I got a name for your new channel: CRAPENTRY. It’s what we call pretty much everything I build out of 2x4s and cheap knotty warped plywood. I even have a tagline: Measure: NEVER! Cut: MOST OF THE WAY THRU!
Just called my local distributor of Formica products. A 4' x 8' sheet of that Formica Compact (S7 - 3/4") is $828 🤯 10% off still won't be enough for me to buy some, although it does look *amazing*. Nice build!
Can we just take a moment to acknowledge that you're the first UA-cam woodworking personality to get a new table saw that ISN'T a SawStop in at least the last 5 years?
Those are some REALLY nice tables. Overkill or not, call it what you like, it's your shop, they're your tables and it's your video. We all sat here and watched it, so none of us can complain about how you did it. After all, it's your shop and they're your tables. ...but I already pointed that out.
@@notjamesiha At the end of the day we have to remember this is his channel and his wood that he buys. With his own money that he makes. Granted there are probably huge write-offs one could make having a successful UA-cam channel, but I digress. And, you can use any materials you can afford, I am going to make these since I have a 1 car garage workshop. I have good debth, but lack in width. It will be nice to use them when needed and move them against the wall when not in use.
For those asking, I got a price sheet on that Formica Compact product from a distributor. 3/4" thick is $26.40/sq. ft. That's about $850 per 4x8 sheet.
@jesseleal1388 you can send an inquiry via the "contact us" link on the Formica website, and they'll email you contact info for the closest distributor. You call them, and they'll have a salesperson contact you with info. In my case, my salesperson emailed me a data sheet and price list. I don't think the stuff is available through any normal retail channel. Also, it's made to order with a lead time of 3 weeks.
That's crazy expensive for a workshop work surface that's going to get beat to snot. I found another site selling phenolic tops called SSI Surfaces that sells a 30" x 48" black top for $235 with free shipping. They have variable lengths for different prices. It's a little less per square foot than the Formica price and you don't have to commit to such a huge panel if you just need to cover one or two worktops. I would imagine getting a distributor or retailer to customer cut and sell the formica stuff would at least double the square foot cost.
I love the tables! I have been struggling on what to do with an outfeed table for a while now. This is exactly what I need to to do. Thank you for all the inspiration. I'm currently working on getting my garage workshop organized and functional again after building a new house almost 5 years ago.

I have watched this whole series so far, and despite being presented as tips or ideas for setting up any “small shop,” I can’t help but think with every video that this series isn’t for most people who are just getting started in woodworking and are setting up their own small space. It has consistently come off as a series for a small group of people who have the capacity to sacrifice their entire two car garage (a space that is a luxury in itself) and build out a fully loaded, but compact, version of a nearly professional shop. The hand tools and clamps are into the thousands of dollars. The dust collection system is thousands of dollars. Each of the power tools, from small to large, are thousands of dollars. The material cost in this build is several hundred dollars. Everything in this “small” shop is some of the most expensive equipment a “hobbyist” can buy. This space and the items in it are far beyond the reach of someone just starting out in a “small” space. I don’t understand who this series is meant for except those with an unlimited budget and an empty two car garage.
