51-3 is just diabolical. Their K-Gun offense was unstoppable
A lot of people give Belichick the credit for stopping the K-Gun; it was OC Ron Erhardt's plan of keeping the Bills offense off the field by controlling the clock. Still...
Except it was 4 years in a row
@@B1gZ10to the same division. And if they beat k c they'll face that same division again
Tell us about it!!!
Apparently, it wasn't. They lost four successive "Super Bowls"...
I don't think people can truly comprehend what it was like at this game and around Buffalo. We had driven down from Canada for games many times before but this one was different. Not only the first trip to the Super Bowl for Buffalo on the line but the Gulf War had literally just started and the patriotism was like nothing I had ever seen. Every emotion was on display.
It's very rare now to hear a crowd cheering this loud for the home team.
True!!!
And that annoying freaking song playing over the loudspeaker Twist and shout!
This Bills team was stacked from top to bottom.
Yes they were O line Wr Rb Qb D line Linebackers secondary amazing talent
Yes they were, they were so good and Talented all at the same time!!!
That's pre-free agency and pre-salary cap for ya.
They had 5 HOFers in Kelly, Thurman, Reed, Lofton and Bruce Smith. 4 of their 5 O-Lineman were minimum 2x Pro Bowlers, 3 of the 4 LBs were minimum 2x All Pros. This is how top teams looked before free agency and the salary cap.
@@lzv6990 Agreed!!!
I remember this game like it was yesterday. The Bills were the best team in the NFL that year and should have won the Super Bowl.
This Bills Team Was So Good and Should Had won The Super Bowl Vs The Giants If Not For The Missed Long FG by Scott Norwood
Second best to the 49ers. Until Montana went down.
@@carnebie 49ers and Giants were kind of equals as shown in their two matchups. The 49ers were scrapping by on some wins and were not the juggernaut of 1989. They were living off their reputation like the 2024 Chiefs. Very similar squads.
Belicheck was the defensive coordinator for the Giants that year. I wonder if there was any cheating going on then.
I was at this game; had season tickets with my sister and a bunch of her co-workers back then. At the end of the game, I stood and drunk it all in; the joy of going to the Super Bowl for the first time. But, I also said to myself; remember it, it won't last; not knowing there would be another decade of hope, then almost two decades of mediocrity. But it was glorious.
God bless
We can holy hope that this Sunday is amongst the most legendary games in Bills history
In these day I started to love the Bills and it's been 35 years of joy but mostly pain. Here we go again: GO BILLS!
Hopefully they beat the Chiefs Sunday!
41-3 at halftime. Time to hit the snooze button 😂
The fact that you go to 4 super bowls in a row, and still can’t win has to be heartbreaking when you retire ringless.
Well they had a chance to beat the giants. The other three they were manhandled.
They were leading at halftime in the last one, they played well against Dallas in that first half then just ran out of gas. It was the middle two games they were destroyed. @@joshingram071
They were really good too shi crazy
Yeah probably pretty heartbreaking but I’d be willing to bet that being a multimillionaire that got to retire from playing a game takes away some of the sting.
And should they get past the Chiefs this week, they'll face an NFC East team in the SB once again.
Such a great era of the NFL
9:24 next few weeks later they will become in my Tony Romo voice "The Two Most Dreaded Words in Buffalo "
It's too easy to forget just _how... f'ing... DOMINANT_ the early 90s Bills were. They were _stacked._
And it all gets overshadowed by 4 SB losses.
That’s how history in the nfl works. It’s pretty sad. Great teams get overlooked because they couldn’t bring a chip home. But in the end that’s the goal, so it makes sense
@lopstersharks9385 Oh, I agree. It doesn't matter how good you are if you can't close the deal when it counts.
I hope this happens this upcoming Sunday. Let's go bills nation
Let’s go Buffalo 2 more games to go, believe 😊
😂
It would be great!!!
41-3 at halftime against the Chiefs will be much better for my nerves, but I somehow think it might be a little bit closer at halftime than that.
@@danzigvssartre True!!!
That crowd was LIT🔥
True dynasty.. going to four straight super bowls is legendary... Those early 90s bills squads had talent.. just small mistakes cost them time after time
I will never forget this day as long as I live. and the heartbreak that followed a week later
LETS GO BUFFALO
Good memory on how it was to have interruptions for war updates inside the game, before Greenland war, Panama war and Canada war updates will follow the upcoming seasons 🥸
I love the Bills’ old red helmets.
