@@SelfImprove-v4f Hey, thanks for your comment 😊 I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com and my book The Depersonalization Manual. And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍
After recovery dpdr will be like nothing for you. You will remember those days of suffering from dpdr. But those days will make you realise that you are a Fighter and you never lose hope. After a full recovery you will become better version of yourself because you will learn to face problems in your life.
@@mennayasser3675 Don’t worry, feeling like you can't recognize yourself in the mirror is super common with DPDR. I know these experiences can be frustrating but they will fade away and stop as you recover 😊 www.dpmanual.com/about/do-i-have-depersonalization-disorder/
Couldn’t have said it better myself. I’ve been experiencing it for like 4.5 years now but it is getting a lot better. I used to think to myself “I should have never smoked that weed” but now I think it’s a good thing in a way. It’s made me be able to live through a challenge and has actually made me a lot stronger
I just want to comment and say I was suicidal from dpdr about a year ago. It was hard to function and life felt like hell. It’s been a year and with cb therapy and medication, and I feel as normal as I did before. It occasionally comes up in moments of extreme stress, but never lasts more than 2 minutes. THERE IS HOPE! If you are struggling, don’t give up. Please! Your life is worth living and you will overcome this. I know it’s hard, but there is a way to stop feeling hopeless.
I just want to say that I recovered from DPDR and have been so for almost six months now. Shaun's book and advice helped a lot. The key for me was to stay disciplined and stick with healthy daily habits and to lose yourself in new and existing hobbies. I thought I had little hope to recover and struggled on a daily basis and found it unbearable to function. It does get better and you WILL feel better. You will come out of this a stronger person. A lot of people that have experienced and recovered from DPDR do just move on and stop spending time wondering or thinking about it (As hard as that sounds when experiencing symptoms). I have had to remind myself to come back to share my recovery with others to show there is hope and that IT WILL get better and you are never alone. Thank you Shaun.
Thanks for your inspirational words Jack and I'm delighted to hear that you've recovered! 👏👏 And if you'd ever like to have your story featured on the UA-cam channel just let me know 😊❤👍
funny that recently I found a music/video that is EXACTLY about the 5 second rule - Free by Florence + The Machine. it's much more common than we think. Even Post Malone talked about having DP/DR after bad drug experiences in an interview. the thing is, YOU'RE NOT ALONE! I've struggled with it twice and about 98% today in my recovery. it's almost impossible to think how I felt before my recovery journey.

I am recovered, 3 months without any symptom! I just want to ask something, sometimes I feel bad because I had dpdr for 6 months and I lost many important moments, I was obsessed over it and it made me feel very bad. But well… that’s life. Stay good people and keep your mind occupied and don’t worry about dpdr
My question is, do you have any recommendation accept that I had it? I mean I know I was doing things wrong but now I try to see it as something not as bad as it was and I need some advice
I'm very glad to hear you're doing so well 😊 And to answer your question: You haven't actually 'lost' any important moments, it's just that anxiety made it temporarily difficult to be present in those moments. but that's ok 😊 Part of recovery is understanding the condition, why it happened, why it was only ever a defensive mechanism and you were never really in danger. Accepting that helps us to stop worrying about the experience and let it go ❤️ www.dpmanual.com/articles/back-to-normal-after-depersonalization/
Shaun, I am here to express my gratittude to your work, I overcomed this episode of my life, it was so difficult, I was suffering all the time. in my case it last 5 months or 6 maybe and I was sad sometimes after being recovered because of the fear of it coming back to my life but it didnt because I undestood what it was and how to deal with it in a positive way, now I am a happy person who enjoy life, have many friends and see the expiernce of DP/DR as something sad but happy of being capable to overcome it. now I have a great challenge that is to go to the big city to study medicine career I am a bit scared but I will make everything to be okay. Greetings from Argentina
I had DP for 6 years until I got into a situation where a teacher was defending me, amd I felt safe, and then I felt a rush, like being alive again, the walls were more realistic the street, the sky was real, my hands were real I finally felt that they belonged to me.
@NRGRaven same for me, I have anxiety neurosis for 7 years since my vestibular system was damaged, today it’s fine but the trauma and anxiety related to it stayed with me = the same for dpdr. How did you managed to recover fully? How much time it took ?
Brilliant Shaun, a shining light in an otherwise cloudy world of knowledge on this matter. I recommend anyone to purchase Shaun’s manual and watch some video interviews. I am so grateful to Shaun for helping me so much during my recovery. I now feel better than I have ever felt before. Good luck everyone
The mind can only focus on ONE thing at a time. If you accept the feelings and allow them to be there, while resuming your daily activities (e.g. work, gym, spending time with family/friends, gaming, etc.), you eventually become so absorbed in your current activities that you'll forget about dp/dr and anxiety in general.
You are just right on everything that you mention. I will get thru this, I’m on fluxetine and with the help of these meds and my motivation this too will pass. Thank you, amazing job from you! I’m happy to see you just living freely again Mister.😊
Hi Shaun two months ago I got severe dpdr after taking antibiotics due to heightened anxiety like never before. While im still working on my mental symptoms of anxiety my DPDR disappeared after a month of religiously following your advice, it got me over an obstacle i thought i would never get over. Recovery is pushing through the uncomfortable feelings, detaching yourself from your thoughts and fears cause thats what anxiety uses to live and focusing on the stuff you love, even if its hard t enjoy it while having intense symptoms. It does get better guys even if it feels like its the end of the world its not. Thank you so much Shaun

