Prior to the final play, GSW ran a variant of Spain pick and roll that got Klay to hit a clutch three, they're capable of running those plays without Steph, and Klay had made a bunch of shots already by the 4th quarter so he's got rhythm now. It led to his gravity luring the inbound defender, Morant, out of the paint to possibly deter the game winning shot. And yes, Poole's defender had TERRIBLE positioning, credit to Poole a lot for just cutting backdoor on him for the easy layup for the win
Steven Adams is big for their rebounding and the way he frees up Ja on screens but they can also survive a stretch without him. KAT basically forced the Grizzlies to bench Steven Adams the entire playoff series last year and they were still able to dominate the boards and pull out wins. I think we’ll just need to see JJJ and Ja step up.
It would be cool to get clips of the games shown while you're talking about the in depth details of plays. If unable to get clips, would be cool to have a Virtual Clipboard where JJ draws up the plays he's talking about.
The Grizzlies struggle with rebounding, screening, and discipline when Adams is out and the discipline is the real killer. Carelessness leads to turnovers, fouls and ejections, which lead to more burn for key players, which leads to fatigue. The Cavaliers' game was illustrative in this regard, JJJ was out so they had limited interior defense, but the fouling of Morant, Aldama, LaRavia and Brooks led to the game spiraling out of reach.
I love how I think I know basketball because of the history of NBA and then a player talks about plays and I realize how little I know about playing organized basketball 😅
JJ please don't do the same clickbaity thing as other channels. If you have Steven Adams in the title it should NOT be a 3s sentence at the end of the video.
Adams loss is huge. But also I have a huge question mark around Taylor Jenkins and his play calls. When the grizz were up by 10 in final quarter they kept slowing the play down to turtle pace and as a result the whole unit lost its offensive rhythm so the warriors get stops and get their own rhythm back on the offensive end. It’s the third or fourth time this has happened over the past fortnight and is painful to watch. Gotta keep playing and pushing the tempo cause the grizz’s halfcourt O is pretty average
I’m worried for my team. I also think the front office isn’t serious about the playoffs yet because this team absolutely needs perimeter depth that’s more than just Bane carrying the load. Our depth went away in replace for rookies and Z. Williams
I think we’re going to continue to see a lot of improvement from Ziaire, he plays incredibly hard and when you mix that with his natural talent he’s going to be a good player for us, and I think maybe even by the end of this season. Losing Melton really hurts, but we had to think about who we could/needed to keep long-term and he was the odd man out. We probably could use another wing guy to reduce the rookie minutes. We do need to focus on winning now but we also need to be careful not to make rash long-term decision, because this is a franchise that is built to contend for the next decade, not the next 2 years
@@brianhill2171 I think the assumption that this team will contend for the next decade is false. You window is now and the next couple of years. Man, what _is_ the proper assessment of Steven Adams? He's never been an all-star, and I don't think that's necessarily to understate his value. Is he just a solid role player, or is there some other piece of team composition that he fulfills?
Yeah I think he's just a super solid role player, his screen facilitation for his athletic guards, the pick n roll and his offensive rebounding are top tier. If he himself had some deadliness to his offense, that coaches had chosen to run through, then I think we could have seen him as an all-star, but as is, he just does his job and does it well.
He's simply Aquaman. Jokes aside, he does two things really well: offensive rebounds and screen-setting. It's fairly simple but effective work, which is why he always adds value to every team he's been on. His low demands on offense are specially helpful on teams whose main scoring options are guards. His screens open up the paint for just enough for his guards to go for a layup and then Adams can get back to rebound in case of a miss. I imagine that having such an affable guy in the locker room also helps team morale.
He’s routinely the embodiment of someone who’s value doesn’t show in the stat sheet, kinda like Draymond in that regard. Top tier role player that does a lot of little things that are pivotal to how teams function. Offensive boards, screens, DHO’s, his size in the post, his physicality and strength, etc
I think there is a piece of team composition. And right now the memphis grizzlies are leading in offensive rebounding. You might not think that's too impressive, and it's not. But now listen to this. In 8 of the last 9 seasons, whatever team steven adams has been on, has led the league in offensive rebounds. 1 time it's cool, 2 times it's a coincidence, 3 times it's a pattern. 8 times you've possibly got yourself one of the best roleplayers or *offensive* rebounder ever. So big, and able to create opportunities for him and his teammates to get boards. Combine that with that this season he has a offensive rebounding percentage 3rd all time. And 2 of these last grizzlies games without Stevo have had their lowest rebounding games this season. Sorry for the paragraph lol I'm a steven adams fanboy
