Man of Constant Sorrow is a really good one if you want real country music. Covers Tim's really low voice as well as beatboxing. Another good advice if you only want low notes is Misty mountains Tim does with another artist. That is what I call low notes.
The biggest rule for going down the Home Free rabbit hole is to save "Mayday" for when you KNOW the guys and their usual roles. If you do this, the "Mayday ready" experience is INCREDIBLE.
Tim Faust, the bass, collaborated with Peter Hollens to do "misty mountains" Tim, does what Tim does best and it shows his bass notes extremely well...
Home Free bass singer Tim Foust is a close friend of Avi's. Tim can hit those low growl bass notes with ease, and he actually gave Avi some lessons on that which actually helped Avi's own range get more diverse. I always loved the visual in this video at the very end, after Tim hits that low note, where you can see a smiling Avi take off his signature beanie and replace it with the cowboy hat! Avi was soon to reach a point in his life where he would go thru a lot of personal issues that led to his eventual departure from Pentatonix, so just seeing him enjoying himself in this collaboration with his friend does my old heart good. Avi is a really decent guy who didn't deserve all the negativity he would soon have to deal with.

Well, lessee... Home Free has been around for 20 years. Founded by Chris and Adam Rupp of Minnesota. I think the group copied the name of their dad's boat. Rob Lundquist is also from Minnesota. Other current and former members tend to be from the South. The group hit it big around 2013 when they won a TV singoff the year after Pentatonix won it. Tenor 1 is Austin Brown. I've had the opportunity to see Home Free a few times seeing how I live in Minnesota and they're from here. While I hear some people call out this is a studio recording they are very close to the same level of harmony. Each member of the group is very skilled so when they collaborate with others it's easy to blend them in.
Those of us who have loved HF take delicious pleasure in watching articulate people "discover" this group. It's like secretly watching a first date! Forgive our voyeurism (though that's the point, isn't it?), but know that you did not disappoint. Wonderful reaction!

Tim Foust's range is usually listed as A0-A5, with rumors that he can go even lower; "Honey, I'm Good" showcases tenor Rob Lundquist (dark beard); Austin Brown was the tenor soloist in this song. Beatboxer and founding member Adam Rupp only sings very short solos but does sing harmony parts when beatboxing is inappropriate; Adam Chance joined the group after this video came out, and is listed as the baritone because he can "only" get down to A1. Chance is the lead on "Cover Me Up," and successfully proposed to his girlfriend at the end of the video.
For Rob, you absolutely must watch End of the Road, it will make you fall in love with him! Another one of my absolute favorites is Mayday, it's one I watch over and over. Usually I'd recommend that you wait to watch that one until you are a couple videos in and know them a little better (you'll understand why). Blue Ain't Your Color is another one that really shows off all their voices, and it's a fun take on the song. They also have a ton that show off their fun side like Butt's Remix and All About that Bass. And of course, now that it is getting to the holiday season: Do You Hear What I Hear? is brilliantly arranged by Adam Rupp, and filmed miles from where I live in MN, and showcases all their best attributes. Oh, I can't believe I forgot to mention some of their great "quarantine" videos: Quarantine, Meet in the Middle, Moonshine, Sunday Best and Down to the Honkytonk. They are also some of my favorites, especially since they are such high quality for being across the states and not together.
you wanna see rob (guy in glasses) do his thing need to check their Boys to Men cover End of the Road. these guys dont just do country they cover pop, R&B, country, etc. Tim the bass has a 5 octave range.
Agree with Man of Constant Sorrow, also Folsom Prison Blues. One of the things I like about this group, if there's an ego among them I don't see it. They take turns shining and the result is evident. Glad you found them and glad I found you! The first of your reactions and I loved it.
Great reaction and welcome to the deep rabbit hole that is Home Free. This is one of the older songs they did on the tv show sing off. Home Free as you see is an A Cappella group and considered a country group. But, they do all kinds of songs. Adam Rupp is the world champion beat boxer. Austin Brown is the amazing tenor, Rob with the beard is also an amazing tenor. Chris Rupp, Adam's brother went on to leave the band and was replaced by Adam Chance or just known as Chance. Tim Foust is the basso profundo with a real 6 octave range and that last note was a G zero or very low. Songs: All about the Bass, 7 Bridges Road, Man of Constant Sorrow, Helplessly Hoping, Folsom Prison Blues and so many more, they sing country, pop, rock, medleys, gospel and christmas songs. Tim and the Band sing with other groups and performers constantly. Tim does Misty Mountains with Peter Hollens. Home Free does many songs as covers, some originals etc, but also will sing with the original band or solo artists. Thanks for sharing, great reaction, Chris
They're cover of "End of the Road" is unbelievable! I honestly might like it as much if not more then the original! And Rob (Guy with the Beard) kills the lead!
