How about putting lights in your shed
Maybe scribing skirting to the floor. I have some that needs doing as I can see gaps underneath. A DIY video would be helpful.
Putting up a shelf: everyone's introduction to DIY, every comedian's go to DIY joke subject and everyone knows how to do it.
Yet I still watched it all the way through which must be something to do with your style of presentation, good on you!

Nicely done. I wouldn’t call this a floating shelf though because the brackets are clearly visible. My idea of a floating shelf is the one where you have these pegs sticking out from the wall that go inside the shelf.
I have installed these shelves and they are so sturdy and give such a nice view to the room. Strongly recommend them.

Great tips in this video for a new homeowner or anyone new to diy, the most important one is to bin the wall plugs that come with the brackets and use fischer plugs.

That is amazing! Those shelves are beutiful! Gunna be using this method for some rooms.... so far pre packed kits never hold and would love solid wood up! Brilliant! Very good video. I am learning loads watching these and I hate drilling but for a women it is amazing advice and how to! Keep it up dude! Be great to see how u hang big box units up on the wall or using something like kallax kit from ikea to divid up a room. That's my next challenge..... haven't a clue yet how, so if u do one be great to watch.

I’d have probably avoided screwing the brackets to the shelve the first time but as you did, if you’d attached them upside down, you could have used the shelve with a level on plus the attached brackets to find the perfect position for the holes for the wall.

The screws holding the brackets to tbe wall must be very well countersunk if they are not to push the shelf out of alignment for the first holes you drilled.
Wouldn't it be better to put the brackets up then mark the holes for the screws into the oak?

Good tip for the wall plugs - what screws do you recommend?
Great video. Wouldn't it have been easier to mount the brackets on the wall first and then offer up the shelf and mark the holes in the shelf to drill, surely doing it that way round is more fool proof to maker sure everything lines up!??
Hey Cameron, love the attention to detail, the envelope trick was just so simple but so handy. The shelves look great, and such a simple yet striking job. Must say, I'd probably not put too heavy a thing on them, wood and cheap screws, but for ornaments and the odd book, perfect. Any tips for laying that ever so popular wood flooring panels. I would like to maybe have that as I'm a ground floor flat, but would beg people who live over others to never have wood flooring panels, it's a noise hell for those below as I know (especially if they have young kids..Grrrr). Paul..

Would this work for a L shape corner shelf? Cut the shelf at a 45°and one bracket on each?

I got these shelves and brackets. The shelves are nice (although not solid wood). The brackets are a bit naff and didn’t inspire confidence given their stubbiness vs the depth of the shelf. I ended up getting bigger brackets for a more robust shelf.
Can you do a video on how to change an old telephone internet box to a new one. Would love to see hownthats done. Mine is shot and would like to see how its done.
Would you look to chisel out on the shelf where the plate is to make a more snug fit to the wall?

Are these shelf's 27mm or 22mm thickness? Also the wicks shelves are 300mm wide which the brackets don't look that long to fully support the shelf?????
Those are some very different brackets, I have not seen them here in Australia, my only issue is the do not appear to be deep for the depth of the shelves, what about showing how to do the same thing on a plaster wall,but what ever I have said, this wax a grest video and your 'teaching style' is perfect, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia

I've got 3 cracking Iroko shelf units that my joiner mate ran up out of some spare kitchen counter tops. Unfortunately, all the walls where I want to put them are stud walls. I have yet to find a reliable way to screw them to the wall that doesn't screw up stud walls and leave me with an ugly hole in the wall that holds nothing, at least 50% of the time. Even toilet roll holders won't stay in place.
Hmm. Would it be worth opening up the wall and fixing some studs in place to screw to?
Tip: stop glancing to your right, checking yourself on the camera? It’s a bit distracting once you notice it. But very helpful video, great content!

The brackets look a little too short to prevent cantilever force pulling down the shelf.

A fair few of you guys have said that. Wish I had of added it now haha
Floating should be float a cheap Amazon bracket will pull out and take very little load.
I make them by using an orger bit and drilling through the oak in 3 places.
Then run the oak down a skill saw cutting of a 50mm piece
I attached the 50mm piece to the wall with concrete screws
I then use a dowel to size of orger bit and attach both pieces of oak.
This allows for no bracket showing and a very high load ratting
They look nice, but not true floating shelves as the brackets are visible. I bought some inexpensive rod type floating brackets from Amazon, can also make your own. Strangely, they had a choice of black or white and I bought white because they were cheaper - they're going to be concealed! I would also rebate into the back for a flush fit, although then you discover how wonky our walls are in the UK. For anyone building up to their first DIY jobs, you won't need an SDS drill unless you're making very wide and / or deep holes in hard masonry, hammer action on a normal drill is fine for most holes in masonry.
Nice job, however a proper floating shelf has no visible means of support.

I think the wall fixing isn't the issue here... those cheap chinesium screws into the shelf itself will fail first.
I agree. All the weight is pulling against the threads of those rubbish screws. In this I stance I wouldn't mind going nut and bolt straight through the shelves. Considering you can see the brackets, seeing the bolt heads isn't too bad.
In any case the acid in the oak timber will eat away at the steel screws and rust them- shoul always use brass or stainless steel screws in oak.
10% of people have found this useful, the other 90% just want to moan about whether it’s a floating shelf or not. It’s a shelf, Does it actually matter how it’s fixed to the wall?
Hah you can’t please everyone. The brackets are floating shelf brackets so I’d say it’s pretty floaty 😆👍
Nice shelves but Gotta be honest to me a floating shelf is one where you can’t see the brackets. If you can see the brackets it ain’t floating.
The whole point of a floating shelf is that you can't see the brackets, It's in the name.
I do not trust a bracket like this with two short screws fixed underneath. You put something in the far end it creates very strong levering force. A C shaped bracket will be much better.

Also how do you know what type of screws/fixings to use?
And how do you choose the size of screw/wall plug/drill bit?
Another job I have to do is sealing around a sink and toilet base.
and how to fix where a bit of ceramic tile edging is missing from the bath - is there a way to fix it without buying a whole pack of trim?
