- 2003 Saturn ion wouldn't shift out of park, yet the car was rolling in neutral. Easy to take the center console apart and inspect the shifter linkage below the gear selector. Comment, up-vote, and share if ya got a couple extra clicks in ya.
My son's did the same thing, but under the hood. Easier to get to than the interior, actually. Thanks for the video. We'll be replacing the interior eventually, it's inevitable with plastic bushings.
My issue was a bit different but this video saved me a ton of money. I took that plastic top piece off & found another plastic piece jammed in the way of the shifter. Thank you for sharing!

WAIT NOOO! BEFORE YOU GO TEARING YOUR GM VEHICLE APART! Put the key in the ACC position then go behind the car and PUSH IT until you get it rocking
AS HARD AS YOU CAN UNTIL YOU HEAR A POP! Then get in and see you can get the Shiftier out of park. That is what worked for me. Good Luck!
If this ever happens again you can put a screwdriver or or pen in that little hole push down and it will let you shift tell you get fixed.

So what happen was you got in there to change the gear from park to drive or reverse the shifter moved but didn't go into gear on account the cable was detached?
Yessir. Cable just was no longer connected to the shifter. I assume the plastic wore out.
I have a 2004 Saturn Vue when I go to put it in drive it will not get out of park,the strange thing is it doesn't do it all the time.So does anyone know why it will not go into drive.
