Excellent. I just paid our local dealer $250 to replace one; thanks to your video, in the future I'll do it myself. They diagnosed the condition by starting the JD 335 mower, then removed one spark plug wire and the engine kept running, then removed the other and the engine died.
Great video. My X300 is running poorly and after checking the fuel system I discovered I was getting no spark on one coil wire. I removed everything and the rocket scientist in me noticed the spark plug wire was worn in two somehow so I hope my local JD has those in stock and doesn't have to order them. I would have totally screwed up putting the new coil on without this video. I had no idea they should be gapped by a double piece of paper. I would have just bolted it down. Thank you!
@@brentwilson5971 Nope, I chose to learn and do everything myself. We all learn from our mistakes. Anyway, all turned out great and the mower got fixed without a $200 bill from a service department.
The easy way to test coil is pull one plug wire off at a time ( twin cylinder) with engine running. If coils are good you will notice engine studder when pulled off. If coil is bad no difference in engine sound, then pull off good coil wire and engine dies. Engine was running on one coil good and one bad.
Hi, great video! Wondering if this could be the issue with my X360. It turns on fine and mows, but has hardly any acceleration on flat ground , not to mention hilly spots in my yard. Plugs were just replaced. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
Good morning I have aX320 engine FS651V? ,2012,402 hours. My problem is runs great cutting great every so often engine will just go down and die then back fire like when you get off of seat and engine kill switch takes it out, thinking electrical. Have bypassed seat switch. Does not happen all the time but is getting more frequent. Did notice on last on cut engine did sputter and back fire but picked bk up and kept running then died a few minutes later. I usually flood it and get off wait a few minutes and it will crank as normal. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Can I get coil through you if needed. Just hate to start changing parts in the blind if you know what I mean TIA
I would change the ECM. This is a common problem with these mowers and this usually fixes it. Here is a link to a video I did on changing it. ua-cam.com/video/xZDVAWflDoQ/v-deo.html

Oh no! Good catch on that one. So is everything running good now?
@@247parts Thanks to you, yes. Running like a Deere.
If you didn't know about the coil gap, maybe you shouldn't be working on the motor?

You could've kissed that engine good by if you would've started that engine without any gap on ignition coil.😬😬.
Very good jobe explaining everything clearly and simply.
Video great explanation and very helpful saves me tons of money
Business card works GREAT for setting air gap as well!!!
Very helpful! Well done. Thanks!!
Glad I could help and thanks for watching!

Nice tip! I should have done this.
To gap a coil just use a business card with no raised letters!
Thats a good idea too!

Mine did that it was dirt in the tank , I blew air back through the lines , look at your fuel filter to see if it's full of gas and clean .

The popping is from water in your tank, doesn’t take much, condensation!