Megan, the guy with the glasses and big beard is Rob Lundquist. He is lead on their cover of Boys ll Men's, End of the Road, and he will blow you away. The high tenor on this one is Austin Brown. He also shares the lead in the End of The Road video as well, and they both share the lead in the Man of Constant Sorrow. The bass is Tim Foust and has an incredible 5 octave range. The beat boxer is Adam Rupp, and co-founder of the band, with his brother Chris in the cowboy hat, who left the group in 2016. They started Home Free while in college 20 years ago in Minnesota. Chris was replaced by Adam Chance, and goes by Chance in the band as to not to be confused with Adam, the beat boxer. Imo, Home Free has the richest harmonies of any band on the planet. Fans of Home Free are known as Home Fries, and there is no doubt you will become one too, if you continue to react to their magnificent body of work. My personal favorite is their version of How Great Thou Art, recorded in the Austrian Alps.
Hi Megan, One song by Home Free that features Rob Lundquist (the guy with the beard and glasses) is End of the Road, a Boys to Men cover. Rob really displays a load of soul in this one. Enjoy!
Loved the reaction. There is a cameo in the video for the Home Free original "Champaign Taste on a Beer Budget". Check out the mechanical bull at the end of the video. Asking who the leader is for Home Free is kind of like asking who the leader of Pentatonix is - there really isn't one. The group included brothers Adam Rupp (world class beatboxer) and Chris Rupp (who's also in this video). Chris left the group amicably and has a solo career. He was replaced by Adam Chance (who goes by "Chance" to avoid confusion with Adam Rupp). Home Free was the winner of the singing competition show "The Sing Off" the year after Pentatonix won it and launched their rise to fame. I've heard they adopted the country genre as a recommendation from the producers of that show and it's done them well but, they cover a whole lot of other genres as well. They're obviously friendly with Pentatonix as well as the band Voiceplay (who I'm sure you'll get around to as well) and there are some videos out comparing the bass singers of the 3 groups to see who can go lowest by showing clips from various performances.. This group has a lot of fun in some of their videos (like the one mentioned above). Another of their most-loved videos is "Man of Constant Sorrow" where you can see Adam Chance. When you watch that one, just keep reminding yourself that all the sounds are made by the people. You'll hear things and say "nuh uh". After that, I'm sure you'll get a list of songs from other fans (known as "home fries").
Check out their cover of How Great Thou Art, shot in the Austrian Alps with a lot of drone shots. The song and the visuals are stunning. I also recommend the a capella group Voctave, start off with their Disney Love Medley, featuring Kirstin from PTX and her then-fiancee. And Voiceplay, maybe start out with their cover of the Oogie Boogie Song. (Their bass, Geoff Castelucci, will blow you away)
Welcome to Home Free. They are amazing. You'll like them all, but let me suggest, Seven Bridges Road, My Church, Take Me Home Country Roads, and Love Train. Just to name a few.
Just found your channel today. Everyone that is making suggestions are spot on. I'm sure we are all looking forward to your new journey into the world of a capella. Love the reactions.
Welcome to Home Free! Like PTX, there is a lot to listen to with this group! Tim, their bass has a 5 octave range. Man of constant sorrow, How Great Thou Art, Moana medley, Little Mermaid Medley and End of the Road are great choices and only then their beauty Mayday! Keep em coming!
So glad you liked them. They're a great bunch of guy's who really love what they do. They're all good friends and most of the time of there are extras it's family and friends. They can sing anything from humorous, serious, pop, soul of gospel. For a contrast try comparing these three. For humor try Champagne on a Beer budget....little cameo in that onne. For serious try Helplessly Hoping originally by Crosby, Stills and Nash. For gospel try How Great Thou Art. Earlier videos have Chris Rupp with them ... Cowboy hat. He left to pursue other things and Adam Chance aka Chan joined as baritone/bass usually ball cap. Enjoy. Thanks for a great reaction. God bless and stay safe
Hi Megan. Welcome down the Home Free rabbit hole. I think you’ll find you really enjoy this group. They are amazing and funny too. The guy in the glasses is Rob Lundquist. He sings mostly Tenor Harmonies, but he does sing Lead or Co Lead. The Bass is Tim Foust. The beat boxer is Adam Rupp and in the Ring of Fire video, his brother Chris, (Who formed the group in 2000), sings harmonies. He left in 2014 to persue other projects. He was replaced by Adam Chance who sings baritone harmonies. Austin Brown is the Lead Tenor. To hear Rob singing Lead, listen/watch the groups cover of End of the Road by Boys to men. Wait until you’ve watched a few of their videos before you watch their cover of Mayday by CAM. Enjoy. Hope to see more of your reactions.
