I hate when people complain about Paul's voice and expect him to sing like 40 years ago, he was 62 years old at the time of video, isn't so easy to him to sing at this age; if you don't like his voice, just go watch their old live videos. Btw, their 80s stuff is awesome and this crowd is dead.
this isn't about pitch change. this is a shot voice that isn't coming back. vanity prevents him from realizing this and if he really cared about his fans he would just stop. this is pathetic. his vocal folds will no longer close. they are in a constant state of inflammation.
Soviet Fender :Yeah c'mon guys.I think they totally should be charging original Paul voice ticket prices today, for Paul's barking at you for two hours voice now.Uuugh.
This isn't an aged voice...There is something wrong with his voice...Glenn Hughes is still going now, is older than Paul and actually sounds better than when he was younger (especially after getting clean). I read somewhere that he had botched throat surgery...Been a KISS fan all my life but I can't do it...I passed on seeing them one last time...
Only thing that matters is theres still people like me that would still pay to see these guys. Doesnt matter that pauls voice is going. These guys still have a good time playing and theyve been a huge part of my life. I'll sing my lungs out with paul and sound like shit with him.
@Toric i wasnt embarassed at all lol i was having a good time actually. Then I flew and saw them in spokane the next night and did the same thing! Saw the same show two more times also and still had every chance of fun I could have had. I feel sorry for people like you and ill pray for you.
This song is so special to me as I worry about the health of my lovely wife Kathy. She was dx with cancer. We separated on bad terms as I was immature and selfish. Now, I realize just how much I loved her always. We are on good terms now and hopefully will be back together. I just want her health back first. My young son is showing such maturity. He is going to school and then working as a landscaper after school and helping his mom. He is giving up his fun for the love of his mother. This song really keeps it in check for me. Tears are falling. I pray for the day that she is healthy and I will take them on the best vacation ever.
I had the privilege of watching them at the L.A. Forum in 98 and whom ever hasn't dressed up as one of them, isn't a fan. BUT I agree with many of you...... it's time to hang up them boot!!! Thanks for the great memories guys, I still remember the day I met Paul and Gene in Glendale,CA....
This was painful and sad to watch! Always love KISS! But i always said when Paul voice is completely gone. Time to sail off into the sunset. As much as none of us want that to happen. It's time to sail boy's! Thx for the memories!
As a current graduate student in Speech Language Pathology, I'd like to make a few comments about the voice in general, and Paul's voice: as person grows older, it's very normal for the voice to drop in pitch, but Paul's voice is beyond that. I know he's been seeing an ENT for many years, but to my knowledge, it seems like this physician never referred him to a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) who specializes in Voice Therapy and Disorders. The vocal folds are very delicate, and something we take for granted. While an ENT can offer medical advice, prescribe medications, and perform surgeries, an SLP could have coached him over the years on how to take care of his vocal folds, and even the laryngeal and suprahyoid muscles. In terms of physiology, the muscles play an important role in vocal fold vibration. While Paul may have not smoked or drank alcohol, he could have also benefitted from therapy. I'm not saying his voice would sound the same had he gone through therapy, but I think it would have helped keep his vocal folds healthier. There's a strain to his voice, which leads to more vocal effort. I'd love to see how his vocal folds function through a videostroboscopy.
It's not normal. There are other singers like Glenn Hughes, who is older than Paul, did a ton of drugs (but is thankfully clean) and sounds better than when he was younger. Hughes began a full decade before KISS, and sang MUCH higher (and still does). I read somewhere that Paul had throat surgery that may have been botched...but Paul to me was one of the greatest rock singers of all time, really peaking from about 84 to 2004.
@@ferox965 I didn't say Paul's voice was normal. I'm saying everyone's voice changes through aging. Usually the pitch changes or there is a weaker vocal output. I was saying Paul's voice is beyond the normal aging. He's definitely abused his vocal folds throughout the years. I wouldn't be surprised if he's had nodules and/or polyps. As you said, maybe his throat surgery was botched. I was saying he could have benefitted from voice therapy from an SLP who specialized in voice disorders. After surgery, a therapy such as Confidential Voice Therapy could have benefitted Paul.
@@jessicab7063 I read somewhere that he had surgery on his vocal cords I believe in 2011. It was right there that he lost his voice drastically (which to be honest, was growing somewhat raspier since the mid 2000's but still had it's power)...Paul can't even do the vibrato he was doing just prior to that anymore....There are other singers, like Glenn Hughes, being the biggest example who is older and hasn't lost one ounce of his voice, I'd even say he sounds better now, even though he sings much higher and just as forcefully and constantly tours even now since the late sixties..I wonder what happened...If it was botched surgery (which I believe ended Julie Andrews long career), or if he simply didn't recuperate properly...
ferox965 I believe at the least he didn’t recover properly. He actually has given CREDIT (unfounded imo) to his ENT doc in a video. Ultimately I think he had a mediocre surgery followed by a rush to push his voice too quickly. Wish he had a better surgeon and then saw you AND toured with at least one rest day between each show. Alas...we can at least wish. Oh well.
There's a lack of life in that guitar solo, just sounds dead and buried. Bruce always made this song with his solo, the whole song and solo just always had energy and life. Unlike here sadly.
So it's a bit rough around the edges and yeah Paul's vox are pretty much blown but I still dig it. Not a Kiss apologist either (I think the Elder sucks and Revenge is overrated as hell) but just appreciating the tunes and performances (as ramshackle as they may be) because Kiss have been around for so long (over 45 years!) I think we fans tend to take them for granted but it's soon coming to it's end (and given the condition of Stanley's voice and the lipsynch/playback controversy--not a fine of it myself--perhaps it's for the best) and I'm gonna miss 'em.
I love how at the beginning when Paul's doing the chorus a cappella, Tommy's singing every word with him to cover Paul's voice. I love these guys, and I have huge respect for Paul as a person, but his voice just isn't what it used to be...
