I remember that, he would give you the card they read at his funeral. made me cry my first time reading it. to know that was a real person that used to be that character.
There was a warrior on my server called Killerrod who was so bad at playing the game, even though he was one of the most active players on the server and always leading pug raids. He became infamous for being such a bad player that somebody started a raiding guild called Killerrod and it became one of the best raid guilds on the server. He tried to join them later on(they refused).
That’s so fucked up they didn’t let him join. Leaders don’t need to be the most intelligent, courageous, efficient or competent individuals, they only need to being people together and those who follow them can be those things. Obviously, he was great but just not in a way that’s common, can be copied or have a traditional way to make records. But he unified some people to become the best, he inspired them and brought them together and they turned their backs?! Even nolifers & trutryhards have more humanity in them, than those guys.

He was hilarious... trying to sell bind on pick up items in the tradechat, telling the world chat about his new items/mounts when nobody cared etc. He was genuinely always making a fool of himself somehow publicly on the server. On top of that he used to get like 5k DPS as a Fury warrior in WOTLK with end game gear that he reserved for himself in the raids he organized. For comparison I was pulling like 15k+ DPS at least with mine. He ended up changing his character name to change his image and went from DPS to Tank which he was actually decent at. For a while DPS warriors the server over were being accused of being Killerrod, myself even. My DPS proved otherwise. After a few weeks nobody knew who the true Killerrod was and people stopped caring, he could play in peace. I knew what he changed his name too, I didn't say anything.
Reckful didn't play Sub because he thought Assassination was too strong lol. He saw the pros of sub rogues when no one else did, so that's what he played. Reckful understood really early on that mobility and timing win against pure damage.

You forgot Loremaster Skosiris! Skosiris is the name of the character played by Wowhead's founder. In addition to this, he was one of a short list of people to complete the achievement granting him the Loremaster title, which is no small feat - the title requires completing *almost* every single quest in the game. After getting the title, Blizzard recognized him by making an npc named Loremaster Skosirirs, quite literally his character's name with title, in Shattrath.
I remember when I got ashes first time ever attempting it and my guild laughed at me saying good luck farming that and a little bit later they seen me get the achievement for completing tempest keep and they asked if I got it I didn’t respond and just clicked the mount and when my guild mates seem the ashes achievement they all swore at me greatest day ever

I started playing back in BC. I started with a Dranei. So I never got to see that particular quest till I decided to try Horde, Blood Elf Pally. Only because I love pally, and the Horde at that time, only had BElf Pally's. Soo I start in BElf area and get to 20, and ride all the way to Mulgore. I start at the beginning of the Tauren area and man is it dull there. All that sandy grass and sparse trees. Mleh. I finally see this dog running about, Frenzied Carl. "huh, strange." I find the Tauren at the bridge and ... "Why is that guys voice so odd?!" I'm thinking. So I finish the quest, la de da, I get out the area and max out my character and Raid with my guild. Now at the time, my guild was made up of my friends. Like the kind you live only 5 min from. About 10-15 of them. So I get together with them for a table top RP session and we all get to talking about WoW and I ask them: "What's with that 'bull-guy' and his dog? Whys his voice so weird??" And I get the story of the kid and his 'Make a Wish', and it gets to me. I was so proud of Blizzard for allowing that little gesture to happen. It showed me that they do have a desire to make their players feel heard and seen. And I am always happy to help him get his lil pupper back. :)
there is a video few years back a person took his character and visited and payed respect to all the people who passed employees and players in the game. very touching video.
There is a little girl in Stormwind keep garden who gives you a quest to take a poem to her friend in Outlands. The N.P.C is a hunter who is based on a WoW player who died and her friend asked to make a tribute character for her.
My childhood friend became an NPC too. He was a huge WoW player (making to the highest rank in classic original) he applied for a job in Blizzard after college and later became an associate producer until he left the job for Riot. There is an NPC named after him in Outland.
There is also Nyhm, Swifty (He was removed, unsure if he was added back), Mortuus (Not Oxhorn himself, but one of the characters from one of his machining series), Ezra, and probably more

Robin is an npc based after Robin Williams & looks like a genie, in tribute of one of his most famous voiceovers & characters in Alladin (The Genie), which was even based, on his maneurisms & comedy...

During Wrath there was a capped ally paladin named Rickblood on Ysondre that regularly ganked all the horde lowbies at Tarren Mill. Sadly, the player died a few years later. But he was super popular on the server.

Almost all of the Bloodmyst Isle NPCs are named after members of the guild from Blackrock and Bloodscalp. Or in the case of Princess Stillpine, a nod to the male warlock that had the misfortune to have Robes of the Battleguard and the "Princess" moniker stuck for eternity... For everyone else, nice when a guildie becomes a blizz designer...
Back in the TBC days of of AV battlegrounds(Nazarem server) it was always a handicap map that favored the alliance, A horde player Rathamus came up with a strategy that was guaranteed easy honor with a short 20 minute BG, all had to be on vent(Ventrilo) and all had to be willing to pull back to defend. It was that successful he had a 300-1 win/loss...the loss from the 1st try at the strategy. Even later you could call out a AV premade Rath Strat and people would ask for invite as they new it would be an easy win, a petition to get a part of AV named after Rathamus didn't succeed as the Activision business standard was overtaking the Blizzards.
