  • Hi loves, here is a snippet of daily life in this simple off-grid community in Autumn here in the heart of the Raincoast, British Columbia’s wild uninhabited pacific coastline to the North..
    We really feel at home here on Gilford Island in the beautiful Broughton Archipelago... we anchored our small sailboat in iconic Echo Bay & quickly met everyone who lives in this remote off-grid community, which didn't take long seeing how there's less than ten people here all year round. We ended up moving off our boat and into a rustic and cozy off-grid cottage here.. after a busy Summer moving our floating home around constantly, it's felt really good to be in one place for a while..
    We acknowledge the Kwakwaka'wakw people, the original caretakers and stewards of the lands and waterways on which this film was created, on the unceded territory of the Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw First Nations.

We had a loose keel and I installed 5/8 sister studs and rebuild the electric system, plus we sailed between Refuge Cove to Friday Harbour, going crazy watching your channel !!

    I try my best to eat plant based but I don’t go by the vegan label because it’s pretty challenging and can be difficult at times to find vegan options or deny yourself. On odd occasions I will have dairy/cheese and eggs.. and some fish. It’s tough especially when you’re with others who aren’t vegan so that’s why I’m not strict about it! Crab is really good but yea it must be hard to boil them 🥲 update: or cut them with a knife! Lol 😆

    • @AllisonandJamesSailing
      @AllisonandJamesSailing  Рік тому +2

      Eating a plant based diet is definitely the way to go! SO important to get those nutrient dense fiber rich veggies, legumes nuts and whole grains in! I agree vegan diets can be very challenging and restrictive for folks. Nutritionally speaking there is no harm in consuming dairy products, eggs and high quality seafoods and meats! As a nutritionist I highly recommend eating these foods if you enjoy them! Most of the vegan options on the market are highly processed foods that don’t enhance the nutritional quality of your diet. I do understand if folks chose not to consume animals for personal reasons but you do not by any means need to cut these things out to be healthy! Same goes for sugar, gluten and all the other demonized foods 😈
      Sounds like you’ve got it nailed, eating healthy shouldn’t be restrictive.. and having a healthy ‘relationship’ with food is just as important as the food itself! Clearly I am passionate about this subject haha I’ve binged a lot of ‘Food Psych’ podcasts, highly recommend! Good chats as always! -A

      @itscarolinemary Рік тому +1

      @@AllisonandJamesSailing very true, I know there’s a fair amount of criticism regarding vegan meats or cheese being processed. I’m trying to eat more plant based due to ethical reasons.. but I haven’t committed fully because it’s very “restrictive” and difficult at times if the options aren’t there. I might message you to discuss more about it sometime :) didn’t know you were a nutritionist!

    hmmmmm. Kinda glad I have become allergic to crabs, lobster and other water and land bugs (Chitin---exoskeletons) They use ground shells, and such to also clear the yeast particles from vats of beer and wine. So I became allergic to all beers and wines as well. I worked in a zoo for decades and had a venomous bite, and since I have become allergic to venoms, and the insects we used to feed other animals. Glad I don't like eating invertebrates.
