My grandparents lived at 80 Central Park West from 1970-1990 and I played at this park most of my childhood. It was a truly great playground. The playground originally had underground tunnels that were accessed by little holes atop the concrete structures with little ladders that lead down to tunnel grounds covered in sand. Kids would run through the narrow underground tunnels and pop out the other structures. Unfortunately they closed it all up with concrete due to homeless people taking shelter there. The pyramid with the slides also had a side that opened up and stored art supplies for kids. Occasionally a parks person would bring it all out and let the kids use it all for free. I'm 54 years old and I still have fond memories playing there in the 1970's.

Great documentary! Watching this and seeing that park brought back a rush of memories for me, going there with my family as a kid.

Thanks for that comment. I like hearing about people who grew up going there. It is such a special playground. Would love to see more of that innovation in NYC playgrounds