The beatboxer is Adam Rupp. He and his brother, Chris, (cowboy hat here) founded “Home Free” in 2001 when they were in college. Chris left for his solo career in 2016, so if you see more recent videos-the baritone is Adam Chance (aka “Chance”-to differentiate between he and Adam Rupp). Adam Rupp is the two-time beatboxing world champion. He’s amazing. And FYI. “Home Free” won the “Sing-Off” the year after Pentatonix did!
These guys won the show "The Sing Off" the year after Pentatonix won. Their rendition of "Man of Constant Sorrow" is incredible, but my favorites of theirs are "Butt Medley", and "Champagne Taste (On A Beer Budget)".
Home Free has a massive following and repertoire. They sing mostly country followed by Christmas, pop and gospel. They don't have a lead singer. All of them lead in various songs. "How Great Thou Art" has the beat boxer singing. "Butts Remix" is fun. "Country Fried Pop" puts their own spin on multiple pop songs. "Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget" is a fun original. "All About That Bass" got accolades from the original recording artist for respectful fun and creativity. Their live "9 to 5" showcases all of them beat boxing. They cooperate/collaborate with other groups. You'll like "Elvira" with the 'Oakridge Boys'. Several who aren't "into" country find themselves enjoying Home Free. They also competed on a show for such groups a season after Pentatonix...they won.
Avi Kaplan is good, but I love how he capitulates to the "Country boys" at the end, and changes his beanie to a cowboy hat :) Tim Foust's last DEEP LONG note shook the judges in The Sing Off... Heck, they all are amazing! :)
Home Free began in 2000. They've been around for a bit now... The other person doing the really low note at the end of the song is Tim Foust, he is one of very few who can hit the "G1"Note also knows as a "Growl-Note"
Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole :) The Home Fries, as we fans of Home Free are called will be here soon. Other covers of theirs to check out are : the gospel hymn How Great thou Art, Ed Sheeran's Castle on the Hill, Blue Ain't your Color a Keith Urban song, their cover of John Denver's Country Roads is unlike anything you've ever heard before, and you'll hear Rob (big guy with glasses clearly in that one, Sawyer Brown's Some Girls Do, and my favorite cover they've done, Thomas Rhett's Die A Happy Man. it's ultra romantic. but also highly recommended - My Church, End of the Road, and a few of their originals.... Dive Bar Saints, When you walk in & Why Not ?
After this one, my next two favorites are "Man of Constant Sorrow" and "Fulsom Prison Blues". Pentatonix and Home Free are very good friends. The both won a season of The Sing Off.
Welcome to Home Free! They are so talented. Try End of the Road or Blue Ain’t you Color if you want to hear Rob, (beard and glasses). Try Folsom Prison Blues, Man of Constant Sorrow to hear more of Tim (super low bass). Austin is the high tenor and has curly reddish hair, Adam is the beatboxer extraordinaire and has blondish hair. And Chris is a tenor (with the cowboy hat). Chris left the group in 2016 and was replaced by Chance who is a baritone/bass. Chance has a 4 octave range. Tim, the bass, has a 5 octave range. He is amazing and actually taught Avi to sing lower. They are both so good. Tim and Avi both collaborated with Peter Hollens, another ‘a cappella’ singer on different songs. Tim does Misty Mountains with Peter and it’s amazing. Avi does Black is the Color of My True Loves Hair with Peter. So beautiful. Home Free won the show Sing Off in 2013 - the year after Pentatonix won. Both are great groups. Keep reacting. Try Helplessly Hoping, How Great Thou Art.
Welcome to Home Free! There are so many good songs to suggest! You have 4 lead singers who switch off here and a really wonderful beat boxer. Try their cover of Meet in the Middle and an original... Catch Me if You Can is one of my favorites. Thanks! ^_^
I watched an interview with Tim Faust (Bass) who indicated he liked singing in the higher octaves, I believe he said he can play with the runs. I'm not a professional either, can't even carry a note if I had a bucket, but love acapella. The bass singers have always be my favorite. Keep it up gurl, I just found your channel two weeks ago and have enjoyed every one of your reactions, mostly due to Dimash ☺
They cover End of the Road... the guy with the glasses, Rob, will knock your socks off! For more of the bass, Tim, check out their cover of Folsom Prison Blues. For more of the tenor you liked here that has the curly hair you mentioned, Austin, check out their cover of Moonshine.
