ALWAYS USE ATF+4 i had to suck mine out in my 05 i ram i bought because it had regular ps fluid and got stiff after you drove awhile been fine since i replaced the fluid with right stuff

it had clear fluid is how i knew it was regular power steering fluid
Yeah, they very well could be the issue. I know some Ford and ram use ATF +4.
Aftermarket rack and pinions are junk source an oem from the dealership
