    I’ve used the BOSS IR-2 live on gigs and it’s fabulous. I loaded some of my own Twin IR’s and was really happy with the sound / how it responded to all the pedals on my boards. From the videos of the show I’ve seen the sound was really good. This pedal is great.

    What I like about this is the ease of just bypassing the IR-2 and going into an amp with the same pedalboard.
    Rather than switching to a new preset on a modeler and possibly having to change a few global settings as well.

    I have my IR-2 and I'm really enjoying it. I play with different bands across a range of styles (rock, pop, country, reggae etc), but I don't tend to need more than a few basic sounds in any one situation, with any variations on them handled through the guitar's volume and tone controls. I've wanted a stereo rig for some time, and as soon as the IR-2 came out, I could see it as the basis for one. My intension is to build a board on which nothing is programmable; ie no presets. I want to be able to tweak knobs when I'm at the rehearsal, gig, jam or whatever, to suit the band I'm playing with and the venue I'm in. If halfway through a soundcheck, it's clear something needs adjusting, I want to be able to bend down to adjust it, and hear the difference. I don't want to wait until soundcheck is over and I have time to get my phone, tablet or laptop out to tweak a setting, hoping that what I've done is going to be ok for the gig. The two channels on the IR-2 do put a bit of a spanner in the works because the knobs won't necessarily reflect the current channel settings, but the pedal is simple enough that I don't think that's going to be a massive issue. So I'm planning on using a UAFX Del-Verb (delay and reverb in one pedal) in the IR-2's loop, a drive appropriate for the situation in front, and other assorted trimmings (Vibe, Dynacomp in front, maybe a chorus in the loop) again to suit the situation. I think I will need to get a pair of my own FRFRs though. If I just rely on going to front of house and hearing myself through a monitor speaker, I will only hear mono and that will take some of the pleasure out of it.

    • @PaoloC.
      @PaoloC. 6 місяців тому +1

      the knobs not reflecting the preset for me would be a big issue, I hope they fix that with an update. the iridium uses the led to let you know where the knobs have been set, very clever and a must have for these type of pedals, for me.

      Yeah. What this fellow said! Right on. For gigging and rehearsal purposes being able to easily dial in the sound is key. Stuff always sounds different depending on the venue. Menu diving sucks on the fly. Pretty sure I'm getting this pedal. "Only" two presets for me a is good thing. One clean, one crunch. Two drive pedals. I'm guessing the reverb will be good enough in a live situation. Fewer presets make for an easy to control setup. I own the PA we use so that's a relative constant. Not having to bring a full amp and to just hear my guitar via a monitor with my vocals would be a plus. A loud amp behind me while trying to sing is a challenge.

    I think the really daring thing to try would be to do a gig with just the IR-2. It would take some cajones. But imagine how easy load out would be. Back in the day I use to bring an amp and no pedals to a gig, get a good overdriven tone and turn down for clean. You got to be operating at max ability to pull it off. Would be a good challenge for somebody to do.

    I'd be really interested to hear the IR-2 running as an amp only (bypassing the cab sim) and running into either the return of a guitar amp or into a dedicated stereo power amp. With my current setup, that would be the most logical way to use it as I don't have full range speakers.

    I’m thinking I’ll end up with: Boss CP-1X, DA-2, OD-1X, IR-2, CE-2w, & DD-8 along with the Keeley 30ms and Source Audio True Spring. I’ve got space for 9 pedals on my “individual pedals” board, so the top candidates for that last spot are the EHX Pitchfork and the Jam Harmonious Monk. Although I could also see sometimes pulling the True Spring and just using the ambience from the IR-2. Right now I’m thinking I’ll have the IR-2 set up with its Clean and Crunch models, but I’ll see once I get it. Oh, and my looper is the Line6 DL4mk2, but it’s an optional off-the-board extra.

    Hi Nathan, thanks for your video, you have really nice playing, technique and taste. I play a bit of all genres but mainly blues. I prefer clean sounds with few effects and a good overdrive. I'm considering purchasing the Boss IR2 and since I would like to keep my Dv Mark C112 speaker (very light) I was thinking of a pedal power amp (e.g. Harley Benton GPA 100). Alternatively, considering a cabinet change, an FRFR, but I don't know which one. Have you ever had the opportunity to test the combination IR2 + GPA100 + traditional cabinet or something similar? In your opinion, what could be the most suitable solution? A thousand thanks!

    Chasing sound. When Robben plays a Deluxe it still sounds like Robben, When Larry plays a Deluxe it still sounds like Larry. One one of your brothers in broadcast had a chance to plug into Robben's Dumble. He thought he was going to sound like Robben but he was disappointed to find out he still sounded the same. You have great hands and you sound great through a Katana. It is the hands and the brain. When the brain is imaged thoroughly 70% of the brains function is dedicated to the hands. Anyone who was around Alexander got glimpses of him analogizing the frequencies on the particular cuts you liked on your records. Then he animalized the parts he used until he got it to match (it was your amp and only your amp) It worked with your hands and your brain. Yes equipment makes a difference. But John isn't finding what he wants with 16 Dumble's. It turns out what I wanted all along was right at my feet. Look down, she is right there.

    I thought the "Plexi" tones you were getting from the original IR-2 video were more impressive than the Unobtainium pedal; that would open up the possibility of just using the Boss with a more budget-friendly reverb/delay - paired with something like the Keely Caverns you'd have a $400 total two-channel with reverb/delay two-pedal board.

    So do you prefer the IR-2 or the Katana for live performances? In an earlier video you mentioned you switched back to real amps for live use. I'm curious to know what the sound differences are between the IR-2 and Katana or whether the components on either device affects tone. I would assume the Katana has larger internal components and may have an advantage in producing better sound/feel when performing live. But it's just a guess. It'd be nice if somebody compared the two.
