I've heard many of these R.R. tribute shows... MR. Marty Friedman completely honored Randy Rhoads in the same way Randy would have honored any of his heroes. Beyond Awesome... Legendary!
It you want to hear it played exactly like Randy then listen to Randy and you will never be disappointed. Bottom line is that Marty is paying respect playing in his own way as I would want him to.
Hold on. Nobody expected Marty to just copy Randy note for note. But that SUCKED. The tone and the sound was awful. The rhythm sections absolutely failed to capture the beauty of Randy's arrangement. And the solos were bad with a LOT of questionable notes. Because I am a huge fan of Marty's playing I was shocked at how bad this version was. It goes to show that even a legend like Marty can have a bad night. And telling the truth is not hating.
Well for all you haters. This was obviously an event to honor Randy. So all of the musicians probably played his music. And of course they put in the music their own interpretation or soloing. What's the point to be a copycat?
No one can play like Randy could, it not even worth trying, you may as well learn what randy can teach you and put your own spin on it, he would be proud of any of us still learning and playing from him
@@WarthDader74 I agree. I don't mind a legend like Marty offering a unique interpretation of a classic song. But that sounded like shit. The tone was muddy and ugly. The rhythm parts were ill conceived and failed to capture the beauty of Randy's arrangement. The solos were not good either. Frankly I was shocked at how bad this version was. I love Marty and think he is an incredible player. Nonetheless we all have off days and this was one of them. Telling the truth is not hating.
What I think happened is that Marty didn't learn the original solo, just the chords to the song, and then just improvised live. If I wanted to hear the original solo, I'd watch one of Randy's live performances. Although they clearly didn't rehearse very much, I still like this cover, although of course it's not as good as the original.
Marty didn't come close to playing the right chords or capturing the beauty of Randy's arrangement. I'm a HUGE fan of Marty's playing but this version SUCKED. Tone and sound were abysmal. And the solos were bad too. Frankly, I was shocked watching this. I've never heard Marty play this bad EVER.
I believe that if Rhoads (RIP) had never died he wouldn't had stayed with Ozzy long, he probably would have delved more into Classical and music more like this and strayed away from Heavy Metal.
maybe, heavy metal was new wave back then so Randy was in trend, but yeah he would probably retire from metal... and then return just like Ritchie Blackmore speaking of rock music
Nonsense. He grew up on rock he looked like a rock star he played like a rock star you are basically saying he would've retired and become John Williams or Julian Bream lmao. If he were still alive he would be doing these little shows in california playing his riffs/songs from Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman with other ex Ozzy players to small audiences no doubt...
His writing on diary of a madman was super rushed, if you don't think he wouldn't have gotten some alone time, and made some super good solo album or something, then you're nuts..
Of course he can. He’s a bigger player with more years of playing and theory under his belt. Randy was a legend virtuoso innovator and therefore a different league in a way.
To the haters, Marty is playing in Db here. Also, these events are usually under-rehearsed due to schedule conflicts and logistics. However, yeah, this kinda sounds like shit. OK-ish rhythm section, vocalist a bit tired maybe, and the doll on keys was probably trying to lose her job.
Have you ever played anything hand a step below the actual key that's playing in the background? You're gonna have to stop within 5 seconds, it will sound that awful. There's no tuning confusion here, just Marty being his awesome self and improvising a fantastic solo. There might not be one lick here in the solo that's true to the original but It's in key!
Marty, with your superb technique and professionalism, we all know you can follow Randy's solo note by note and want to do more, but that's not the point. It's not just about technique. Randy's solo composition on this song is perfect or, at least, close to that, I dare say, just like Jimi's on "Little Wing." You should have played as Randy played and showed how much emotion you could put in.
As it is a show that should remind randy I agree that he should play as his own, but even so Marty can convey all the feeling he has, one of the greatest guitarists I've ever seen playing.
Ritchie Rosson Ozzy wrote every melody and harmony and part of the lyrics. Goodbye to Romance was hummed to Randy by Ozzy and Randy worked out the chords. Yes Bob wrote most of the lyrics. Go ahead and listen to Don Aireys interview on UA-cam he was the keyboardist in the Blizzard of Ozz band. No one ever told Ozzy what to sing. He came up with every melody and that is half of publishing as far as copyright is concerned.
Ritchie Rosson Please stop saying this , the song was a variation of Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D . This of course was all Randy's doing . It's toltal crap the way Sharon has treated Bob and Lee but, stop accrediting songs that were written by RR to Bob . RR has been gone for over 30 years , and Bob has not written anything close to those two album's with Ozzy . RR was the main inspiration for those songs . He was the classically trained musician .
Aldrin Eldredge When Randy wrote the piano solo in Revelation Mother Earth , they had to get a classically trianed pianist to show him how to play it . I have no grudge against any of the guys in the band at the time but , they're all still alive today . If RR wasn't the main ingredient behind the writing , why don't any of the album's since those first two compare to them ?
Ok solo but definitely does not come close to the melody the feel the phrasing and the execution of what Master Rhoads has done. Marty over acts when he plays God bless Randy Rhoads.
To me tribute is not playing exactly like the original it's more like honouring the original piece and conveying the general musical idea. Maybe it's not like and just being dumb as always
People remember people in their own translation, thus should not be played like Rhodes because Marty is not Rhodes! You will notice in most not all but most covers by professional musicians of well known status will tend to play it in their own translation!
To be honest I think Marty butchered the song and it seemed to me he didn't even want to be there it was like... yawn... like he was going through the motion he did NOTHING for the song he should stay and japan
+Malte Micha you got it right my friend. that's why they call them covers not exact duplications. I look at covers like new music, I want to hear a difference. I don't want an exact duplication because if that's all there is, what was the point? Listen to the original.
Read some of the comments, then listened to Ozzy & Zakk' live version of the song.. Inhave to say this was too much of a shred-fest.. Soul essence of this song was lost. Respect to all these fantastic and epic musos, but musoc is about evoking emotions and this just didn't cut it for me. Technically it was way up high on the bar. I didn't expect Marty to copy RR, but I wanted to feel the song and I jist couldn't!
I get the whole tribute thing to randy but if your gonna do that then I woulda played what randy did not improvise your own solo cause then your playing just some solo over that key and not goodbye to romance. Just saying.
Wow once again I'm disappointed with another bad version of a Randy song by a guitar player I love. First George Lynch doing Flying High again then Steve Morris from the Living loud project now even Marty. Why these guys want to do there own leads is beyond me. They will never improve what Randy did & would come off much better by learning the solo right & playing it note for note.
Are you serious? marty killed it doesnt mean that because someone wrote it that you cant hear it from someone else Randy was great and a pioneer but he is nowhere near martys skills and felling
Yes I am very serious. Did you see my first line at all? Listen to the compositional quality of Randys original recording, and please do not come back and tell me that the soloing of Marty here, is on the same level - Compositionally! Martys solo on Tornado of souls - now that is in the same league of composition, again I love Marty, but my ears are my tools as a musician, and I use them!
No problem with adding one’s own artistic creativity to a song/ solo. Brad Gillis played this solo within the context of the melody his way and I have to say is a worthy version of Randy’s original solo. Not to mention he had only 1 day to learn the entire set list under pressure... he basically winged this solo live. No time to rehearse the song . I like his solo almost as much as Randy’s it was that good. But this solo Friedman does here is just horrible.

