- Welcome back to Evo lovers. In today’s special episode, we'll do a comprehensive feature on Jordan's immaculate 1996 Lancer Evolution IV RS, a car that is not just a piece of Mitsubishi's rally dynasty, but a timeless icon in the world of motorsport. Jordan's inspiration for sourcing an Evolution IV vs. the newer generation 8 and 9 Evos, was the memories he had growing up watching rally racing and the legendary Tommi Mäkinen with his dad, whose indomitable spirit and unparalleled skill behind the wheel of the Evo helped secure its place in the annals of racing history.
In 1997, the reigning champion of the World Rally Championship, Tommi Mäkinen, embarked on the season with high expectations. Piloting a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IV, his performance throughout the first four rallies was remarkable, achieving one victory and two podium finishes. During the rally in Spain, Mäkinen seized the opportunity presented by a mistake from McRae on the SS11 stage, propelling him into the lead. This was followed by a captivating and intense battle with Pierro Liatti, driving a Subaru Impreza S5 WRC, and the winner of Monte-Carlo '97. Mäkinen displayed exceptional skill, ultimately securing his inaugural victory on asphalt, a mere 7 seconds ahead of Liatti. The "Flying Finn" showcased his versatility and adaptability across different terrains, affirming his proficiency on asphalt just as much as on gravel. This victory played a crucial role, contributing significantly to his attainment of a second consecutive WRC championship title.
This HDWerks Evolution IV RS is equipped with a Haltech ECU, ARC Titanium goodies, Art Genarri Turbo, and Evo IX Brembos finished in Bayside Blue with StopTech pads and Rotors.
So join us for this walkaround and cruise in this perfectly preserved Evo IV RS.

Love the video
Thanks so much.
I can assure you, the AYC diffs do fail.
Mine did.
Ended up with a later Evo VII diff.
Yep. Standard
Came out good the Evo my friend
Appreciate that
is that one trim level below a full evo? I remember they had one with the turbo and awd forgot what they call it.. that interior is showing me off... where's the red recaros?
JDM number 1
Awesome build! Were there any other features that didn't work with the haltech 1500 besides the ic sprayer and the als that you wired in? Thanks!
Those were really the only things that the 4/5/6 had that was of any additional use. But we got it all working. It can do more in the future, now that we have the right ecu on board.
@hdwerks I have also been looking into a 1500. Thanks for your help!
@HD WERKS tire size? please!
Any more info on that shifter? I have metal shifter bushings installed interior and engine bay. People who ask to shift for me after hearing the clicky engagement always exclaim how tight and precise it feels. Is that the difference you noticed going from stock to this shifter setup or is there more benefits?
Precision is even better. And the placement is on point. One of the best driver mod - mods for this platform.
Hello im planning to buy wk shifter for my evo 4, is it still available on your web site? Thanks
Yes, it is. You can pick it up here: hdwerks.net/collections/wk-shifter-kits/products/wk-motorsport-short-shifter-kit-evo-4-9-5-speed-evo-x-5-speed
Anyone knows if Enkei WRC Tarmac EVO wheels 17x8" +35 offset 5x114.3 brembo spec will fit the EVO 4 RS? And what tire size to use 225/45 r17 or 235/45 r17 ?? I am confused! Please help thanks
They should. Can use a 235
@@hdwerksgood! Hey Pete if I use 235 I'm a bit concerned about tire rubbing at the rear fender, why 235 and not 225 ?? Please explain more thanks!
would a stock 70k mile evo 4 be a good daily driver? I drive less than 40 mins a day
Yes and no. Just depends on current quality and how you drive it. They’re super reliable if you take care of them
Пушка 😎👍
Expect crank walk if you change that clutch to an aggressive one if thats a true evo 4 motor
Yeah. Not too aggressive. The right oil helps a lot also
bayside blue brembos
dude didn't even have his seat belt on.
I did. It’s ok. We’re professionals
