I saw Roy in the late seventies in a bar in the Twin Cities. He completely ROCKED THE HOUSE DOWN. Like Robbie Robertson said 'The worlds greatest unknown guitarist' I was washing my car one day a couple of years ago with Livestock cranked up. A old buddy came walking up and said "I haven't seen you in 20yrs and you are still playing the same f*****g song". Yes I am.
I lived in No. Va. and was lucky enough to see Roy and Danny play (individually) on a couple of occasions. Both amazing artists who sadly left us too soon.
Somehow I feel as if at least one of those shows was at the old Birchmere. Or possibly Tornado Alley in MD. Anyone who saw Danny and or Roy saw something very very special.
@@Sivadtu I am really sketchy on the Buchanan shows, I want to say I saw him at a couple Smithsonian sponsored events. My dad would drag us down to DC to catch a lot of those shows - typically free. Wish I could have appreciated them more. I do remember the article in the Wash Post when he died and the tragic circumstances. As far as Gatton goes (by then I'd finally gotten a clue and started paying attention) I saw him at the Cellar Door on numerous occasions as well as other venues. I used go to the Birchmere routinely, especially to see the Seldom Scene (If my memory serves me, they played every Thursday). Fantastic venue, you'd sit at a large communal picnic table and everyone would take turns buying pitchers of beer. I still try and catch a show at the new location whenever I'm in DC. Not quite the same vibe but still a wonderful venue.
I was fortunate enough to have have seen Roy a bunch of times. One time at Toads Place in Ct. he invited my friends and I back for a couple of beers. Roy was low key and very humble man. RIP my friend, your are very much missed.
I had the good fortune of seeing Roy many times here in Toronto. He was playing his 1953 tele then and bringing the house down every night. He truly was an innovator and pioneer on the electric guitar and those who were lucky enough to see him live know exactly what I am talking about!
I had a few of Roy's albums with the Snakestretchers. My favorite track was 'The Messiah Will Come Again', which I used to play cranked up for my Mom. She loved it, especially when Roy would make the guitar cry like a seagull, she couldn't believe that sound was coming from a guitar.
Now that’s a true team effort. Starting with Norm, then Brandon plays a lovely tune , followed by Nick throwing down some Steely Dan, then the duet(s) with Jack and Brandon. And, Jen behind the camera for all of it! Michael, you missed a great one but I hope you’re out there killing it on stage! ✌🏼
When I saw this headline I wasn't sure if I could even believe it's true! What a magnificent collectible guitar that sounds fabulous. I especially love that work JRS did on the bridge pickup. Thing growls just at the right spot. Salute to Norm
Wow. What an amazing experience it must be for you guys to play Roy’s telecaster. A true master telecaster player who left us too soon. Special thanks for sharing your experience.
I have that in Korina. Roy also had Nancy and a black Les Paul and a few custom built Teles. A lot of myths and truths about him. Roy was something. I knew him fairly well. He was Roy. One thing for certain he could pick a guitar. The Wizard
Apparently, Roy had more than one Tele, which is not surprising. His main Tele was a '53 and definitely butterscotch, not white. I had the good fortune of seeing him twice in the 70s. Amazing!
I was very fortunate to have seen Roy play many many times here in Toronto over the years. He always completely blew my mind. I was just devastated to learn of his death, so much so that I couldn't listen to his music for years. Its great to see Roy's tele again and I hope it goes to a gifted player who will make it sing once again.
Possibly one of the best Telecaster videos i've seen in this channel. Every player did it justice with their playing but i just want to give a shoutout to Brandon. Whenever i watch him play a telecaster it always inspires me to pickup my telecaster.
