So not 100% sure I understand the question, but if I get it right; if you're watching a Sky Q box, this is connected to another HDMI port on the TV, so on most TVs if there's activity on another HDMI device, such as a Firestick or DVD player for example, the TV should switch to that HDMI input, thus switching from the Sky box to the Firestick, but this depends on whether or not the TV does this as normal behaviour, and also, if the Firestick is idle before the doorbell triggers. If the Stick was already active and displaying, then the TV won't see any difference when the camera suddenly displays on the screen, but if its idle or 'screen off' then the TV will get a new signal from the Stick and should change the HDMI input. No guarantees with this tbh and some TVs you may still have to manually switch. Good to check if there's an option on your own TV in the manual on auto switching HDMI inputs. Hope this helps.
I have swann cctv, I can see camera on my fire stick, but 1 channel at a time, is there a way to show split screen ie all 6 cameras on TV through firestick ?
Not using the Alexa option, but there are other apps that can view multiple feeds at once like IP Camera Viewer Pro etc, but some of these will need to be side loaded on the FireStick. Currently the native support will only show 1 display at a time.
No specific app needed. Best to try it on your phone first and figure out what command works with your particular doorbell. Bare in mind a) you need to have the ring skill (assuming its a ring doorbell) setup in your Alexa app first and b) the routine needs to use the exact name that your doorbell is called in the Alexa app.
No this will work without an echo show as long as the blink cameras are added in your Alexa app. Best way to test is use the remote with the firestick to ask Alexa to show the camera. FYI if you have a 'lite' firestick this probably won't work as Alexa voice isn't available on the firestick lite versions.
@@AndysTechLife I have the 4k Fire stick, i set it up with the routine like you, and it kept saying my firetv did not support this action, but after messing with it for over an on hour, i figured out that the setting for link to your tv through Alexa, was in the blink app the whole time 🤦🏾♀️
Thanking you - your Alexa Routine has worked out for me on my TCL Android Tv with firestick - I was lost earlier but now it switches from any Hdmi to display the ring. Appreciating your efforts !!!😊
Do you have any suggestions for a solution of camera doorbells or any kind of smart doorbell for apartment complexes where you are not allowed to modify the ringer at the entrance?
For the main entrance nothing much you can do but some of the intercoms inside your apartment may have add ons that allow for remote viewing and control. For example if your intercom is Fermax they have an add on that will connect your intercom to WiFi and let you view and open. Other than that the only other option is the Nuki opener which allows opening on ring but no video.
So there's a couple of ways to do this, you can also use the IFTTT method for this which I see you've commented on also. But you can create multiple routines with the same trigger in Alexa app. For example, create a routine that does "when doorbell pressed -> show my doorbell on screen". The trick would be to create a routine for each of the devices you want to display it on, and use the Customized action and select the device you want to display on in the 'FROM' section in the routine. * Create routine -> Trigger is WHEN doorbell is pressed -> Add action -> Customized -> type in 'show my front door' -> Then choose the echo as the 'FROM' device. Customized actions are basically like tricking an Echo into thinking they received a voice command, so you type in what you would normally say, and then choose which device this action occurs 'FROM' So with 2 or 3 routines you can have the same trigger - WHEN doorbell is pressed, but each routine does a customized action to show the front door to a different echo device.
Andy, I think this already works in the US without setting up a routine, as I have been doing it verbally that way on my Fire Cube here for a long time; but nonetheless I have been replaying and studying your video carefully in the hope that your suggestion would enable me to have it work with those of my cameras that lack an Alexa Display Skill, like my Wasserstein camera for example, but unfortunately it doesn't. Any idea as to a trick to make that work? Also, might you have any suggestion as to how to use a routine to command the Wyze DoorBell to flip from horizontal to vertical on FireTV? For some strange reason, the Wyze Doorbell displays on FireTV horizontally/landscape mode, making it appear as if the postman or delivery person is crawling on his/her hands and knees rather than walking up to the door. LOL!