This is the only thing I can relate to for how I've felt as long as I can remember. It was almost forgotten until I just got triggered recently by a conversation with a co worker. I've walkways felt like someone is looking through my eyes. I do lose train of thought, but not the sense of reality. I know I'm not crazy, but when I talk to close family or friends about it, I get the feeling they think I'm crazy.
I'm like nearly a year into it. I know that I can come out of it, when I have a few weeks of rest, without stress and work. But I don't have the time right now because I need the money and in half a year I have my exams for the work. It's sad to know that the next half year it only gets worse. I'm just so tired. Every time I learn or work it gets worse and worse. I hate it. Your video brought a bit hope. Thanks.

So when you do have it for 24/7 and it’s DR how do you constantly forget about or engage in something else? As life tasks and activists aren’t as engaging as say a video game or movie? For instance driving, shopping, dinner with kids, dealing with kid meltdowns, date nights, work meetings, gym? My DR is constant and unrelenting even when I’m just chilling with kids and family. I’m sensitive to any stimulus - people trigger it massively! Noise and lights and sound. Twenty years of this despite like David, very high functioning and quite successful so it’s a mystery to others who see me as very confident and brave and bold. Please help! You have to get rid of the anxiety. The best way I've combated this, is staying away from carbs and sugar. Get in the gym and eat right. I recommend the carnivore diet, it regulates mitochondria function greatly, which in return lowers levels of anxiety.
This started around 14 months ago when i couldn’t think straight because i was stressed so i said my feelings out loud so i could hear them. I then couldn’t cope without doing this so this is very frequent as either i speak or type in my phone to be able to see the words as my internal monologue won’t work. However speaking causes me brain fog as i can’t think straight now and sometimes i think about stress so much that this causes me to stress and i feel that even if it stops that even thinking about stress in the future will cause a relapse. i can’t remember memories and i feel like i have to force my brain to think such simple thoughts. This has also caused me to have to say things out loud like 5 times for example or else my brain isn’t satisfied with my thought process. I feel like my brain isn’t a part of me and i have to physically tell it to think but i get a weird tingling feeling when it isn’t satisfied. Also my bad memory is causing me to fear me forgetting things so sometimes i have to force myself to remember them
Thanks for your comment and I'm sorry to hear you've been having a difficult time ❤️ What you're experiencing, including the detachment, repetitive thoughts, and difficulty focusing, aligns with symptoms of DPDR, often tied to stress and anxiety. This condition thrives on a feedback loop where focusing on the symptoms perpetuates them, making it vital to redirect your attention and break the cycle. Memory issues are common because anxiety drains mental energy, but these improve as anxiety decreases 👉 www.dpmanual.com/articles/depersonalization-and-memory-loss/ But in the meantime don't worry, DP and anxiety are not permanent and you can and will recover 😊👉 www.dpmanual.com/articles/is-depersonalization-permanent/ And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. Trying to force yourself to feel "normal" can inadvertently increase anxiety / DPDR because it focuses your mind on it. Hi Shaun! I've experienced depersonalization for about 7 months now. I will buy your manual to get more feedback about how to deal with this. However, my doctor recently advised me to consider antidepressants short-term, as a way to lower my stress levels and then start working on the core issue. Hey, thanks for your comment and I'm sorry to hear you've been having a difficult time. Firstly, please make sure that you’re speaking to your parents about what’s happening. It’s very important that they know what’s going on. Secondly, I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍
hi. my name is millie and i am 12 years old. im struggling with something right now and im pretty sure it’s something like this. my symptoms are- i feel like there is a glass wall between me and the world, i look at myself and dont feel like its me, i feel like im watching a movie in my life like im in 3rd person, i don’t recognise my house, my school and places like that, when people have voices in there head it feels like they are in there head but it feels like they are right infront of me talking nit in my head. there is more but thats some. i heard it could be cause of abuse amd childhood trauma which i experienced. can you please tell me if this is dpdr or something?
Hey Millie, thanks for your comment 😊 From what you’ve described that sounds like a pretty typical case of DP/DR to me. But please refer to the 1st question here for more information: www.dpmanual.com/about/depersonalization-faq/ Please make sure that you’re speaking to your parents about what’s happening. It’s very important that they know what’s going on. Secondly, I know DPDR can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you. You can and will recover. Make sure to read through all the info and articles on my website at www.dpmanual.com And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so.
Yes but why i feel like i will never recover , i’m really trying my best . What did u do for recovering?

