This was awesome, I don't animate but it is really cool to see how it is created over time. My favorite animations are the older games that have the character stare at the player waiting or resting in some way instead of standing the whole time.
Just so you know - this has actually quickly become my favourite channel on UA-cam. Been watching your stuff for two weeks or so, and it is so inspiring learning from you and such a pleasure watching you work and create. The way you teach and the way you deliver your content and information is very good. Really very good. You retain my attention and interest for the entire video, every video. Well done, sir; and even more than that, Thank you. 😊
You make this look so easy! I just started programming and pixelart, so my personal progress is more like pushing pixels around, hoping that they'll fall in the correct spot somehow... Im always amazed by both your results and also your speed!
It comes up to me that your content is just like AMSR; so refreshing, calming, and relaxing. At first, I came up to your channel for just proving to my teacher that I actually research my personal project which is pixal realated. But as I was working, Music or even streams were getting me be less effective on working and it was so mind bongoling!! Until I got into your content, your voice and structure of what you say is again heaven. Thank you for making videos no matter and putting in lots of commitment of your work.
I saw that over 1 year ago and didn't understood much, rewatching this kind of video is very useful now that I trained way more and now can absorb all of it.
I like listening to your videos as I draw just to have something on. Something in your voice and Australian accent is very pleasant to my ears. Awesome video
Okay then, went over step one. As I didn't have any suitable backgrounds nor any suitable models to put my first ever character up against, I instead made a black box outside of my character, then used a color that the outline would be mixed up with, which was red, and then put green outside of the box.
Instantly recognised the Poké & Chill soundtrack because I also use it all the time X] These tutorials are really helpful for folks trying their hand at pixels :D
Something I'd like to try coding for my game is making the animation faster or different depending on health and attacks per a minute. It's probably easier than it sounds. Something else I always liked in games are loiter animations. The Tenchu animations are my favorite, seeing the characters scan their surroundings.
Hi, you have great videos!! The question is, what kind of program do you use, how would you describe it... In most videos where there is a purple background, and you draw right on this background, and insert pictures there, etc. Good luck, Thank you!!
When it comes to incidental animations (like when you speak to a character and enter a cutscene). How do you stop it from defaulting back to these idle animations? Does the animator controller prevent this?
Could you please make a video where you demonstrate how to do collision and jumping in isometric pixel games? Or anything isometric, I'd be happy with it. There aren't many isometric game tutorials on UA-cam. I don't even know what the benefits of 2D vs 3D are in isometrix pixel games. :/
Hey Adam, would you be able to make a pixel art animation tutorial on how to make something spin? Like fan blades? I've been using a lot of your videos and you give AMAZING advice for even basic art skills (using a single color you know you don't want to use to create form has been a game changer in ALL of my art).
Hi, how are you? I have a problem with the space between the character ( sheets)idle when a I put in engine, it cut the character in half for animation. I like you videos.
I am new to Pixel art for games. Which software should be used as pro games? Also is drawing tablet, Mac or iPad helps to create professional graphics?
I have a question about size of pixel art character and background size for mobile game. I created 64x64 but when I put on game screen it is very small. Should I scale it up? If I make 128x128 then it does not give very pixel view. Can you tell me the proper size of character and background and scale options if needed?
What would you say if one would create animations by havingthe limbs on seperate layers? I find it difficult to paint over my sprite and get it back to its original state, especially when they are a tad more detailed and I thought maybe you could extract the arm, chest, legs etc. and move them independentiely from each other?
Most of my animations are created that way. Separating your work into layers allows for fewer "destructive edits" and you should do it wherever practical.
You can get the dark theme by downloading it from aseprite.org, or if you have the steam version of Aseprite just set your install to the "beta" track for access to version 1.3b and the dark theme will be in the Aseprite preferences already.
If anybody has recommendations on how to do a "light" effect in aseprite I'd appreciate any help! I'm trying to make flashlights/streetlights make whatever their light touches appear with daytime colors instead of just slapping on a white/yellow glow. Thanks :)
Hey noob here, i just created my first idle animation, but i use game maker as engine not unity. when i import the sprite it adjusts to the framerate of the game (60), means its like 3 times faster than the original since the animation originally has 20 frames. how can i fix that?
Excuse me sir!! How do i get access to the beta testing of this, with my busy schedule and ADHD I have had a hard time being able to finish my game for the last 15years, this would be a huge help...
can you video how to create character with these 5 animations (1. idle) (2. Walk) (3. eat or hand to mouth ) (4. Stab) (5. Slash) then upload in game please AdamCYounis i really need this please help me plz just create simple character not the hard character i think its took not much time iam waiting for your video
There are two export windows in Aseprite. One is "Export" and the other is "Export Spritesheet". You want the second one if you're trying to export it all as a single image side by side.
Modern pixel artists often overdo idle animations, everyone looks like they're getting psyched up for a weightlifting contest or something. This one mostly just looks like she's breathing... breathing a bit wobblily maybe, but still just breathing. If you look at classic pixel art from games in the time games HAD to be pixel art, they almost never had these sort of idle animations. It's a modern indie game gimmick.
ive never seen a single human move up and down when breathing gotta be honest. Her arms could move and her chest in and out one pixel would have made more sense. Than if you were doing states her knees could bend a bit for resting and her torso could sit a bit lower hand on hip or arms crossed

Or the one's that start juggling

I really dont understand how you drop these tutorials whenever i need them. Thank you as always adam
That was a fantastic tutorial as always! I really love seeing the creation of sub-pixel animation.

This is very helpful! We're currently developing a retro game as our final project! Thanks for this one!
I love your flow, Adam. You do a fantastic job balancing the visual work and conversation. absolutely delightful,
Thank you
such a underrated channel, keep doing please. I learned a lots from you ♥
Great videos as always. I've been looking forward to your videos for the past week.
Your voice is like a warm blanket
Man, your lessons are pure mithril, very helpful.

your voice is almost as sweet as bob ross's ! Thanks for this awesome content, i'll probably be a pro very soon !
Thank you for the content. Great timing on the vid too.
Love ur walk-throughs! Ty
An idea for your videos: your followers can send you the sprites they were working on, and you can tear them up/provide critique
Thank you for covering this topic!!!!!!!
Thanks for voicing all your thoughts, it really helps to see how to approach animation and what to think about
i thought this came up because of the algorithm, I'd just been doing idle animations! just my luck thank you sm
Subscribed, excellent work 👌
What software do you use to animate these in? Thanks for the useful tips in the video!
You're probably not still wondering, but the software used in this video is aseprite
@@Kibannn OH MY, thanks man!

Hey Adam, great video, as always! Thank you. How do you get your palette to display that way ??

You so nice at pixel if I know where you live we will build the most COOOLLLLL pixel game ever

Hi Adam can you do a tutorial for bigger character sprites ?
@Adam, how can someone get hold of you if they have a project that they would want you to work on?

What program did you use to make animation?
my gif soo speed but I'm aseprite animation speed make a x0.25 how make fixt that?
Is there a way to change frames position (1 to 2, 5 to 1 for example) or do I have to make a new one?
i really want to know what canvas size is most suitable for creating sprites
If anybody has recommendations on how to do a "light" effect in aseprite I'd appreciate any help! I'm trying to make flashlights/streetlights make whatever their light touches appear with daytime colors instead of just slapping on a white/yellow glow. Thanks :)

i turned down the speed instead of the framerate and it works visually, but i think something will mess up sooner or later bc of that

So the art software magically appears in your PC?
if you're searching for a tutorial like this, obviously you already have a software that your using.
