Fleshing knives, or maybe cheese cutters? Hmm. I just saw my oldest knife is a steam boat stamp picture in front of ERNST ROTTGEN SOLINGEN- GERMANY. A 10 inch chef knife perfectly petinaed full flat grind. I smoothed the dusty finish off tonight to find an extremely fine grain black, red tone wood. Nearly perfect. My grand parents came from germany around 1900z. They were born 1890 and 1895. Sorta nifty find!
Hey George, Great bit of restoration work buddy 😎👍🏻 I’m pretty sure the other blade would have been used for chopping herbs on a wooden cutting board. Thanks for the look brother 😎👍🏻
I know it's not a Ulu for sure. Now you say that it makes sense. A herb cutter hmmmm. Well it's now going to be big brother to the leather pizza thingee.. lol. Thanks for watching. I appriciate the support. Be safe
Yep. Gives it some character. Worked out pretty well. Like doing these little projects. Thanks for watching always appriciate your support. You be safe out there.
I turned an antiqueish pizza roller cutter into a round press. And the handle and frame became a camp saw with a sawzall 8 inch remodel blade that shook too much for arther wrists! I used a couple old USA carbide machinist drill bits to drill thru blade for Anchor bolt and a hole thru hand guard for blade prong to lock in. Better than a 50.00 might work chance buy. I refinished the wood just like you would. By hand!
there hard to find here in pa the hash knife your chuck wagon cooks would use them alot for everything like spatchulas to cutting meat and potatos its the only knife i carry when i go fishing
What you have isn't a Ulu. It's an Italian Mezzaluna. Very similar to the Ulu but not as old. Used to cut pizzas, originally. Currently used even at Taco Bell but designed more like the traditional Ulu.
Uhuh, 👍 thanks for the info. Now I know what I'm dealing with...it will be my home pizza cutter for sure. Thanks for the info and support. Much appriciated
ps ulus aremade from an old saw blades there easy to make the hash knife is a collectible and depending on the stamp on iit you can sell it for 5 times the money you paid forit ive seen them go for 100 dollers
@@2ndchancegeorge I just got a couple saw blades and I can make you one real quick if you want the Hulu I mean the really really really easy to make and you only sharpened on one side one side space flat
@@wiseraven2000 hmmm. If you cut one with just the basic shape that would be good. If you go to my hame page a little down is a email link. I'll pay for it. Let me know. Thanks
just a question when working with leather have you ever thought of sewing everything together then when sewn then do your first soak out your object in the sheath and let it dry so then the leather will shrink to the object shap just wondering
@@wiseraven2000 no but I think I might just try it. Will be working another Opinel mod and the sheath will be special for the blade shape. Gonna have to see. Thankyou.
Nice! Your new handle is awesome! Reminds me of old handmade fishing bobbers, the folk-arty ones people collect.
Lol...when I was done I looked at it and thought the same thing. Be safe my dear
