I’m in the budding phase and I wear my hair proudly. At first I was worried about being “ugly” but quickly said eff it. I have the same face take me or leave me.
I can understand why she uses the term "ugly phase" its the least acceptable phase in social and professional settings. Although N.Y. passed a law banning discrimination against natural hairstyles(specifically locs) they expect a more manicured look. There has been alot of controversy about locs in the past few years such as children being sent home and being told there hair isnt appropriate, the wrestler who had to have his locs cut off to participate in a match. Those people dont understand our hair but they are quick to criticize.Friz is seen as hair not properly maintained and thats why this is "the ugly phase".
No ugly stage. We are beautiful whatever we do with our Natural hair. I'm 62 And my loc hair is beautiful. We need to leave the old world terminology in the old world. Wear your Natural hair based on black beautiful people Not on other people's Opinions of our black hair. Black And beautiful!
Thanks for the video it really helps I’m at the budding stage it looks a hot mess but everyone on internet says to embrace it so I will I’m 72 years old been wanting to do this for years
Yay great job on trying something new. Life makes you feel younger when you trying new things because you're looking forward to what may happen with your hair. Good for you
I'll wear headwraps but let some locks stick out. I think you can have lazy days where you don't feel like being bothered. On those days I wear a headwrap with no locs out but pushed back to where my parts can be seen and lay my edges. You can always feminize locs to avoid seeing them as having an ugly stage, i.e. loc jewelry, scarfs, etc. Your skin is off the chain in this video btw!
@Boho Trends Locs & Vlogs! Pretty Good I just realized They turned 5months old 🤣 I'm in need of a retwist now, I haven't had one in a couple months, trying to lay ofmy edges for awhile.
Omg I was panicking until you showed us what is actual budding. I thought I had messed up my first re-twists (I did it myself). But my hair looks like yours, I actually have some strands with two buds. I am calm now and I can get on with my life knowing that this is supposed to happen. Thank you 😊
I was concerned about my budding bc it didn’t look like the other pictures I have seen. But your hair looks EXACTLY like mine :) Thank you for the visibility
I'm so glad when I decided to go on my loc journey I had just retired so I didn't have to worry about trying to look cute at work. I'm 11 months in and I let my hair do what it do!
I just got my hair twisted yesterday lol and I’m like guess I’m gonna go through it idc everyone used to me looking a certain kinda way so change is good
Yeah I got instant locs on dry hair and it's starting to bud after a week. I still feel like it's the beginning of a "ugly" phase but I'm loving it so far.
I started my loc journey 8.2.19 with two strand twists after being natural (no chemicals) for about 4 years (so I had length). I visit my stylist ev four weeks for a shampoo & detox or loc maintenance. I did not know what was happening and was getting frustrated with the fuzzy/frizziness two weeks or so after my appointment. The knots (buds) and fuzziness down the strands were beginning to irk me but I understand now that it is just part of the process - the “ugly” or budding phase. That gives me relief and I can now fully embrace it. I was contemplating cutting it all off and starting over. Thanks for your video and explanation...I even had the shears out trimming the “fly always and strays which I will definitely stop that now. 🤦🏽♀️ Lesson has been learned.
I started my locs in February this year.. I have shaved sides & back I get designs bout once a month!! I love it!! Less locs.. I have always wanted shaved sides w/ design every since I was a lil girl.. this will be my third set of locs!! Since I started my locs (this time) in the winter I just wore beanies all winter. I wrapped them in silk scarf underneath.. for me it was easier to keep from looking & touching them all the time.. I made sure to add water & oil them so they would not be dry.. they seem to locked faster & growing real fast!! This time I am learning to embrace the frizz & not retwisting as often ,that is how I lost my second set of locs ... I wanted to do a protective style but my hair just wants to be left alone
I'm in the baby phase I'm working on week 5 with no wash or no retwisting. I'm trying to rock this phase with no hat or head wraps! I am embracing my locs and I love the new growth.