Hey there, the reason for the routine though is to not have to use your voice and have it auto display when the doorbell rings. It works here on the stick via voice too, but wanted it to be automatic without the need to use a voice command. Unfortunately if the camera doesn't have a skill though the firestick isn't going to work. If we could bypass some of the restrictions and put more android apps on it might be possible the same as on an android TV device, but no luck so far I'm afraid. I'm trying to replicate what Paul Hibbert did on his Android TV device, but without all the Google Services there's just no way on the fire devices :( Very strange one that the picture on your camera flips though. Don't understand why it would do that. If it does the same on an echo show device I'd say it was settings but if it works on other devices fine there might be an issue with the skill, or maybe the firestick can only pull in the default orientation of the camera for some reason. I'm gonna keep trying with other Cameras but I think we might be out of luck on the fire sticks. :(
The only other thing I can think of is a 3rd party app like Tiny IP camera which you could install on your Firestick and try and import the camera feed of your other camera into and use a routine to open that app if that works, but this is tricky.. check out this video from Brian from automate your life as this might help: ua-cam.com/video/6nHpIRGCLd8/v-deo.html
Yup, the location shouldn't matter as long as its on the same account as connected to your Alexa. For example, I have the cameras in my home connected to a blink hub, but on the same account I have an office camera in my office location connected to another hub, but it's on the same account so I can view it with Alexa commands.
You could add a *wait* option in the routine, and if your tv supports it you could get Alexa to turn off the TV after a set period of time, but there's no way of getting the TV to specifically turn off at the moment the doorbell has finished. Maybe, if you have a smart tv you could add, wait 5 mins, then turn off the TV.
@@AndysTechLife hi. I've tried to add comment "wait 30 seconds" or "delay 30 seconds" and then added Tutn off TV but it seems that Alexa didn't know what "wait" or "delay" means and it didn't wait. Is there any specific comment or built-in option for delay before next action will be completed?
Can you link 1 or more cameras to a tv that stays on 24/7? Could i have 4 cameras on 'real time', on one tv? Would they be blacked out until motion activates them to turn on? And for your video, whats the delay time from ringing the doorbell to tv showing whos at the door? 3 to 10 seconds?
Haven't found a way to do multiple cameras although if you have an android TV or a firestick there are some apps that support multiple IP cameras so that might be an option. Yup there is a fairly long delay with the camera displaying unfortunately.
Have this set up now, works great thank you for doing the video, 1 question though. After showing front door it don't automatically go back to tv on hdmi port I have to change on the remote control. How do I get it to do that by saying alexa back to TV or hdmi? Or somthing like that, Thank you
Not really to be honest, unless your smart TV has a command that Alexa can trigger to change the HDMI input. This routine doesn't actually tell the TV to change to the FireStick on HDMI, its the sudden change of input from the camera loading that actually does that as a feature of the HDMI ports on the TV, so the only way would be to maybe get your TV cable box to turn back on which in theory would switch the HDMI back to that input. Other than that there's no simple way to go back to the TV I'm afraid.
You can try turning on brief mode: Open the Alexa app and find Settings. Then under Alexa Preferences, select Voice Responses. Find Brief Mode and use the Toggle to turn it on or off.
This is great I have this working on my echo show and I set it up in my fire tv, but the problem when I go to add another routing to go home the voice command is supposed to be the last action and it does not allow me to add a wait command and for me to navigate to whatever I was doing. I have to remove stop the video feed manually.
That's pretty strange, I'm able to just click on the remote to go home and move back to other apps on the Stick, so not sure why this is happening. :( I've a few routines set up and they all seem to work fine. Might be worth seeing if there's an update available for the FireStick.
@@AndysTechLife I'm sorry I did not explain myself correctly. On the echo show 8 I have to go and tap back instead of setting a command to go back. But the custom voice command has to be the last one. On The Firestick TV I'm able to go back to the previous state that I was but hitting back but I would like to put a wait command so it can go back without any interaction. Does that make sense?
I’m still struggling here, I really appreciate your walk-through it’s been very informative however I do have a brand new 4K Max fire stick as well as a brand new blink doorbell camera and it says that doorbell does not support this action. It announces it on my echo. And it does everything Even turns my light on as I wanted it to except I can’t see the video feed on my fire stick.
