Of course the safety of the car is a factor, but you have to keep in mind that people who buy Volvos drive slower and more carefully. If someone makes a car choice based on safety you can bet your ass they are willing to drive safely.
      That said, it's very possible you die in a Volvo going 66kph, as with any car. 66kph is a very high speed for a collision considering that most people are going to break down to about 40kph before impact, that's why crash tests are made at that speed.

    At 1:05 - 1:10 they show how to implement perfect small offset protection. There is a triangle shape plate with a reinforcement profile behind the front wheel, it 'gently' pushes the car away from the barrier. Much better than the full stop some other cars come to.
    At 2:31 you can see the steering column is retracting, similar to Audi procon ten system from before airbags were introduced.

Saw a video of an xc90 owner said it saved him when he went to make a lane change a moped was zipping around him from a different lane behind, it nudged him back over just as soon as the moped entered the blind spot. Volvo cars also have some intersection collision avoidance features and will prevent an ill-advised left turn from occurring. But I do not like the idea of owning the (twin) turbo out of warranty. I looked at other less expensive cars safety test record but the crash test don't hold up as well as a Volvo. Even those with 5 star ratings preform less than a Volvo. Sure, I'm not happy with the cost of ownership but, I don't have a choice Volvo is the Best and the best could mean the difference between 8 months painful rehabilitation or just walking way without pain the next day. This time I'm thinking of settling for a S60 or an older C70, I like a convertible. S80's are hard to find with low mileage on them and I don't want to take out a loan.

      You do realize that an older volvo isn't going to be as safe as a new 5 star safety rating car. An older volvo is safe against other cars of its time. Its not going to be as safe as new cars though

    1:08 why does the front horizontal bar extend further on the drivers side than the passengers side?

    • @benbieger5715
      @benbieger5715 4 роки тому +2

      I think because to Save weight. The Front bar extension is mainly to protect the passenger compartment in case of an small overlap crash as shown in the Test.
      In Countries witch have right hand traffic you crash only with the driver side into other cars. The same applies to left-hand traffic. only that the extension is on the other side in this case. (It's just a guess)

    Yesterday morning at 3:30 am I lost control and went through a fence, hit a pole, got sent flipping in the air and landed on the drivers side of my car. Climbed out of the passenger door unscathed and got to go home to see my family. I was driving a 2005 Volvo S60. Buy your children Volvo’s for their first cars. Wear your seatbelt. They save lives.

      I am glad to have a volvo as my first car. I was thinking of something more sporty but we had this s80 as the family beater and I took it as my own and love it. Already saved my neck from whiplash when I was rear ended. And I already have back problems from a previous accident form being rear ended when I was a child but in my Volvo the WHIPs prevented me from getting hurt more. I was so impressed considering it shoved my car forward a couple of feet (with the brakes on) when I was hit at the stop light. I love this car and will keep it as long as it survives. Definitely will be getting more of these cars over the years. Such amazing engineering goes into them. My mom was saved by an older 240 wagon when she got blindsided by a work truck on a blind curve (the truck was backing out of a driveway) and hit it at some high speed. All the doctors said because of the Volvo she was able to get away with only bruising and a dislocated hip that otherwise could have been a shattered pelvic bone and some serious damage.

    Never keep your thumbs on the steering wheel like that 1:29 I did study radiography and in a crash (even a small one) the thumbs get flipped back which causes ugly small bones fractures that are very long to heal. In fact, these never heal properly and you are left for life with pain in thumb joint. Pass the word