I see that many of the "Home Fries" have recommended many of Home Free's songs (they have over a hundred on UA-cam) but just for fun, you should also watch some of their live performances, especially when they go off-script or just plain old mess up. Some suggested ones are "Storytime with Tim" (especially the Whip/Nae Nae one), the "Guilty Pleasures" ones, and the "Colder Weather" one where Austin forgets the words. Most of these are "fan cams" and some are not great quality, but the humor and good time had by the group make up for most of it. There are also many collaborations with other groups/individuals by one or all of them and their wives and friends. A beautiful one is "Proud To Be An American" with the songwriter Lee Greenwood and the USAF band "The Singing Sergeants".
For some Rob's whistle (the guy with the beard) and Tim's (the bass) vocals : "My baby got champagne taste" For a good mash-up of their voices and incredible beatbox by Adam Rupp : "Man of Constant Sorrow" For a wonderful adaptation with really good solo from both bass Tim Foust and Adam Chance : "Folsom Prison Blue" For some Yodel from Austin Brown (The one you said should be lead singer) : "Thanks god I'm a country boy" For really funny videos with a good mashup of all their talents : "All about that bass", "Honey I'm good" and "Hillbilly Bone" For mashups : "The Butts remix" and "country fried pop medley" And outside of Home Free, Tim Foust's collabs with Peter Hollens are ALL good. ALL ! MUST SEE ! And if you want a bit of fun with a ton of Bass, "22 times Tim Foust went subwoofer mode"
If you enjoy Avi Kaplan you should check out some of his solo stuff. He's put out an album recently with all original stuff. Lots of good listening there
Austin is the "Curly haired" man. I highly recommend their cover of "End of the Road", Rob, the Bearded man in glasses is Amazing. If you love Pentatonix, you will also love Home Free.
Love your reaction. I stumbled onto them a year ago and now they fulfill all my music and entertainment needs. They do covers and originals. Everytime i want to suggest a song i think of an even better one. Please keep on delving. They make you laugh and they make you cry. They really impressed me with their quarentine output. Kept all of us sane. Every single one of them could have a stunning solo career and they do have projects on the side, but together they just knock your socks off. Do yourself a favour and make a selectiion from their channel Whatever you choose we'll be here to watch your reaction
That is Rob with the Glasses and Beard. Rob is the other lead Tenor, he really shines in the Groups version of Boys to Men End of the Road. A definite to check out!. Love your Reactions!
Great reaction and welcome to the Home Free Rabbit hole. They are awesome. I suggest listening to Maren Morris's My Church cover by Home Free. It really shows them all off nicely really. The newest member Adam Chance is best heard in Folsom Prison Blues, Rob can be heard best in Honey I'm Good Another great one is "Everybody Walkin' This Land ..so awesome. Have fun!
I believe that quick clip at the end of Avi swapping his beanie for a cowboy hat is the proverbial tip of the cap to Tim's sustain on that G1 note. "Ya got me on that one, partner." Lol
You should listen to them singing, Go Rest High on That Mountain, (Vince Gill song), and also find them singing Amazing Grace. I think you'll enjoy both of those alot and it shows all of them alot better and their ranges. I love all the stuff they do ! Enjoy !
Their cover of"Man of Constant Sorrow " is a big favorite.
Good call, and it also highlights Rob Lundquist, who she asked about in this video.

Home free man of constant sorrow
Spelled “CHAMPAGNE”. After the Champagne region of France.
You definitely need to check out more of Home Free and Voiceplay!!!!
Keep em coming!
amazing grace you can hear all the voieces
Love all of your reactions , they are awesome in every way.
Rob, guy in the glasses....you want solo....End of the Road cover or Blue Ain't Your Color cover! Love these guys and love Avi. Great reaction!
AHHHHH A new reactor to watch! Pls react to more Home Free they are my favorite!
Love, love this song! One of my faves is “Champagne Taste On a Beer Budget.” It’s just a fun video and Avi has a cameo in it. Greetings from Florida.
I enjoyed your reaction. The guy in the glasses is Rob. He take an excellent lead in the cover of the Boys to Men " End of the road". He kills it.