So it seems like a few people have had the same comment about the 4k sticks. I'm using an older one and both my Ring and Blink cameras are working fine, so, unusual though it may be, they may have changes something on the software as it still seems to to work for people to video cameras using the voice control in remote. The only thing I could suggest is playing around with the phrase you use in the routine to display the camera, but it is very strange. :(
I've set up the routine. If I preview it, it works. If I say show my front door with the remote myself, it works. But if I press the doorbell, nothing happens.
That's really weird. Seems like the press of the doorbell isn't triggering the routine. You might try relinking the skill for the doorbell or maybe creating a different routine, just to check if the doorbell press is triggering routines. So maybe create on that if the bell is pressed then Alexa sends a notification. If this isn't working then the issue is the doorbell not triggering the routines. Not sure how you'd fix that though.
@@AndysTechLife yeah I already came to that conclusion. I tried making the doorbell trigger something else and it did nothing. I've redone the skill several times to no avail.
My Samsung TV had Ring integration that worked perfectly until recently. Can’t even view the feed on it now. So I thought this would be a good work around. Annoyingly for some reason it shows me video for about a second and then goes black. If I view it through the app on the TV, it works. However Using a voice command bring up the feed and then it almost instantly goes black, can still hear sound though.
I find the Samsung integration with Alexa skills is spotty at best. I have a smart monitor with Alexa, but this method doesn't work even though I can manually ask it to display the doorbell. It seems like custom written commands don't always work on non-amazon devices.
I have set up my ring doorbell to appear on my FireTV when someone presses the doorbell button. However, I have a couple of issues. 1) once the video appears on the FireTV, it will stay on. How can I add a timer on my Alexa app to automatically return to the program I was watching after two minutes? 2) If I’m not watching anything and my FireTV and it is off, it will turn on and show the ring doorbell. The problem is that if I’m on vacation, the FireTV will turn on and stay on for as long as I’m on vacation. This means my FireTV could be on 24/7 for a couple of months (showing my ring doorbell live for the duration of my vacation).
In the Alexa app routines you can add commands to the fireTV itself, there's an specific option in the routines for FireTV while allows you to control the devices, so you could for option 1: * add a 'wait' command to the routine to wait for say 5 mins * then add a command for the FireTV to return to the home screen. There's no easy way to return to what you were watching unfortunately. For issue two, as long as your TV accepts commands via Hdmi there's an option in the routines to turn the TV off. A different option, and what I've done is that I have a smart plug connected to the TV and when I leave the house I have a routine that turns off lots of plugs, lights and sets the alarms, so that way the TV can't be switched on by the doorbell at all until I'm at home.
@@AndysTechLife Has anyone been able to get the tv to go back to it's original status automatically after showing the video doorbell on tv? Also if the tv is in standby status and there is no one at home and the door bell rings, the tv switches on and it stays switched on for ever. Can anyone provide routine step by step instruction to solve the above mentioned issues?
Depends on the TV, some will turn on when there's a change of signal from the HDMI but it really depends on the TV. Most won't since the TVay not be supplying power to the firestick when it's turned off.
There should be a Lockly skill in the Alexa app, but there's no guarantee this will work with the FireTV setup shown here, this will depend on what functionality the Lockly skill has.
I don't know of any way to connect via cable. This method only works using a firestick as Alexa is displaying the video. I don't think it's possible to output any smart door bells via a cable.
Do I need and echo show for this to work? I have various echos but no echo show. I have the blink doorbell with sync module. When I go straight to fire stick and ask to show front door, it shows it looking but it never comes on. If need to have echo show, this would e plain why.
You don't need an echo show for this it should work just on the firestick, but I've come across this issue before and there's 2 things to try, a) ensure you're using the firestick on the primary profile, as in the same one you use to set up all your Alexa routines etc. b) unfortunately I had to reset the firestick to factory settings once when this happened, not idea but did resolve the issue. Hope this helps
when someone ring my ring doorbell and it show up on my tv it work good. So a Big Thank you But how do I get it to go back to What I was watching as in what command do i have to give Alexa to go back to watching my TV ?
Depends on the TV. If you have a smart TV that can be controlled by Alexa you could create a command to change the HDMI input back to the TV one, but there's no simple way to do this. I've a routine that controls an Infrared blaster which can change my TV back to HDMI 1 for TV, but it isn't perfect. This will really depend on how you can control your TV via Alexa.