They look great!!!
This is the game I became a Bills fan. I was 8 yo and remember this being the first football game I saw. Before it started I said, whoever wins this, I'll be a fan of. 30+ years and countless heartbreaks later, I still remain loyal.
Nice, same here. Most of my family were Giants fans. I'm from 82.
Wide right foreshadowing
Glad someone saw it! So funny
Just about the same distance as the following game's soul crushing miss as well.
Awesome Game for Bills Fan 👍
So much hope when this game happened... Memories...
Agreed!!!🏈🏈🏈🏈
As a Bills fans, love all those teams idc what anyone says.
yep Atleast those teams got y’all too the big dance lol
@ 4 in a row is still a crazy feat, it’s hard to get there, I’m glad this team is getting more love than it was back then.
Raiders honestly had no chance after Bo got hurt vs the Bengals the week before
I don't think they win even with Bo. The Bills were on another level that day.
@@KevinPayton-fq8gd IDK man I talked to an oddsmaker who had Bo worth 48.5 points, woulda been close.
@@MrPhilaCuse BS !!!
The Bills won in every phase of the game. Totally a masterclass of american football
My favorite players of all time: Jim Kelly, Andre Reed, Thurman Thomas and Bruce Smith. Still shocking they never won it all.
Those nfc teams were just so good. So heartbreaking
They kept giving updates on The Gulf War throughout the game.
I’m not saying he would’ve made a 51-3 type difference, the Raiders most likely still would’ve lost, but I could only imagine what the game would’ve been like if Bo Jackson hadn’t had his career threatening and prime ending hip injury the week before.
God I miss listening to Dick Enberg announcing games. Love the Pat Summerall and John Madden crew & the Sunday night crew of Mike Patrick, Paul McGuire & Joe Theissman. So nostalgic.
Man I hated that Sunday night crew Lol. Liked TNT one better in the first half of the year. Endberg & Summerall w Madden legends obviously.
@ who was the tnt crew? I remember tnt had some Sunday night games, but can’t remember the announcers.
@@andysmeltzer2505 Color guy was Pat Haden. PBP Skip Carey and then mostly Verne Lundquist.
Most of their games stunk though. Although they had a wild Raiders-Bills classic from this same season you can find on here. Buffalo was pretty fortunate to prevail which was why some people liked LAR in this one.
Hey thanks for uploading this special game for Buffalo. Great moment for the city, and fans. BTW haven't commented on your content the last few months due to being sick, but I'm making my way through the backlog, and will be commenting on a lot of the content you provided. Thanks again NFL Throwback for always being a nostalgia rockstar. 👍👍👍
Being a Bills fan is the absolute best and most soul crushing thing ever! The worst part? We should of absolutely won 2 of the 4. At the very least 1 for sure. Just Gutting!
Wow...look at that turf!! It hurts just looking at it.
They hit the ground 5 feet in, and slide out of bounds. Ouch!!!!
Scott Norwood went wide right in the AFC Championship too, damn!
Kelly gets blame though
Karlis went wide left in OT of '86 AFC Championship. You know it.
Sadly yes!!!
@@SocialAssasinYes, now that you mentioned it, glad you brought it up!!!
Been waiting years for you to make this video.
Howie long hated the no huddle. That bills o-line kicked his ass on this day, and buffalo just ripped the raiders apart limb by limb
Been waiting for this upload forever. Go bills babe
This Bills team should've absolutely curb stomped NYG in SB 25, but the players were allowed to go on benders the entire week before the Super Bowl and they showed up to the game recovering from days-long hangovers. They didn't remotely look like the same team against NYG in 1990. Who would've thought that relatively short wide-right missed FG by Norwood in the Bills 51-3 rout of the Raiders was an omen of what's to come in the Super Bowl.
Raiders ran into a buzz saw that day
Tell us about it!!!!
They just lost Bo Jackson during Divisional Round vs Bengals and then this...
Literally
@@novidsatriosatriochannel3336 True!!!
Originally the most points scored in a conference title game
The first of 4 straight trips to the Super Bowl for Buffalo, but only to witness heartbreak after heartbreak in the big game
Cause their coach sucked. Levy was handed a world class team and squandered it.
You’re right about that!!!!!