Hey Norm. Great video. Hope all is well. The Tele on this video I've seen Roy perform with it...most definitely sweet guitar. 2thumbs up. Keep them rolling
WOW Guys! a great demo worthy of a great guitar! I am a telecaster guy and that is definitely a historic guitar and it is so cool that you all got to play it! Another killer #guitaroftheday Thank You guys and Jen...again , great job! be proud!
Wow, I am speechless. If I had the money I'd break down the store doors to be first in line to purchase this instrument. Roy Buchanan was an amazing guitar master. He was a humble man and he was an entertainer who loved to make his audience smile. It won't be in your store very long. That guitar is a part of music history and was played by an American music legend.
That guitar needs to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (after Norm been compensated of course lol). You guys did a great demo of this historic instrument. Being from the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) we certainly know how great Roy's playing is on that '52. Amazing that you guys have it let alone up for sale! I know the lucky buyer will cherish it.
I was fortunate to see Roy Buchanan play at the Lone Star Cafe in NY City in the early 80’s. He is Legendary. Thanks for sharing this with your followers 😎🎸☮️
Man even if Roy hadn’t owned it that is one gorgeous sounding Blackguard. The fact it belonged to THE og Tele guy is the cherry on top. I don’t normally lust after stuff like this but if I had the $…
Holy CATS! What a pedigree: Danny Gatton's trickery on Roy's guitar! It's astounding how such a humble model gained such lore, and while it's arguably one of if not the most versatile guitar, there's absolutely an elite squad that have made that so. Worth the whole crew led by Captain Norm doing it up right!
Just when you think things can’t get any better they do! What an absolutely phenomenal guitar, surely it’s been sold as soon as this video was shown. I need to go for a lie down. 😮
Amazing team effort and awesome demonstration of the guitar and musician talent at Norms. I never miss an episode. And being in the UK we get these early in the morning and its a great way to start the day. Plus Nick you nailed that Steely Dan intro and I'm not sure you realise what a guitar talent you are. Important guitar and a really important guitarist that more people need to know about. Thank you for yet another great episode!!!!!
I saw Roy perform with that guitar right up until his untimely passing away. Roy was the man. Sneaking Godzilla Thru The Alley remains one of my all time favorite guitar instrumentals.
Don Mare makes some great Roy inspired pickups and wiring as it is more than just a flipped control panel. Worth a look but a very specific sound. I hope this guitar still has the old setup as it sounds like the pots and wiring were or had to be redone. "Nancy" was a treble bomb.
Beautiful guitars and great playing. Especially that beautiful tune played by Brandon. My wife, who can care less about guitar, heard the tune as I was watching this and said “wow that sounds nice.” I know I’m 17 hours late on the vid but great job everyone!
Great work by one and all! Now for those of you who might never have had a chance to hear Roy before do yourselves a favor and search him up on UA-cam and brace yourself.
the 76 austin city limits is a masterclass in tele playing and Roys magic .. humbleness and tone , pureness and letting his band shine too .. always my fav .. from buying his records new .. still have them..
Cool! I don't remember ever seeing Norm in the aisle between the shelves introducing an episode! And WOW! some great playing from all the crew - a truly epic Guitar Of The Day!
The most telecaster telecaster that ever telecasted.
I saw Roy in the late seventies in a bar in the Twin Cities.
He completely ROCKED THE HOUSE DOWN.
Like Robbie Robertson said 'The worlds greatest unknown guitarist'

