Happy Saturday everyone! Something a bit different today! I've not done a tutorial in a long time, and I thought I'll do something easy. Turns out Android TV has changed a lot in the last year or two and Nest have totally bollocksed up their Android TV app so this was an utter nightmare to achieve 🤣 Easy to replicate though now I've gone through that pain so I hope this one helps you all out! I've got a reliable Aeon motion sensor at my front door that never false triggers. I just set an Alexa routine which basically goes 'if sensor triggers, then tell alexa to show me the front door camera'. The feed then pops up on my lounge echo show.
I've just done this with my ezviz cctv camera is there an easier way to find out your field point ? Also just to note when I opened the APK tasker after installing it told me it wouldn't work unless purchased from Google play store so don't know if things have changed since thus video was made 🙂 Ps is there anyway to ask tasker to change your HDMI channel so if your not watching anything on say your shield but on something else .. it Will change to your shield and load the camera app ?

This is one of the best and most clear instructional setup videos I have ever seen. You missed your calling as a corporate trainer. Well done. I am curious though, certainly you didn’t learn all these disparate programs to link together by trial and error and inspiration, so my question to you is where did you get the procedures from that you based this video on? If it’s been too long to remember or you are too busy to answer anyway, well done. I don’t know how well this video aged, most technical software videos don’t age well past the first software update, but since the utube algorithm is recommending this video, you might want to check and see if the steps are all still correct.

I did actually learn all this stuff by trying to find ways around the ridiculous mess of the home automation world for years before things started to get a bit more straight forward.
Yes. here I am nearly 2 years later looking at this tutorial. Thats because I have finally purchased a Video doorbell, The Aqara G4. Any chance you could do something like this with Home assistant, as a tutorial? Also Tasker is a paid for product and i dont think you mentioned that in this video. Obviously, they may have started to charge for it, but is there anything free we could use instead. Thanks

This is a great tutorial. I have smartthings multipurpose sensors that go off when I have a knock at the door and it tells all my echos that someone is knocking at the door. With this I should be able to load up my regular cameras that work with smart home etc, sweet. Now when my robovac bumps the front door, not only will the army of echos shout at me but my TV with show me nobody outside 🤣 I do turn the notification off when she's hoovering

@@paulhibbert how you finding the image on your Philips TV? We have the philips 58pus8545 12, it seems to struggle with black images making it quite "blocky" :-/
No obvious blockiness, but I find it a bit high contrast. When watching my own videos I am always shocked at how dark my skin tone looks, but I don't notice this when watching anything else. 🤔
Can someone help ? All goes well until I get to set the profiles on Traker on mobile phone. As soon as I name the task and search for "Push notifications" I only get "Array push" and not the 2 options that Paul has at 15:12 , I have installed and reinstalled Pushbullet on my phone twice without any resoults. Thanks! :)
Don't have a camera doorbell, just watching for entertainment value (and a little for Tasker curiosity). Question though: are the automated button press coordinates always the same? I guess potentially for this app they are, but what if someone wanted something similar to your tutorial, but launch a different app with different button placement? How would they find the right coordinates?
If I'm not mistaken, the coordinates are counted from top left to bottom right. If you have a lower or higher resolution it could be these coordinates are not for you. You could however check the developer options of that android device to see if there is an option that shows the coordinates. Guess these coordinates are pixel based so you could also do a raw calculation. It's quite a big area where you can click in.
@@TheoWillemse With a little luck there might be an app that can give you the coordinates. I was hoping Paul might add how he got them to his post, as people will likely look there first and it seems like a bit of an oversight for the tutorial not to mention how he obtained them. And agreed, top left to bottom right seems sensible, different resolution would most likely change it for other devices. I also remember a well hidden setting in Android for how much screen elements should be enlarged, which I once used to make everything on my phone a bit smaller. Unfortunately I don't remember the specific setting, but it needed a terminal command so it probably isn't commonly used. In any case, it seems likely that the coordinates can vary.
Trial and error is the only way I've found to do it, just punch some numbers in and then press play in tasker and see where the mouse ends up clicking, repeat the process until the mouse is clicking in the right place 😊
Hi Paul, I know you did this video a while back but I had a number of questions. As a newbie I'm trying to automate some things for my parents home and the idea of being able to have the video doorbell automatically display on the TV for them would be fantastic I understand the basic concepts of what you were putting together - now to my questions. Since a bit of time has passed are any of the steps/tools need to be updated to do this? The TV my parents have is a new Samsung - 55” Class S95B OLED 4K Smart Tizen TV so I assume it has the capability to install the apps you talked about in it's OS. They have a eufy video doorbell. They also don't have an android phone, but they do have an IPAD that can run the eufy app and receive doorbell notifications. Does the tasker app work on an ipad or does it need to be an android phone? I'd love any advice you can give on how to get this automated process started. I'd be happy to buy you a few beers so we can chat - let me know your thoughts. Love all your videos and I hope you have a great new year and look forward to hearing from you soon. Thnx Bob Kresz
Great tutorial video, and shame about Amazon Fire TV sticks not working for this. One minor thing you missed is that you need to set the Nest app to only notify you when someone presses the door bell. Mine is set to notify me when the door bell is pressed or when it sees a person, in which case my TV is going to be flicking to the Nest app way more times than I need it to. I guess some people will learn this the hard way tho! 🙂
Hi good video. In July 2024 you can more simply from Android install the alexa app and attach it to the google nest app and have it shown on your Fire tv when somebody rings or even instruct it to show the camera.

