Well well we were just hanging out with y’all earlier now I’m looking for pear preserves videos and I saw your name and grabbed it up …good idea for dehydrating the peels #blessings
Hi GG. Called my Sister today to get some Pears from her CT 6b Tree. Just wanted you to know that my 8 generations Never used Lemon in their Preserves. I have Messed some up when I was much younger bc I got the Sugar Ratio backwards the 1st time, AND I did not let them sit overnight like they told me.🤣🤣🤣 I forgot that part. The overnight was to make to Pears a Darker Brown when canned. Duh. Glad Mommie & my 2 Aunties are still there for me Research😘🙌🏾. 💜💜💜Hugs. Auntie Ellen🤟🏽
That is awesome exactly the way my mom makes her pear preserves. Never used lemon and let the pears sit under the sugar overnight! She never water bathed them either… just got cooked them and jarred them really hot. They seal and stay in the cabinet 🤷🏽♀️ Absolutely delicious! 😉
I really enjoyed the way you explained each step of how to get the pears ready, to how you showed how it is going to look when it is finished was very awesome...I subscribed...thank you. I tried a couple of times, the first time what was in the jars was as hard as candy, the second time, it was more like a chutney....I believe this time I will be successful! Love to you and your family....
Hi! Enjoyed your video! How many pounds of pears did you use to the 4 cups of sugar? I apologize if I missed it in the video. I went back and could not find it. I see that’s about 8 or 9 pears, but in cups, not sure what that is. Thank you for your help and sharing! Cannot wait to get started 😃
Angela let me just be honest and say that was too much sugar!😂 I use to eat a lot more sugar and now it is super sweet to me. It has been a long time since I made some so I don’t remember how many lbs that was. Once you start you will want to can everything in sight lol.
@@GGNaturals I too have cut down on the sugar, lol. I ended up making some spiced pears. I diced them up and let them sit in sugar and spices for two days, covered in the fridge (because I did not have time the same day to can). They smelled wonderful, before during and after I cooked them. I cooked them 30 minutes, let them boil for another15 mins while constantly stirring, water bathed them according to Balls handbook. They are beautiful! I decided to open a jar, and they were so delicious BUT, they were quite firm. :( I figured with all that cooking they would have been softer. I only used 1 cup of regular sugar and 1 cup of the Turbinado sugar (did not have enough of the regular sugar), I used small amounts of spices about 1/8th tsp, maybe less, ground fenugreek seed (has a slight maple taste, but also earthy), cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander, cardamom, turmeric, allspice, clove and vanilla. They are so good! And after that I had to can more fruits, I have done some orange-flavored fig preserves, raspberry(No Seeds) spread and spiced blackberry spread (fully loaded with seeds, lol). I caught the bug and now I look up all kinds of things to can, well fruits until I become brave enough to try something more complex. I have so enjoyed myself and so happy I found your channel! Thank you for being an inspiration! God Bless!
@@angelabibler9986 that sounds amazing! Even the blackberry one lol! I look forward to canning a larger variety of fruit. Pressure canning is a different but still awesome monster. It helps you with variety of food you can store for harder times ahead. I’m glad to have you my channel as well. Have a beautiful week😁
@@angelabibler9986 This was so helpful!! 🙏🏾 Im getting ready to soak in sugar but my jars are being delivered tomorrow. I was so nervous about not having them the day of lol so now i know i can just leave it in the fridge for tomorrow and i'm adding my spices!!!!🥰🥰
I love your recipe! My aunt always made pears that looked like yours! My trees are blessed with bushels, so I'm going to be canning lots of pear preserves, and sharing pears! What recipes do you use your pears preserves for?
Interesting about eating the beach skin. What about itchy peach fuzz? Peach skin probably doesn't have much fuzz these days.😃 I love the idea of making snacks with the peel or skin as we said as kids.😂
Mama got a case of pears and apples from the pantry so thinking I will water bath can preserves for my family and friends , last year we did mango jam ☮️❤️💡
My Sister has the Biggest Pear Tree ever in CT 6b. All the Best Pears are way at the top where nobody can get to them. We mostly use the ones that fall off. 💜💜💜
People use to bring my mom bags of pear so she can make preserves but lately she hasn’t gotten as many. I will definitely be providing her with some when mine starts to produce so she can keep her hands busy. 😊
I am certain it will work with a steam canner since it's just another way of water bath canning. That is definitely how you should begin then pressure can afterwards! Once you do it once, you will feel like an old pro😂🌻🦋
Hi I got some pears from my brother in laws tree they were moving anyway can I freeze them until I get my canner and everything else to do them with I'm on a fixed income.
I loved the pear preserve my nana used to make she’s gone now.. times goes so fast I should have taken the time to learn how to make them. Just alway thought she’d be around. :( Thanks for showing me how you prepare them.
My pleasure Joy, that really touched my heart. I’m definitely trying to learn all I can from my Mom while she is still here. When we are young a lot of times we are unfocused on all the skills and knowledge they have. God bless 🙏🏽🌹
Saving this one as a reference. I just planted a pear tree. Nice video. I see a dehydrator in my future. lol
Awesome, thank you!🙌🏾 I want a better dehydrator! This one was ok to start but I need a more grown up one now😂
It's great you have the experience of learning a past down skill from multiple generations ago.
It really is! Life is really short, so we have to take advantage of those opportunities if available. 🌻🦋
Exactly the recipe I was searching for! My mom in Mississippi always made these in our childhood. I so appreciate this!!!
@@teresacesario6247 my pleasure 💕
I Love watching you Can. Brings back Memories.💜💜💜
I really enjoy it! I’m going to do some more strawberries and a few others next. We are just about out LOL. Have a great night Auntie Ellen❤️💜

It was amazing with homemade buttermilk biscuits! TFW 😊
GG. Can I use the regular sugar we have or do I need to use cane sugar?
Yes you can use the sugar you have on hand. I just always buy the cane sugar or dark brown sugar.

Hello. You sure can but be sure they are thawed out before canning them. 🙏🏽
What’s in the bottom of your canner ?
A rack to keep the jars off the bottom of the canner. The risk of cracking is very high when they sit on the bottom.
I loved the pear preserve my nana used to make she’s gone now.. times goes so fast I should have taken the time to learn how to make them. Just alway thought she’d be around. :(

@@GGNaturals 💜
I’m not going to use lemon juice. That’s probably why my mom’s pear preserves were caramel colored Yum.
@@teresacesario6247 agreed!
How long did you cook it in the stove
I usually just bring them to a boil. If the pears are really, firm I may cook them 10-15 minutes or to soften them up a little. Thanks for watching 🙏🏽