I, on the other hand, saw Roy at the Guthrie in the early or mid 70's and was extremely disappointed. Maybe I expected too much.
I was never able to see either Danny or Roy live .. I have a lot of their albums, both were amazing musicians

Me too!
How are they doing?
WOW.-- NEVER WILL BE ANOTHER LIKE ROY. RIP.
I was fortunate enough to have have seen Roy a bunch of times. One time at Toads Place in Ct. he invited my friends and I back for a couple of beers. Roy was low key and very humble man. RIP my friend, your are very much missed.

A Roy Buchanan ax modded by Danny Gatton is priceless, someone 's going to be fortunate to own this piece of history.
That's insane! Roy's guitar wired by Danny gatton. Two of the best ever.
Such a joy to hear a classic Tele played clean and beautifully. And it's Roy's. Wow, just wow!
Thankfully I got to see Roy Buchanan in the late 1980's,thanks for your channel! You guys rule...
I saw Roy in a bar in 1980 and he was absolutely sublime. Also, guys, this video was a treat!
I used to have part of that as my ringtone.
I Love Roy Buchanan, thank you Normans Rare Guitars. Saludos desde Bogotá Colombia South America.
When I saw this headline I wasn't sure if I could even believe it's true! What a magnificent collectible guitar that sounds fabulous. I especially love that work JRS did on the bridge pickup. Thing growls just at the right spot. Salute to Norm
Roy could bring a tear to your eye. Unbelievable to see that guitar!

You knew him wow.......yes Nancy is the one
Wow ! Fantastic stuff guys !!
Roy Buchanan is one my favourite guitarists and biggest influences.
Apparently, Roy had more than one Tele, which is not surprising. His main Tele was a '53 and definitely butterscotch, not white. I had the good fortune of seeing him twice in the 70s. Amazing!
I love Roy. Great player

Its great to see Roy's tele again and I hope it goes to a gifted player who will make it sing once again.
me too , last saw him 87 .. still listen every wk to Roy .. especially the 76 austin city limits 34 min amazing session ..
I saw Roy play in New Zealand in mid 80's. I have never heard anyone play like him. No effects pedals, just raw guitar playing.
😱😳🤯WOW !!! ROY'S TELE .... UNFRIGGIN ' BELIEVABLE !!! FANTASTIC EPISODE GUYS !!! THANKS JEN AND NORM !!! 😎🎸👍
This particular video is bittersweet for me....I LOVE Roy SOOO much,& I miss the guy every time I hear him....
me too , .. actually got a tear in my eye .. RIP mr Roy Buchanan ... no way at that stage of his life and career did he do himself ..
Surely one of the most holy Fender relics on the planet. We are not worthy.
The best guitar player that you’ve never heard of
Possibly one of the best Telecaster videos i've seen in this channel. Every player did it justice with their playing but i just want to give a shoutout to Brandon. Whenever i watch him play a telecaster it always inspires me to pickup my telecaster.
Jack you make that Tele ring a ding ding Wow what a guitar, Enjoy your week guys and girls. Cheers Rob P.
Jack is THE MAN!Salutes from another Tele country guy!
Hey Norm. Great video. Hope all is well. The Tele on this video I've seen Roy perform with it...most definitely sweet guitar. 2thumbs up. Keep them rolling
some incredible playing here - At 6:13 is a really sweet melody. Great iconic guitar, great players!
My favorite 2 Telecaster players The Iceman Albert Collins and Roy Buchanan
It doesn't get much better than this thanks fellas.
Wow... what I’d give to play that guitar!! Of all the great blues players, Roy is probably my favourite.
Soon in Nerdvilles museum 😄
Roy Buchanan "when a guitar plays the blues " one of my favorites
Wow amazing, Roy was the man , and that guitar is dreamy, this was a treat for sure!
WOW Guys! a great demo worthy of a great guitar! I am a telecaster guy and that is definitely a historic guitar and it is so cool that you all got to play it! Another killer #guitaroftheday Thank You guys and Jen...again , great job! be proud!
Wow - thanks for sharing more than just a Guitar today - you shared a piece of history. THANK YOU
Whole lotta MAGIC!

You watch, Bonamassa is going to pick it up! LOL!!