hi paul , i am trying to get the same process via ring door bell (rapid ring app) with NVidia shield , but i can not get the exact coordinates for the click via autoinput . is there an easy way to know the exact coordinates for my scenario ?
Great tutorial!!! I am happy to see you doing these again. Unfortunately I have a iPhone, Roku TV a yes a Bezos Bell (crappy first gen Ring). I am going to have to find a way to sideload on Roku
Excellent tutorial, thank you. I was wondering if this is possible with android media box and if so, what would you recommend (would Google Chromecast 4K with android TV do?).
Great video. Silly question though. Why would you choose to use push bullet to push the Nest notification from your phone if you have the Nest app installed on the Shield...?
Yes, agree. You would think that the Nest App on the TV /Nvidia would get the same notification when the doorbell is depressed, to then show the door camera.
Is there a way to distinguish between different types of notifications within Tasker? Like, for example, getting a notification from a Nest thermostat vs the doorbell camera.
Easy, peasy lemon sq...... 😲 My brain is fried 😵😭 Think ill save my sanity and peep through the curtains instead 😅 A great tutorial for someone I'm sure👍
Paul, the only challenge is you tease being able to do this with any TV and Doorbell. I have an LG TV and a Eufy Doorbell…. Broken! Hahaha! Great tutorial though.
Thanks for figuring all of that out for me! I'd've given it a few hours, then resigned it to the "I'll figure it out later" pile. It's a big pile, mostly Home Assistant related.
So I’ve figured this home assistant part . It goes ; Create- event - ui Action - launch app- google assistant- say - show “camera nam” The part I’d love to figure out is how to get all this to run smoothly in the background.
thx a lot!!!! two questions. 1. field id needs to be changed for me. my nest hello is located 1 page below because of another cameras. can you advise me which x y field is good for me. 2. at the notification, i can’t see the push menu. what am i missing?
Very interesting video. It will sure help a lot of people out. I will still have to keep looking further a bit, as I only have a WebOS TV. At the moment looking into the notifications send through via my Home Assistant installation.
I too have web OS, it’s so useless! I have been reading up on how to hack it, incase that interests you. But anyway, I currently use a chromecast and I think I’ll find a way to get this outcome using that, tasker or ifttt or a combination. Don’t despair, where there’s a will there’s a way.
Hey Paul, I have a quick question your instructions were for the Nest doorbell however, I have a Ring Pro with the Nvidia unit will I need to download and install the Ring App on the Nvidia just like you did for the Nest and if so do you have a link? Thx Jim
I know there is a way to grab the actual stream file by making a Google developers account and tapping into it that way, it would be a quicker startup but probably more complicated. Or the Google assistant has a voice command to open the camera directly that could also be implemented into tasker instead. I think that can only be done with the new Chromecast though.
@@Far_Ken from what I remember it is a standard rtmp stream but the encryption key rotates. Probably better off trying to work the google assistant command into tasker to open it so everything is happy.
Amazon Alexa is the best for home automation, it has the most skills. Also, Google can't add a device to more than 1 room or group; example: kitchen and family room are adjacent to each other and I want the lights in both room to turn off if I say all, as well as independently turning off either room. Alexa is inexpensive so I bought 8 to equip every room with Amazon Alexa for voice control so that I can just ask 'turn off the lights' and the echo in that room knows to turn off those lights and not other lights in the house. Alexa also allows a voice routine to have many alternative phrases. Google app's fonts are really really really tiny for my old eyes.
Hi mate. This is brilliant, I've been looking for a way to convince Mrs it I need to leave the TV permanently on🤪. But seriously I'm assuming you need to have TV permanently on. Or can you get it to turn your TV on first and only when somebody's at home?
Great idea, I can’t leave the TV on either, I intend to use this myself… Having said that and with the caveat that I’ve have only a tiny bit of Tasker experience… You don’t need to leave the TV, the android phone is listening, add an additional step when you launch Nest - “turn the TV and set the TV’s input to the android tv….” Prosit, Craig

