People don't realize how fast 40 mph is until you hit something stationary at 40 mph lol
Also the same peaple do not think about that, how much enegy in the 60+mph cruising speed compared to the 40 mph...
A friend of mine was driving and I was the passenger. He drove 40km/h (25mph) looked away for a second and drow straight into a concrete barrier. That slow speed broke one of his arms.
Thats why people think volvo safe always and die at 66kph
@@StopTeoriomSpiskowym That's just bullshit! Look at the statistics. Barely anyone dies in a Volvo.
@@HaasGrotesk There are multitude of reasons that Volvo drivers die less. Of course the safety of the car is a factor, but you have to keep in mind that people who buy Volvos drive slower and more carefully. If someone makes a car choice based on safety you can bet your ass they are willing to drive safely.
That said, it's very possible you die in a Volvo going 66kph, as with any car. 66kph is a very high speed for a collision considering that most people are going to break down to about 40kph before impact, that's why crash tests are made at that speed.

It is a Volvo, do you even need to test it?
At 1:05 - 1:10 they show how to implement perfect small offset protection. There is a triangle shape plate with a reinforcement profile behind the front wheel, it 'gently' pushes the car away from the barrier. Much better than the full stop some other cars come to.
At 2:31 you can see the steering column is retracting, similar to Audi procon ten system from before airbags were introduced.
This is not rocket science. It's just dedication to go the extra mile for safety.
Just clarifying because I'm intrigued by this. Is the steering column retraction at 1:31?

Excellent...👌 good job volvo, I drive a BMW 5 series, next time I'm going for xc90...
I am driving xc90 2018, next time I am going for G wagon probably. Volvo is perfect car, you just might be let down by small engine or by the fact they are now limited to 180 km/h from 2020.
E P You could always tune your engine, my V90 with "only" 190 hp is good enough imo. Don't know what you think about the speed being limited but honestly, how often do you drive over 180km/h?
very safe cars, with the best safety avoidance systems. Saw a video of an xc90 owner said it saved him when he went to make a lane change a moped was zipping around him from a different lane behind, it nudged him back over just as soon as the moped entered the blind spot. Volvo cars also have some intersection collision avoidance features and will prevent an ill-advised left turn from occurring. But I do not like the idea of owning the (twin) turbo out of warranty. Perhaps the 2020’s have it all ironed out
@@Bf3pro1 you can not tune engine capacity, it needs 2 more cylinders to be just right.
As for speed, I don't like to be limited, doesn't matter if I need it once a month or two times a day.

These are not the newly refreshed 2021 S90 and V90. This video was released back in 2016.
No, check the title, it's a 2021, so don't try to make it seem better than what it is.
@@auzracing3089 The title is wrong. These are pre-facelift cars (2016-2020), you can see that on the cars very easily, so not MY2021 cars. Even under Chinese command Volvo keep its safety standards really high. But the 5-serie and E-class are at this same level. It is not only Volvo, by todays standards even much cheaper brands are more save than top models 15 years ago....