And should they beat the Chiefs, they'll face yet another NFC East team in the SB. Only question is: Will they complete the NFC East cycle or will it be a rematch of Super Bowl 26?
@@bassman8144 It wasn't that Levy was a terrible coach. He was a good coach. The problem was he faced coaches that were far more elite than him. Bill Parcells, Joe Gibbs, and Jimmy Johnson.
@bassman8144 In August Levy turns 100 years old. Hope he makes it.
I was there!! What a crazy game.
So, Norwood had his issues in this game as well: the missed field goal, the blocked PAT.
Pretty sure I still have this on VHS somewhere.
The game where the Raiders had never seen a crossing route before.
9:20 a presage of what was coming in 2 weeks.
I'm 40 years old & when I got into football it was right around the time the Bills were making it to the Super Bowl Jim Kelly was my 2nd favorite quarterback behind Warren Moon back then
Because they never got that ring (all lost to the NFC east weirdly) this has been one of the most overlooked great teams ever and overlooked runs ever.
5:07 I love that dude's Bills helmet cap, with the stripes down the middle.
My buddy and I drove down from Toronto snowy cold it was a great game any highlights when Bills beat the Dolphins after losing to them 11 seasons in a row opening day I think we ripped down the goal posts it was crazy … ripped up the turf nuts
If only the Bills weren’t such a cursed franchise
They were one decent kicker away from a title. Not bad compared to some other franchises.
@@Fjaloeat1 That's just it, Norwood was a decent kicker. Back then, FGs close to 50 yards were still dicey. 47 yards was the edge of his range.
At least the bills have a Sb appearances the lions who were founded in fhe 1930’s don’t even have a SB appearance yet now that’s one cursed franchise 😂
Every victory is a well-earned reward for sacrifice and effort!
True!!!!
Buffalo can only go to the Superbowl when it's an NFC East team on the other side
At least they're AFC champion dynasties😅
It was such a shame that Bo Jackson suffered a career ending injury the week before. If the Raiders had been able to run the football this game wouldn't have been such a blowout. I still think the Bills would've won though because Jim Kelly and that offense was soo potent.
If only Bill Belichick was the defensive coordinator...
That Bills offense was lethal even more so than Josh Allen's time.
Bill walsh color commentator
He was excellent.
He was not always comfortable in the role, but always had great insight.
This made me a Bills fan and I wasn’t even from there
It is absolutely astonishing that they were good enough to go To 4 super bowls in a row but not good enough to win any of them.
If only Scott Norwood didn't miss that kick...
They were not a big defense, built by Bill Polian, who also built smaller defenses with the Colts and were bludgeoned by the massive O-Lines from the NFC East in the Super Bowl.
Of course they were good enough. They beat the Giants and Cowboys on the road in the years of Super Bowl 25 and 28, respectively.
So for the Bills, they faced 3 AFC West opponents in 4 years in the title game and now they're about to do it again.
And they lost the Super Bowl to 3 NFC East teams: Giants, Washington and Cowboys.
Imagine if they face the Eagles in this Super Bowl?
This would be the third time between the Bills and Chiefs in the conference championship.
Wouldn't it be iron if the Bills beat KC to stop their SB 3 peat and then win the SB. I hope that happens.
It would be great to see!!!!
Womp Womp!
Let's go Buffalo
Former Washington qb jay shroeder ironically lmao
Still very painful to watch as a life long Raider fan. There are no words. However I wished the high powered Bills would’ve beaten the Giants. They certainly deserved it. Of the 4 appearances that was by far their best chance of winning one.
Watched this game as a 12 year old kid and never remembered.... Scotty missed a fg wide right in the first half.
Losing four consecutive Super Bowls is arguably the greatest feat by any team in history
This is a new low for the Raiders
Should’ve been 49ers vs Bills the week after
Chris Berman certainly thought so
They really hated putting the score on the tv back in the day huh
It should be noted that Bo Jackson got hurt the week before and LA was without their most explosive player. Was he worth 40+ points? Doubt it, but the game would’ve played out differently.
That said, I would’ve loved to see that bills team win the ‘ship. Certainly would like it more than the current bills
The Raiders fell behind so quickly in this game that a run game wouldn’t have mattered.
The very first football game I remember watching
Hell ya congrats ! Surely they’ll win at least one Super Bowl before they all hang it up
Whoever plays this team in the Super Bowl will have no chance. The Bills are unstoppable.
