That’s exactly how I put springs in. Bill( guys playing with tools) made a neat tool for winding springs

Nothing like having assorted parts around to do the job. You made rewinding the cord look easy 🙂
I am not sure why but each time it is different. I don't mean the make of the rewind but each time it either goes easy or more difficult.
@@BrucesShop Same for all of us. I never seem to have the camera on when one goes on really easy. LOL
Great old machines those are. I remember fighting with one of those HR214 recoil units for the better part of a weekend before realizing that the plastic spring holder was cracked. Every time it had tension from the spring on it the crack would open up and let the spring go, I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong to make the spring unwind lol!

Reminds me of earlier this summer when a customer brought me a recoil with the spring tangled like a ball of yarn. I had to put a new inner hook on the end of the spring. After I wound it into the spool, when I turned it upside down and attempted to insert it into the groove, it took a few tries. When it finally slid home, we both looked at each other with extreme relief. After that it was simple. I don’t like handling those springs and safety is top priority!

By jove Bruce you got it.I have a few echo tools in all had bad springs two broke the others lost tensile strength.Awaiting a big lot of Stihl non runners to fix for a buddy of mine.And hopefully his mate has some for me flat out at moment.All the best to you all.

@@BrucesShop wow I'm in my garage working in 104 heat index on a honda eb3500x generator changing out oil drain bolt and wasn't coming out with impact Bosch anyway light came on and did what bruce would I hit it clockwise then counter clockwise and it broke free Thanks sir for your tips sir

Yes at least they are fixable.
I keep the bug repellent right next to the carb cleaner. At least I don’t have John Klem sized mosquitos. His are buzzard size.

i was a preteen the first time i wrestled w/one of those springs on a briggs or maybe a clinton engine . taught me a lot , mostly ugly words .