@@AndysTechLife hello thank you for getting back to me , will my tv is a smart tv so how would I know if my TV can be controlled by Alexa as this is all new to me lol can you help in any way like a video or a link etc
For me both ways the ring starts loading then just goes back to the firestick 4k homepage. For me only the actual firestick remote will open the live feed. "So annoying"

All this is done with the official Alexa app and optionally IFTTT which both have no ads so think you're mistaken there. Possible you have installed something else by mistake.
If you can view the Nest with a voice command you should be able to create a manual action to view on the Fire Stick. The only thing is I know Nest doesn't play nicely with other ecosystems any more so I haven't tried this myself as I replaced all my Nest products a few years ago.
You should see a little blue plus in the Alexa app, if this isn't working for your routines, the only thing I can suggest is checking for an update for the Alexa app. When you are creating a routine you should have the option to choose action which will give you a list of options, but if you don't see that it's possibly an issue with the Alexa app.
Nope :( Samsungs don't support Alexa on the devices themselves other than reviving on / off or basic commands. They don't have the Alexa app built in. This is using the Alexa built into the firestick and needs this to display. The TV is just acting like a screen but the firestick is doing the work.

Do you have a video showing Ring Door Bell button press showing on FireStick & Echo together (more than TWO devices)?
Customized actions are basically like tricking an Echo into thinking they received a voice command, so you type in what you would normally say, and then choose which device this action occurs 'FROM'
So with 2 or 3 routines you can have the same trigger - WHEN doorbell is pressed, but each routine does a customized action to show the front door to a different echo device.

In the Alexa app routines you can add commands to the fireTV itself, there's an specific option in the routines for FireTV while allows you to control the devices, so you could for option 1:
* add a 'wait' command to the routine to wait for say 5 mins
* then add a command for the FireTV to return to the home screen.
If the tv is turned off, will pressing the door bell turn on the tv and show whose at the door?
Depends on the TV, some will turn on when there's a change of signal from the HDMI but it really depends on the TV. Most won't since the TVay not be supplying power to the firestick when it's turned off.
How can I hook up the Echo to my Lockly video door bell?
There should be a Lockly skill in the Alexa app, but there's no guarantee this will work with the FireTV setup shown here, this will depend on what functionality the Lockly skill has.
I have a intelligent doorbell trying to put it on my Samsung Smart TV what kind of cords do I need to hook it up is it easy
@@AndysTechLife hello thank you for getting back to me ,
will my tv is a smart tv so how would I know if my TV can be controlled by Alexa as this is all new to me lol can you help in any way like a video or a link etc
How do you make it not turn on tv but still switch inputs
Well the input is on the TV so there'd be no way to switch the input if the TV isn't powered.
For me both ways the ring starts loading then just goes back to the firestick 4k homepage. For me only the actual firestick remote will open the live feed. "So annoying"
Installed on my Phone, but continuous ads.
All this is done with the official Alexa app and optionally IFTTT which both have no ads so think you're mistaken there. Possible you have installed something else by mistake.
does this work with Google nest doorbell?
If you can view the Nest with a voice command you should be able to create a manual action to view on the Fire Stick. The only thing is I know Nest doesn't play nicely with other ecosystems any more so I haven't tried this myself as I replaced all my Nest products a few years ago.
It won’t let me choose an action
You should see a little blue plus in the Alexa app, if this isn't working for your routines, the only thing I can suggest is checking for an update for the Alexa app. When you are creating a routine you should have the option to choose action which will give you a list of options, but if you don't see that it's possibly an issue with the Alexa app.
Could you go any faster
I do tend to ramble a bit :)
how about a samsung tv
Nope :( Samsungs don't support Alexa on the devices themselves other than reviving on / off or basic commands. They don't have the Alexa app built in. This is using the Alexa built into the firestick and needs this to display. The TV is just acting like a screen but the firestick is doing the work.
@@AndysTechLife understood thank you so much
You talk to much before getting to the point.
I do tend to ramble.... :)
This was absolutely no kind of help at all take it down
Could you be a bit more specific as it has helped others? It's also an old video so it's possible steps have changed since it was posted.
