I just wanted to say having discovered your channel a few days ago what a terrific job you are doing. Your videography and storytelling skills are off the charts and the way you focus on the landscapes rather than the boat is much appreciated for a sailing channel. Plus I love your energy which is really calm and with a sense of humour, still laughing about diesel mechanics, not being rocket science, except for me, I feel the same way about engines.

Great videos! We are second year sailors living in northern Alberta and spend our summers sailing the gulf islands. We watch your videos to get ideas for trips. We sort of consider you two as a scouting posse lol. I cant imagine the stories you could tell.

Thank you for watching :) Sounds like we need drop the trap deeper for prawns! The fish was a lingcod we had caught the day before. Didn’t have any luck with fishing and crabbing the last few days but that’s the way it goes sometimes!

@@AllisonandJamesSailing Seems we're birds of a feather. I bought a 1973 Bayliner Buccaneer. It's like an RV on water. I'm in deep Bay right now working on it. I also own a 1973 VW bus and I see you've got an old Airstream. Nothing beats those sweet sweet curves of classic vehicles. My outboard is a mercury, like yours and I am also without a windlass. You do enjoy the luxury of a roller furler though. I'm hank on for my head sail. We really have to meet for a cold one at some point.

I'm making my way to BC, Victoria preferably. I'm coming from NS, and my soul purpose is to purchase a sailboat, and start my life as a live aboard sailer. And no, I never sailed before, and hoping I'm not biting off more than I can chew. I see so many doing it, and I feel compelled in a huge way to live aboard a sailboat. Any point, and/or tips for a lone wanna be sailor.
Congrats on making the decision to move your life to the water. Def biting off more than you can chew (that’s the way when buying boats) but hopefully it will be a rewarding one! The sailing world is quite big out east, you might have great luck finding a boat on that side, or something in the Great Lakes (we’d recommend looking there). Best of luck!
Just found your channel and started at the beginning and now am here, enjoying the videos very much, very inspiring! I am not clear on a few things though and was wondering: so you quit your health care jobs? looks like James was an RN and Allison what was your job? and you sail all the summer months then go to the airstream for the winter months? Are you still working somehow? Just trying to figure out how you are doing this... also can you put the month of the video in the description because we think of doing some sailing around there and it would help if the month was on your video so we could see what the weather looks like in the different places up there...its all very fun and interesting, good for you two for just doing it!!!
Awe so glad you found us, happy to hear you’re really enjoying the videos! To answer your questions: we both took a pause from working in healthcare in order to focus on our goal of sailing to Alaska. We downsized our life to the trailer while working and saving money in order to be able to purchase and outfit the boat. Correct James is a nurse. I am a registered Dietitian. We still work constantly haha myself on filming and producing the videos as well as other side jobs during the winter months. James is still very much employed as a nurse. As it looks right now he crams 12 months of work into 7 then we are able cruise the spring and summer months. We wish we could be out there more, but that’s where its at currently. We’ve been cruising primarily May-September, the weather is pretty wet and chilly during the Spring, warming up mid-July to September, but then the fog rolls in! Hope that’s helpful, cheers!

@@AllisonandJamesSailing yes its been a thought... we still have work to do on the boat we have, its a 1985 beneteau first 38 that had been sitting in the marina over 2 years neglected... it will be nice when we get it going but we have a ton to fix/update on it... in the meantime we sail a J24 for fun.

Hey guys 45 to 55 fathoms with rocky bottom if you get shrimp you are too deep! If you get nothing you are not deep enough!!! I hope that this helps 😎 Enjoy

Thanks Dan! We’re currently doing an electrical overhaul on the boat, the starter battery sure can be a little sluggish at times.

I think it was down at around 150’