After this one you thought the Giants would have gotten thumped in the superbowl, instead what they did was one of the best possession games in superbowl history, limiting the Bills offence to 20 minutes of play.
Any chance the Raiders had basically went out the window when they couldn't recover that bad snap early in the game after a TD was taken off the board no less
The Raiders' chances were gone even before this game started. Bo's injury really hurt them.
Awesome video
I remember as a 4-year-old watching this game over at my my parents friends house I was a big Bills fan and I was so excited for this game and I predicted that Super Bowl God I love the Buffalo Bills
Oh so this is what actual football looks like
The Bills should have won 2 super bowls the fact that they went to 4 straight super bowls and couldn’t win one is crazy
Should have definitely won in 1990. Had the lead at halftime in 1993, and the ball to start the second half, and fumbled, which the Cowboys recovered for a TD, and everything changed because of that.
@ agreed
The Raiders definitely missed a healthy Bo Jackson this game.
Probably so!!!!
4 trips to the Super Bowl, they must have went down as a historic dynasty full of multiple champions…. Oh
Kelly wasn't clutch cause kicker missed fg ...Brady clutch cause his kicker made his fg
Anyone else notice that Norwood missed a kick wide right……ominous. SMH
Who's gonna be here after bills beat chiefs
I hope so but anything can happen
one of the most dominant championship game maybe?
I became a diehard sports fan for 30 years in 1992. Having been from Minnesota, the Twins were just coming off an all-time October classic win against the Braves. But I didn't care -- I was only 9 yrs old at the time. But the following year, we watched the Bills vs. Redskins SB on my grandma's wood-encased TV. I woke up that day -- perhaps I went from a boy to a man in a single afternoon. I saw that the Bills were underdogs in that SB, and immediately fell in love. I cheered for them to no avail. But I discovered my love of sports following that Super Bowl, only to be choked out by various heart-breaking losses by Minnesota teams in the decades to come. Having been brought into super fandom by watching the underdog lose, my fandom went out with a whimper as I've suffered 100 deaths from Minnesota sports since '92. Slowly seeing the life drain from my veins as I have never experienced a hometown championship win in my conscious years.
Go To 4 Straight Super Bowls, & Get Denied Four Times. Go In The HOF Ringless, Very Painful.
Regardless of who wins the NFC title game, if the Bills knock off the Chiefs, they'll face yet another NFC East team in the SB. If it's the Eagles (history doesn't favor the Redskins), they'll hit for the NFC East cycle.
Losing in the same round 4 years in a row sucks, doing it in the Super Bowl is downright insane
And lost to three NFC East teams too( Giants, Redskins/Commanders, Cowboys 2x) and now the NFC Championship game got Eagles ( only NFC East team Bills hadn't face in the Super Bowl) and Commanders all from that division
@@thenewjord50 Bills need to save us from another CHEFS Super Bowl, because i will miss that one if the Bills lose.
I'll take the Bills -48.5 points
Bills gonna win it all.
45-28 vs chiefs this Sunday and 34-17 vs eagles at Super Bowl 2025 y’all hater better watch out !!! GO BILLS!!
I don't mind that but I rather have the commanders winning the NFC instead of Philadelphia cause you'll see the Superbowl XXVI rematch.
@ true, I say eagles because eagles beat Washington the first go Round and lost by 3 Without Jalen hurts the second time against Washington but again it don’t even matter Bills winning it all anyways haha
We will find out soon enough!!!!
This was great to watch, thanks for Sharing!!!!
Thurman Thomas was absolutely the 3rd best running back of the 90s, behind Barry and Emmett of course.
He was better than emmit. He just didn't have that Dallas line.
The Bills O-Line had 4 members who were minimum 2x Pro Bowlers. They were excellent.
@@mrjdgibbs He was at least as talented, but I don't believe he was as elusive and crafty in between the tackles as Emmitt. Thurman was straight down hill, north/south runner. Both were really good catching out of the back field as well.
The Fact the Jets can’t make it to the superbowl is far more embarrassing than the Bills Superbowls
Maybe we will get the eagles bills superbowl match up that should have happened in the early 90s.
Go Bills 🦬
9:20. Foreshadowing.
Bo knows the LA Raiders would have won if he didn't get injured.
