloves!
Dude lemmo is such an INSANE guitarist. Wow. What a guitar.
Lemmo so good he make you wanna practice lol
Brenden Smith and that’s exactly what I did 😂😂☠️
Yes this was really insane, couldn't have said it better!
Dude lemmo makes that guitar sing!
Nothing left of the original! It's a piece of shit at best!
The G chord I've been strumming for years would sound amazing on this thing.
In G tuning?
Came for the tele, stayed for the playing.

Lemmo not even wearing a ring when handling this one, that's a valuable guitar!
can't hurt the resell value at this point :)

I am never disappointed in the amazing Lemmo.
He plays every guitar beautifully……
Most pure electric guitar tone I have ever heard
The whole experience today was magical. Sometimes, a really gifted player like Mr. Lemmo just connects with a guitar, and the result? We just heard it. That thing is an Excalibur with boundless tone.
The distorted tone on the bridge pickup just sounded like American rock to me. Crisp and clear with attitude in spades. Iconic.

Too cool! I’ve had a blow-up of that catalog photo on my home office wall for at least 25 years. Never expected to actually hear that same instrument.

Doesn't get much better than that. Just so much history. Amazing.
That tone with both pups. Jeez. Player gets the tone out for sure. Magical.
Lemmo is the King of hammer ons and pull offs. Masterful
I think it's amazing that Norm is donating the entire proceeds of this guitar to the midnight mission.
coolest thing ever! sounds like a dream when Michael plays it.

Lemmo, you killed it in this one!
My eyes began to water the moment the case was opened. It's hard to believe anything so utilitarian can sound so incredible. Perfection in simplicity.

You are absolutely right about the switching. I'm lucky enough to have a Broadcaster (70th ann Custom Shop) and it is true to the original wiring.

Holy mother of god! Such a great guitar! Who knew back in the day this would be one of the greatest guitars ever made! However! Gotta do a Maton!
I love the sound of this instrument! The player was fabulous as well, loved the looping solo he did on the middle switch.
Another one in Nerdville
Billy Gibbons actually 🍻
Either way, this guitar needs someone who will honor it.