Thanks Paul I'll buy you a beer next time your in Blackpool, you'll get 2 for the price of a southern 1 LOL
Nice!! Thanks mate. Really glad it's worked for you! 😊
Really awesome tutorial. Absolutely crazy we have to do it this way.
hi paul , i am trying to get the same process via ring door bell (rapid ring app) with NVidia shield , but i can not get the exact coordinates for the click via autoinput . is there an easy way to know the exact coordinates for my scenario ?
I would like to do this with my Ring door bell app did you figure out yours?
Great tutorial!!! I am happy to see you doing these again. Unfortunately I have a iPhone, Roku TV a yes a Bezos Bell (crappy first gen Ring). I am going to have to find a way to sideload on Roku
I have the exact same setup. If you find a way let me know please.
Man I was literally watching videos about doorbells I want to buy and you post this! Are you reading my mind?
Always. Right now you're thinking "man that's creepy, he should stop reading my mind".
@@paulhibbert oh no he's in my head
Excellent tutorial, thank you. I was wondering if this is possible with android media box and if so, what would you recommend (would Google Chromecast 4K with android TV do?).
Great video. Silly question though. Why would you choose to use push bullet to push the Nest notification from your phone if you have the Nest app installed on the Shield...?
Yes, agree. You would think that the Nest App on the TV /Nvidia would get the same notification when the doorbell is depressed, to then show the door camera.
Love your videos you have a fantastic sense of humor!
Thank you for doing a video that I asked for
Man exasperated by watching advert after he's made me watch 4 adverts already in his UA-cam video!
Here's a new tutorial:
Step 1: press skip ad
Step 2: appreciate the time and effort that went into producing the video.
OMG! I Can't believe Paul Hibert! He should have told us to get UA-cam Premium before watching the video!
Hi Paul, is still working for you?
Hello my lovely Paul, thanks for the video 😄
Awesome.. good to see a tutorial again Paul 👍
Is there a way to distinguish between different types of notifications within Tasker? Like, for example, getting a notification from a Nest thermostat vs the doorbell camera.
Paul! Can you make this camera show in picture in picture so your whole screen isn't blocked? Apple TV can do it which I would hate to switch to
Would love this too, sports mad kids go ape when the video feed appears during matches etc
Hi paul how does this work with ring doorbells i just get an error
Easy, peasy lemon sq......
😲 My brain is fried 😵😭
Think ill save my sanity and peep through the curtains instead 😅
A great tutorial for someone I'm sure👍
Paul, the only challenge is you tease being able to do this with any TV and Doorbell. I have an LG TV and a Eufy Doorbell…. Broken! Hahaha! Great tutorial though.
Thanks for that, can see uses for that beyond just door bells!
Thanks for figuring all of that out for me! I'd've given it a few hours, then resigned it to the "I'll figure it out later" pile. It's a big pile, mostly Home Assistant related.
So I’ve figured this home assistant part .
It goes ;
Create- event - ui
Action - launch app- google assistant- say - show “camera nam”
The part I’d love to figure out is how to get all this to run smoothly in the background.
Imagine using the chapter selection and missing all of the hilarious bits. Plebs.
This is brilliant! Well done ! Is there a work around for someone like myself who uses an apple phone
Hi, love your videos. I have a query. Can I stream my cctv footage to samsung tv. I have a frame.
Does this works for RING too? Or just nest?
is there a good wireless video doorbell that works on pc with no pay walls ?
will this solution work with iPhone?
my easy way was, when button pushed, tell alexa as a command, show me
your way is like a crackhead snorting liquor
Which will of course work great if both your doorbell and your TV have this ability.
What about ring there is no ring app.for android tv
thx a lot!!!! two questions. 1. field id needs to be changed for me. my nest hello is located 1 page below because of another cameras. can you advise me which x y field is good for me. 2. at the notification, i can’t see the push menu. what am i missing?
Thank you Paul. You are great!
How do i see thru the camera without anyone pressing the doorbell
Nice video Paul. Can I use Tasker, to open up my Reolink camera on my phone when there is motion? Just need a simple task like that.
Depending on the stream type, wonder if that could be pushed directly to VLC media player, which is readily available on Android TV.
@@Far_Ken from what I remember it is a standard rtmp stream but the encryption key rotates. Probably better off trying to work the google assistant command into tasker to open it so everything is happy.
Amazon Alexa is the best for home automation, it has the most skills.
Also, Google can't add a device to more than 1 room or group; example: kitchen and family room are adjacent to each other and I want the lights in both room to turn
off if I say all, as well as independently turning off either room.
Alexa is inexpensive so I bought 8 to equip every room with Amazon Alexa for voice control so that I can just ask 'turn off the lights' and the echo in that room
knows to turn off those lights and not other lights in the house.
Great idea, I can’t leave the TV on either, I intend to use this myself…
Having said that and with the caveat that I’ve have only a tiny bit of Tasker experience…
You don’t need to leave the TV, the android phone is listening, add an additional step when you launch Nest - “turn the TV and set the TV’s input to the android tv….”
Prosit,
Craig
Very good presentation greetings from Greece
Paul, absolute noce, now i have an indea, how to combine my Eufy Doorbell with a Door Opener
Q to Paul. Does this works also on Iphone?
Saved for later doing things in house lolol Thank you love it
Does it works with a iPhone?
