    The gold handle is a hydro handbrake that doesn't lock, as you saw super useful to toss the back end around. The black shifter is a sequential shifter that is a manual, but doesn't require a clutch except for launching from a stop, as the computer rev-matches the shifts. Pull back = up 1 gear, push forward = down 1 gear. It may be called a 65 Mustang, but all the technology is modern. Only a few pieces of sheet metal are original.

      Agreed, the China mountain road in the F150 (Climbkhanna) is so bad ass as well! One of my favorite of them but next year for the first time he’s been brought on to Audi , his Hoonigan channel he goes to their HQ to see next gymkhanna 2022’s vehicle, an Audi instead of Ford . A futuristic recreation 1 off rallycar/Dakar looking wild vehicle so this next year must be an off-road rally type video instead of street. Think when he let Pastrana and Subaru Give gymkhanna a go Audi saw a chance to muscle in and do the same knowing he’s a big Audi fan as well. Lucky bastard!

      @@MZ-bl6wg Yeah Ken parted ways with Ford right after the first season of Hoonicorn vs the World. The real reason his daughter has taken the spot of driving the car in the second season as he can't drive Fords anymore since he is no longer with them. He’s about to be a Baja legend and challenged KB to enter this year too and one of the top drivers rode passenger with KB his first time in a trophy truck said he’s a damn natural. Can’t forget skateboard legend and Snowmobile phenom. I don’t care what anyone says. To become a world champion in SO many top motor sports series within 2 years of entering , it’s pure talent!!! Wel and balls. Lol I love how Europe gave Pastrana and Block crap trying the WRC and both finished on the championship podium their first year in the WRC , both with multiple 1st place finishes thru the season. Ken Block is an absolute beast! That spot on the mountain when the guy checked his brakes, that’s real. On your way down, you ride your brake a lot (you’re supposed to use your transmission but some people don’t know that). People have died early on because their brakes got so hot, they just faded and didn’t have any brakes and flew off the edge. It’s really sad. Whole families have died… 😔 So if your brakes are over a certain temperature, they’ll make you park and let them cool off. Once they’re cool, they’ll check again and off you go!

      Not to mention 136 corners , over half of which are blind and no guard rails and so many look identical , it’s why some of the best hill climb drivers on earth have died here. Last year sadly Ducati Superbike legend /Dakar legend, Ducati factory rider was killed taking the new 227hp naked street fighter in qualifying ending that class allowed at pikes peak. This years winner overall and last years was a small local team of engineers unsponsored who won fastest time with a 600hp K24 Honda powered Formula 1 looking Frankenstein with the biggest wings I’ve ever seen, he said it’s all about controllable power ,a light car and insane downforce that is the new pikes peak formula instead of 1500hp , massive brakes of the past. Entering a new phase in hillcimbing. They beat the record Volkswagen electric factory pikes peak race car by 16 seconds unsponsored with little money and alot of used parts, bearing the $120M electric factory car built jsut to take the world record at pikes peak and the Nurburgring with top world engineers and world champ F1 driver . the handbrake is a hydraulic one, they are used in nearly all drift cars. The lever to the left is the gear shifter, and instead of using an H format it is just up and down, so if you push up you go up one gear, and if you push down you go down one gear.

  • @jamesmatthew1903

    The gold lever is basically a clutch / e-brake between the front and rear differentials. Think of the gold lever as a sort of 2wheel4wheel drive lever.

  • @SigTheSauceMan
    @SigTheSauceMan 2 роки тому +1

    Fun Fact: At ~13:30 in your video (about 7:40 in the actual video), the railing slide he did actually left a tiny area of the bumper grinded down into a small dimple. Ken left it there after re-painting the Hoonicorn again (I assume it's still there, even now in his daughter's ownership of it).
    Also, the gold thing that says [HOONIGAN] with the red button is a hydraulic handbrake (common in drift cars). The red button cuts power to the front-end, throwing it all to the rear, allowing the rear to swing out real easy. And the Hoonicorn is equipped with a sequential 6-speed manual transmission. Note that the car has a clutch pedal, but is not needed for shifting, but can be used for launching and clutch-kicking.

    • @MZ-bl6wg
      @MZ-bl6wg 2 роки тому +1

      True but the reason Pikes peak is so deadly is it’s 136 corners that have to be memorized and half are blind corners and all drivers says so many of them look identicle with the tall lines on both sides it’s easy to misidentify a blind corner and overshoot the next. Very very few guardrails too, most of the most dangerous spots don’t have guard rails. The last 2 years have been won by a local who built his own car with some buddies and no sponsors and he said his 2 secrets are downforce )with the 2 biggest front and rear wings I’ve ever seen) and actually memorizing the entire race stretch, every corner. Spends the year closing his eyes and visualizing every corner bottom to top and using a simulator he built of the road. So many of the deaths have been from a world class driver not spending enough time on memorizing and relying on driving technique and the vehicle which will get you killed and does regularly.