Avi Kaplan is good, but I love how he capitulates to the "Country boys" at the end, and changes his beanie to a cowboy hat :)
Tim Foust's last DEEP LONG note shook the judges in The Sing Off... Heck, they all are amazing! :)
Home Free began in 2000. They've been around for a bit now... The other person doing the really low note at the end of the song is Tim Foust, he is one of very few who can hit the "G1"Note also knows as a "Growl-Note"
Austin Brown is the High tenor for Home Free, the beat boxer is Adam Rupp a founding member of Home Free.
End of the road, mayday and when a man loves a woman are my top three covers by home free. You won’t regret my choices I promise you
5:35 I was waiting for the ten thousand comments saying to check out End of the Road Boys to Men Home Free Cover ...he is AMAZING on that song
Welcome to Home Free! There are so many good songs to suggest! You have 4 lead singers who switch off here and a really wonderful beat boxer. Try their cover of Meet in the Middle and an original... Catch Me if You Can is one of my favorites. Thanks! ^_^
Helplessly hoping is also a great one to listen to.
"Man of Constant Sorrow" and "Helplessly Hoping" (Crosby, Stills & Nash) my favorite.
Adam Rupp, the beat-boxer does a "drum solo" live that showcases just how incredibly talented he is. Check it out!
*hears Avi* “hey Avi 🥰”
Hehe waiting for her same reaction to Tim in future Home Free videos 😎
I watched an interview with Tim Faust (Bass) who indicated he liked singing in the higher octaves, I believe he said he can play with the runs. I'm not a professional either, can't even carry a note if I had a bucket, but love acapella. The bass singers have always be my favorite. Keep it up gurl, I just found your channel two weeks ago and have enjoyed every one of your reactions, mostly due to Dimash ☺
Thank you!
They cover End of the Road... the guy with the glasses, Rob, will knock your socks off! For more of the bass, Tim, check out their cover of Folsom Prison Blues. For more of the tenor you liked here that has the curly hair you mentioned, Austin, check out their cover of Moonshine.
Love the reaction! Please react to Home Free’s Man of Constant Sorrows.
nice reaction, Man of Constant Sorrow gets my vote for next song as well.
"Black is the color of my true love's hair" for more Avi goodness!
They are pretty great in person, with their personalities and camaraderie shining through.
For some Rob's whistle (the guy with the beard) and Tim's (the bass) vocals : "My baby got champagne taste"
For a good mash-up of their voices and incredible beatbox by Adam Rupp : "Man of Constant Sorrow"
For a wonderful adaptation with really good solo from both bass Tim Foust and Adam Chance : "Folsom Prison Blue"
For some Yodel from Austin Brown (The one you said should be lead singer) : "Thanks god I'm a country boy"
For really funny videos with a good mashup of all their talents : "All about that bass", "Honey I'm good" and "Hillbilly Bone"
For mashups : "The Butts remix" and "country fried pop medley"
And outside of Home Free, Tim Foust's collabs with Peter Hollens are ALL good. ALL !
Do yourself a favour and make a selectiion from their channel
Whatever you choose we'll be here to watch your reaction
the guy with a beard and glasses is Rob, i reallyreally love him in "Catch me if You can"
The beat boxer is Adam Rupp, you should hear his 7 minute solo. He plays an invisible drum set and his timing between hand and sound is 100% perfect.
That is Rob with the Glasses and Beard. Rob is the other lead Tenor, he really shines in the Groups version of Boys to Men End of the Road. A definite to check out!. Love your Reactions!
Man of constant sorrow, Misty mountain, when a man loves a woman, and many more.
You wanted to hear Rob, the man in the glasses, sing lead on a song. Check out Home Free's cover of Boys to Men "End of the Road"
Reaction to that low note. Tim has gone almost a full octive under that. he has blown subwoofers.
End of the Road features the guy in glasses.. will make you cry
Home Free is a great group and adding Avi is a bonus. Tim, the bass, can break sound systems and to hear the bearded Rob, check out End of the Road
You should listen to them singing, Go Rest High on That Mountain, (Vince Gill song), and also find them singing Amazing Grace. I think you'll enjoy both of those alot and it shows all of them alot better and their ranges. I love all the stuff they do ! Enjoy !
Their cover of “Go Rest High on That Mountain” is absolutely gorgeous!
Love them.
"End of The Road" really shows Rob's vocals (the bearded guy).
Good call!
Great reaction Ms. Friday, hope you and your family are well and ate too much turkey.
I think you'd love Oogie Boogie Song by VoicePlay for a super entertaining and versatile bass performance!
The guy you want to hear, listen to Go Rest Hi on that Mountain.