👏👏 And if you'd ever like to have your story featured on the UA-cam channel just let me know 😊❤👍
how did you get back to normal? what's that when you wake up your vision is normal?
@shinobis-o6z exactly my question
funny that recently I found a music/video that is EXACTLY about the 5 second rule - Free by Florence + The Machine. it's much more common than we think. Even Post Malone talked about having DP/DR after bad drug experiences in an interview. the thing is, YOU'RE NOT ALONE!
I've struggled with it twice and about 98% today in my recovery. it's almost impossible to think how I felt before my recovery journey.

My question is, do you have any recommendation accept that I had it? I mean I know I was doing things wrong but now I try to see it as something not as bad as it was and I need some advice
Thank you Shaun! You were very important during recovery

While im still working on my mental symptoms of anxiety my DPDR disappeared after a month of religiously following your advice, it got me over an obstacle i thought i would never get over.
I hate it.

@@bostondavis4084 I’ve avoided sugar and carbs and trained hard for 20 years and makes no difference
Memory issues are common because anxiety drains mental energy, but these improve as anxiety decreases 👉 www.dpmanual.com/articles/depersonalization-and-memory-loss/
But in the meantime don't worry, DP and anxiety are not permanent and you can and will recover 😊👉 www.dpmanual.com/articles/is-depersonalization-permanent/

When I'm distracted i try to go back to normal which mean its that state of discostive mind, so its so hard I'm in a constat circle
Trying to force yourself to feel "normal" can inadvertently increase anxiety / DPDR because it focuses your mind on it. Remember that ultimately, DPDR is just a symptom of anxiety so when the symptoms vary, it's just your anxiety levels going up and down, and certain situations / environments can change them. I know it might seem difficult to believe but you actually have complete control over it 😊❤️👉 www.dpmanual.com/about/depersonalization-definition-what-is-it/
Currently back in dpdr after recovering for a few years after back to back panic attacks and I’m currently feeling very disconnected from my body, personality, and unable to recognize myself at all. I also feel strong physical symptoms that I don’t exist especially when standing or moving . I’m reading your book now and I do feel very hopeful for my recovery given the techniques. Is there anything you recommend to help?
Don't worry Graham, you can and will recover 😊 Follow the rules in the book carefully and completely for as long as is necessary and allow yourself time to recover. You'll soon start to see even more positive results 😊
how are you now
Yes I think I am having minutes of recovery a lot throughout the day so thats good. But my question is, when you are recover and think about dpdr, will the symptoms show up again or no? Because thinking about it gives me symptoms like crazy, which is getting more annoying then scary by now.

Hi Shaun! I've experienced depersonalization for about 7 months now. I will buy your manual to get more feedback about how to deal with this. However, my doctor recently advised me to consider antidepressants short-term, as a way to lower my stress levels and then start working on the core issue. Since they had zero clue about the term "depersonalization", I want to ask you if you think antidepressants can fck with my recovery?
I understand AD never solves anything, just lower certain symptoms. But I don't want to take anything in case there is any risk of it screwing with my DP.
Much love, Jon.

i am 13 year old and i start noticing dpdr 3 week ago and it been hard but youre video helped me. people say it happen in young twenies people at my age can get it to?
Hey, thanks for your comment. Yes, don't worrt, DPDR, like any anxiety-based condition can happen at any age. Firstly, please make sure that you’re speaking to your parents about what’s happening. It’s very important that they know what’s going on. If they're not familiar with DPDR you can show them this video which will clear things up for them: ua-cam.com/video/ANzyteEPKt8/v-deo.html
Secondly, I know DPDR can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you. You can and will recover. Make sure to read through all the info and articles on my website at www.dpmanual.com
And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍
My problem is that I feel it even when I am not thinking about it. I’m getting bad headaches and head pressure and physical symptoms of weakness. I’m so convinced I have a brain tumor or seizures. I don’t know if what I’m feeling even is dp/dr because I’ve had it before and this just feels so much worse. Idk how else to explain it besides it feels like my brain isn’t functioning

Hi I have had depersonalisation before which faded due to me accepting and being strong however I developed it again. I’m not sure why and i often get scared that I will recover and experience it again. This time feels different as I have already started to accept the feelings but I can’t seem to ignore my thoughts. I’m holding my self back as the number 1 question I ask myself is that how can I recover by ignoring the thoughts and letting them go because what if I forget about it but I will eventually remember it again. I also have this fear that what if I forget about it and depersonalisation switches off but I randomly remember it and it comes back. Do people who recover think back to the symptoms and feel it again? Sorry to burden you but please can u help me make sense of this.
I am wondering this too
Funny enough, watching TikTok or UA-cam helps me. A few funny cat videos and I feel okay again.
Yep, distraction can be that easy! 😊

Hey, I'm sorry to hear you're having a difficult time. I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time.