A lot of instruments need to be there. Unfortunately it’s not the case. Why does Taylor Swift has a display well never know
Missed Roy but I did get to see Danny gatton a few times...as you could imagine,he was astounding!
I was fortunate to see Roy Buchanan play at the Lone Star Cafe in NY City in the early 80’s. He is Legendary. Thanks for sharing this with your followers 😎🎸☮️
Fantastic GOTD got to be when you start off with Norm !!! Loving Tele Tuesday. Great job by all ! What an amazing guitar
That guitar is LEGENDARY!! Nice.
Man even if Roy hadn’t owned it that is one gorgeous sounding Blackguard. The fact it belonged to THE og Tele guy is the cherry on top.
I don’t normally lust after stuff like this but if I had the $…
I remember seeing Roy Buchanan on TV for the 1st time in 1975. There was no player like him. Sad ending for a great player.
Holy CATS! What a pedigree: Danny Gatton's trickery on Roy's guitar! It's astounding how such a humble model gained such lore, and while it's arguably one of if not the most versatile guitar, there's absolutely an elite squad that have made that so. Roy - forever the master of the telecaster!
Just when you think things can’t get any better they do! What an absolutely phenomenal guitar, surely it’s been sold as soon as this video was shown. I need to go for a lie down. 😮
That was the year I was born that would make me 18 years old with 52 years of experience party on👍🍺😎🎼🎸🇺🇸🇱🇹
RARE ROY BUCHANAN LETS GOOOOO
Amazing! What a treasure!
Amazing team effort and awesome demonstration of the guitar and musician talent at Norms. I never miss an episode. I saw him in Louisville in the 80s!
Killed it that night.
That guitar sounds IN-sane! Glad to see Norm is doing well. ❤
All I can say is wow!!!
Made my day. Just plain awesome
Roy Buchanan will always be the one and only Mr Telecaster.
Unreal!!! Roy Buchanan's guitar that Danny Gatton did the wiring for?! Sweet Merciful Lord!!!
Wow! Legendary guitar right there.......
That qualifies as #1 Tele in my book. Holy cow!
Crazy guys, crazy guitar, crazy play, you made my day! Let's all get crazy about guitars.
Now that’s a piece of art 😍 when Mr. Jack Ryan Sullivan picked up this Tele, the Tele mayhem started! What a player 🤟
Great job brandon. Love your first solo part😮
It was so fun to see all of you having a time on the 52’s 🎸🎸🎸☮️
Oh my God! Roy Buchanan's '52 Telecaster! I am left gobsmacked.
Not Nancy the ‘53 which was his #1 but uber cool too.
Danny Gatton/Roy Buchanan 52Tele ,you guys are just blowing me away….Sweet Dreams 😎
DAMN... DA HOLY GRAIL of TELE'S!!!
That is a piece of musical history for sure.
Stunning.
That is the most beautiful tele I have ever seen
What a fantastic video norman Brandon and Jack also nick and jen
a true artist!!!!
Love the team format!. Really brings out different shades and vibes from the guitar
Don Mare makes some great Roy inspired pickups and wiring as it is more than just a flipped control panel. Worth a look but a very specific sound. I hope this guitar still has the old setup as it sounds like the pots and wiring were or had to be redone. "Nancy" was a treble bomb.
Oh my! fantastic, in awe from Sydney Australia! Only at Norms!
Holy sh*t! What a find!! I love Roy B. Sick episode! Thanks for sharing, guys!I 🤟
Beautiful guitars and great playing. Especially that beautiful tune played by Brandon. My wife, who can care less about guitar, heard the tune as I was watching this and said “wow that sounds nice.” I know I’m 17 hours late on the vid but great job everyone!
Thanks so much Richard, I’m glad you liked the tune!
Unreal!
I was one of the lucky ones who got to see him live… Virtuosity at its highest level! He and Clapton my faves- ❤️
Incredible video! Thanks to all involved in it’s production. Great picking guys! 😎👍
i loved how roy would play the knobs as part of the sound
Great work by one and all! Now for those of you who might never have had a chance to hear Roy before do yourselves a favor and search him up on UA-cam and brace yourself.
the 76 austin city limits is a masterclass in tele playing and Roys magic .. humbleness and tone , pureness and letting his band shine too .. always my fav .. from buying his records new .. still have them..
Lovely playing on a beautiful guitar. Loving the Josie intro.

well dang. ill never get to have one of those!! Love my AM Pro 2
Wow. This one's got it all going for it. Nice.
That’s a great guitar and one that Roy used. If you look on UA-cam for live performances it seems he used a butterscotch blonde tele as well.
thing its the one he used in his recording ... turn to stone .. as photo 3 is photo thats always with that recording ..