I'm one month in tomorrow and although I'm not fond of the early stage (not ugly), I'm down for the journey. I found your channel when I started my locs.
Thank you for your interesting video i have scarring alopecia & i have almost learnt to live with it Some years ago i thought of getting locks Stay Blessed 🇬🇧💖
im at my budding stage after 1 month and a retwist and im proud of it because ii used to wanna comb my hair out because it was ugly... but ii learned to appreciate my hair because “Ugly Things Will Turn Out Beautiful” (idk if that’s how it goes) but ii love every stage of my hair as long my dreads are beautiful😊
Great information. I wish mine would just start already ! 3 months in and nothing yet . I wear scrub caps at work and scarves all of the time so I can cover up.
I have wavy hair and my Dreds in bk of my head is unraveling 😔😔😔and I’m scared it’s not going to stay.... my hair is to soft back there I guess .... help!!
This is normal, especially if you have starter locs with loose curl pattern. They will eventually start to loc. Be sure to shampoo, it really helps with tangling the locs. I recommend conditioning as well for moisture. You can put a net cap over your locs when you wash to help with unraveling but still allows you to scub. Just give it some time! It will loc 😊
Thank you for that tutorial I needed to here that I'm 9 months in my journey and the budding is ugly I look in the mirror yesterday morning and told myself that I'm embarrassing my crown 👑 so again thank you 😊
Going threw mine now... not gonna lie before I started this journey i use to wear my hair a different way every week... I couldn't stand my hair looking old I wouldn't even get my money's worth in a hair style lol... now since I've been going threw this journey I've been more patient and accepting of my natural hair... im living this journey...I started mine 2 weeks ago and I'm going to try not to do my first retwist until April 🤗
I'm in the loc ugly stage right now 😭😭😭 people are making comments like I don't want to do my hair but I know if I manipulate it too much it will hurt my progress on getting them fully loc'd 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’m looking into getting loc extensions. Do you recommend the same products for loc extensions as you do for starter locs. Also do you recommend the same maintenance (when to wash, moisturizing, etc.) I find your videos so helpful thank you so much!
If you dont take pride in the "budding" you dont need to grow locs at all. & definitely if you are calling it the ugly stage & honestly think it doesn't look appealing.
Exactly! Its all about re-conditioning our minds to know that our locs are beautiful. We've been taught for so long that our naturally kinky curly hair is "ugly" and unacceptable aka dreadful or dreadlocks.
I'm on my forth month and yes I've noticed some budding but didn't know why or what it was called. It doesn't bother me I just thought but was a big loc lol.
I recently started my locs. October 19, 2019 to be exact!😊 It’s getting frizzy and I have loose hair at the bottom in the back. I do work in a office and everyone is looking at me crazy. I am concerned about how I look. So yes please do a video with head bands etc. I can’t where hats or scarves. I can’t wait until they blossom. I am gonna be one bomb loc chick! WE ALL ARE!
I can relate to you, I started mine 3 weeks ago. I work in cooperate America and I feel like a crazy person. I have decided to start wearing a wig but I wish I didn't have too. I want to wear my hair proudly but the looks and questions are getting on my nerves. I am researching creative ways I can wear it to work. I can't do hats so a hair band or some accessories that look professional.
I couldn't do it. I been....cut them. I am thinking about sister locs though. I get so sick of trying to style my hair. I regret cutting them. But hopefully everyone else has blossom now.
@@Jusfre Aw, I'm so sorry to hear that. How long did you keep them in and what was the main reason for you cutting them? Why didn't you have them combed out?
Thanks for this video because I am in the budding phase. I still wouldn't want instant locs because I want authentic locs naturally. Instant locs or extensions defeats the whole purpose of growing locs imo🤷🏾♀️

No you can wait
My hair is budding, acting a fool, being really disrespectful with me but i love it😂😂😂😂i cant wait to get over this stage eh
In the beginning of my journey I wore a hat for 3 days and said forget it. Either they're gonna hate it or love it!