why no video from the bottom? thats for they have glass floor
Can someone tell me why the seat belts are not holding the body back so much that the head doesn't even hit the steering wheel? Is this for safety reasons so that the body isn't stopped too fast?
Have you ever noticed that the cars from Volvo always slide off when beeing crash tested in a small overlap? Every other brand directly hits the barrier and stays at the crash location.
That's maybe because Volvo designed their cars for such a collision long before it became a standard. Remember a couple years back, Volvo were the only cars that easily passed this test, while almost every other car failed, because other brands didn't bother to spend money for a test that was not necessary...
Not, volvo...they never cut corners when it comes to safety
The more forward momentum the car possesses after the crash, the less energy transferred to the occupants. Means they're safe.
@@dimosk7389 Volvo had something called vision 2020 or something like that a few years or a decade ago where they said it was their design goal that no person who owned a Volvo would die in a crash. Period. I think they don't care what the standards are, they might legitimately care about saving lives...
Some car manufactorers have started to cheat in this test, making only the driver side properly for this test.
If you look closely at the structure demonstration in the video you will notice a triangular reinforced plate behind the wheel that acts as a slope for pushing the car away. Some other manufacturers just reincorce the heck out of the A pillar so it doesn't collapse.
Actually Renault once had a nice remark on small overlap when asked how their cars would fare. They said the cars are not designed for it because its not tested in euro ncap. So there you have it. Many cars are made to pass crash tests. Not to protect the passengers.
I hit a dear at 30? mph square to the side of his body. Sent the deer flying off to the side of the road dead instantly. My S80 wasn't damaged a bit. Drove away shaking my head at what just happen. I'm looking to get out of my 2002 Volkswagen and back into a Volvo as soon as I have enough money. I looked at other less expensive cars safety test record but the crash test don't hold up as well as a Volvo. Even those with 5 star ratings preform less than a Volvo. Sure, I'm not happy with the cost of ownership but, I don't have a choice Volvo is the Best and the best could mean the difference between 8 months painful rehabilitation or just walking way without pain the next day. This time I'm thinking of settling for a S60 or an older C70, I like a convertible. S80's are hard to find with low mileage on them and I don't want to take out a loan.
You do realize that an older volvo isn't going to be as safe as a new 5 star safety rating car. An older volvo is safe against other cars of its time. Its not going to be as safe as new cars though
Renault is better

1:08 why does the front horizontal bar extend further on the drivers side than the passengers side?
I think because to Save weight. The Front bar extension is mainly to protect the passenger compartment in case of an small overlap crash as shown in the Test.
In Countries witch have right hand traffic you crash only with the driver side into other cars. The same applies to left-hand traffic. only that the extension is on the other side in this case. (It's just a guess)
In autostrada il limite è 130 nelle tangenziali 90 km/h perché non fanno crash test a 130 km/h e a 90km/h? A che serve farlo a 50 60 km/h?
Just been watching the crash test for my 1996 Toyota Previa, making me feel abit sick when you compare it to this Volvo!
Tank ?
Driving Volvo makes me feel safer than other cars.
This is why i love volvo
Yesterday morning at 3:30 am I lost control and went through a fence, hit a pole, got sent flipping in the air and landed on the drivers side of my car. Climbed out of the passenger door unscathed and got to go home to see my family. I was driving a 2005 Volvo S60. Buy your children Volvo’s for their first cars. Wear your seatbelt. They save lives.
I am glad to have a volvo as my first car. I was thinking of something more sporty but we had this s80 as the family beater and I took it as my own and love it. Already saved my neck from whiplash when I was rear ended. And I already have back problems from a previous accident form being rear ended when I was a child but in my Volvo the WHIPs prevented me from getting hurt more. I was so impressed considering it shoved my car forward a couple of feet (with the brakes on) when I was hit at the stop light. I love this car and will keep it as long as it survives. Definitely will be getting more of these cars over the years. Such amazing engineering goes into them. My mom was saved by an older 240 wagon when she got blindsided by a work truck on a blind curve (the truck was backing out of a driveway) and hit it at some high speed. All the doctors said because of the Volvo she was able to get away with only bruising and a dislocated hip that otherwise could have been a shattered pelvic bone and some serious damage.
Fun fact:
If you check out other crash tests , the logo will fly while during front crash test. But volvo, we can see the whole bumper fell down but the logo wont. Logo also has seatbelt , safety!!

Never keep your thumbs on the steering wheel like that 1:29 I did study radiography and in a crash (even a small one) the thumbs get flipped back which causes ugly small bones fractures that are very long to heal. In fact, these never heal properly and you are left for life with pain in thumb joint. Pass the word
That is actually recommend all over the internet these days. To keep the thumbs out.
2:02 badum tss
I think the next advancement in car technology is cars deflecting away from the impact if it is a small overlap crash.

Why did the curtian airbags not deploy in the 2nd test
Because why
Was that a leg airbag?
Why both cars front passenger airbag not function?
Prob disabled for the test for better visibility is my guess specially since only testing one side of the car this explanation makes most sense.
Why the mirrors from V60 are reversed?
I think it's from another car that crashed. That part is not a scale for safety but has to be there so they put it from another car I guess.