@@xxvenom Randy would’ve loved that improvisation of that solo
a beautifully unique tribute, rest in peace Randy
Marty is as close to Randy as we will ever see

Robert Mason ?? Sounds 3 am-ish house band. AWESOME !!
Love rudy there

Nice solo!.....
A strangled cat!
Marty likes him some Marty.
Now that's a tribute
That white plexi
Solo pretty good.
Better than your average bar cover. Nothing wrong with Marty's guitar playing here. I *have* heard worse.
Bassist looks just like Rudy Sarzo
Marty can actually play as well as Randy. Lol.
He wishes...pffft.
Lol stop it
Marty is the goat
Of course he can. He’s a bigger player with more years of playing and theory under his belt. Randy was a legend virtuoso innovator and therefore a different league in a way.
When ?
+Coucouj . . . Wow! There's actually an alphabet with enough letters to write that username?
when Marty too much good, MAB became a bass player
Bruhh 😂😂
He made it hard on himself being tuned down a half step.

No matter what we say, haters gonna hate! They've born to do it. :(
This version is absolutely horrible, a disgrace to both RR and Ozzy.

I liked it a little more than Zack's version. Zack over does it a little.
being a marty fan and having heard this song a 1000 times... I wish I hadn't come across this video :-(
Farty McCuntflapz.....Sorry, Hendrix blows the clown away...and he is dead LMAO

Actually he was struggling with just the basic rhythm patterns lol
puta marty, vo eri seco po wn, no te cuesta na aprenderte el solo bien po wn
Bob Daisley’s song not Ozzy’s. Ozzy didn’t write a single song in his life.

Oh my god you blasphemer
That solo sounds like a heartfelt solo but the melody is not in the same way.
Awful marty murdered a classic
I think if that is a tribute it should be played just like the original solo because people are there to remember the RANDY isn't it?

No kidding....Farty McCunt Flapz.

poop show
This is terrible
Marty is a waste without a big band to spotlight his skills, kinda sad
He's big in Japan
Nope. Uh uh. He just made up his own lead, not even close to the original.
Oh I didn't notice
Love Marty but too bad he didnt play the solo correctly. Its Randy Rhoades. Why even play it if youre not gonna do the solo right.
I wish I didn't come across this version.. USE ME AS DISLIKE
The keyboard player wanted to follow the melody for the solo, but Friedman's ego is just... Ugh
this performance isn’t good.
This is not good. I'm surprised. The singer sucks, the guitar is not good....wow disappointing.