I’ve driven some stretches so frequently that I recognize plants and trees or even small pot holes. I would imagine that you would learn the feel of elevation and the views in the distance. It would be a thrill to drive one day. I would say I am an adrenaline junkie when it comes to driven windy roads. My motto is that anyone can speed on straight flat roads, you’re a good driver to speed on corners

      Yeah, the first corner he did it was what you said, the 2nd and 3rd time were intentional when he saw that the AWD system compensated amazingly with 2 wheels on asphalt and 2 in dirt he said he was able to power it out from the edge letting the front wheels yank him out so he slung it in too hot In the following 2 , unpracticed but he said the final 2 were a throwback to one of his first when he and Fellow skater Rob Dyrdek had a portion where he did a donut around rob in while he did donuts in a Kart and KB accidentally dropped both rear wheels off the docks edge but Subarus Rally AWD system similarly shifted traction to the front wheels and pulled him back on , one of his legendary moments that are now in all his gymkhanna videos as tributes to the first. 2022 he’s using a 1 off Audi rally/dakar restomod looking car Audi hand built for him for next years so he interesting to see how he does the wheels off in an obvious off-road Gymkhana next year, it’s a very Dakar rally vehicle height unlike any of his other cars so I’m stoked!

    I feel like nations have developed general profiles for car design mentality. The sleek, innovative lines of powerhouse italian cars. the hardy, classic frames and internals of british cars. the compact, tech-forward designs of japanese cars. and for america? POWER POWER POWER. Big, snarling machines made for straight-line performance and guzzling fuel like a fat kid guzzles pepsi.

      Funny enough Ken Block and Travis Pastrana have become best friends and 2 of the most talented vehicle drivers of all time, whether WRC, World Rally Cross, Baja SXS or trophy trucks, drift series, hill climb, those 2 are so naturally talented it’s wild. To enter WRC, WRX, Baja, etc with the worlds best and win multiple races first year in each sport and championship podium finishes first year in all as well it amazes me! A motorcross world champ and a shoe designer skate border are now 2 of the worlds best in a number of racing series and both factory sponsored, TP woth Subaru and KB with Ford and now Audi is wild. Travis Pastrana this year got invited by Red Bull to drive their backup 1,100hp trophy truck in the Mint 400 Baja race, 450 mile 150mph off-road desert race with the top 49 trophy truck drivers in the world in one of the hardest races in the world up there with Dakar and the Baja 1000, Travis said sure of course, and 2 weeks before the mint 400 he drove the truck for the first time . Drove it twice total for minimal time , comming from WRC to 46 inch 1100hp trophy trucks they put him in the backup truck to get his feet wet, neither they or anyone else expected him to make it 100miles before breaking or rolling it and he took 3rd place beating 47 of the worlds best!? Now signed as a factoet driver for 2022 he challenged Ken Block to get a truck and race next season too seeing their similar off-road talents translate so next year their competing agaisnt each other for their first seasons. Travis shut the entire sport up with his performance and hd he not had a mechanics problem earth on he was on pace to break the record…FIRST race, 3rd time in ANY trophy truck!
      Also both are 2 of the nicest guys in the world! I live 5 minutes from Travis Pastranas/Nitro Circus hidden Orem Utah HQ which I was able to be a part of the architectural design team on. Looks like a 100 year old retro it auto factory building but is brand new and everything in it is designed to be able to drive a side by side through all hallways, up all stair cases etc with a v ventilation system for for exhaust fumes, engineered concrete from stairs to all floors so a dirt bike tire won’t tear up the stair run edges concrete should as he put it “we have obstacle course contests with dirt bikes.” You’d never know it’s His except if you go down the dead end road at night when someone’s there and have the lights on becasue you can see in the 30’ ceiling in the entry he had us do a very special chandelier. A hardened steel chain attached to his first Baja 1000 race he competed in in a modified SXS Razor that he flipped end over end 27 times. It’s now hanging as it was with the Baja mud still on it and completely totaled from the ceiling as a chandelier wrapped in LED decorative lights. In the day U can’t see in the tinted glass but at night when it’s lit it’s an amazing sight. Seeing that or his Nitro Circus wrapped Dodge hellcat Ram TRX not in the underground bunker garage he often parks right out front the front doors casue it’s a dead end road. Ken block lives 45 minutes up Provo canyon near park city ski resort where his build shop is and mini winter x games training private little resort is where all the best snowboarders and x games skiers stay with him and use his private lift and runs /half pipes to train staying in his modest mountain home. Travis and Ken have made utah their home full time for Ken and half the year for Travis and are known as the 2 nicest most humble legends in motor sports. First time I met Pastrana as design kick off, he was truly the nicest guy I’ve ever met and shit you not actually introduced himself to me “how are ya, I’m Travis, thanks for your time.” Obviously is been looking forward to that meeting since initial contact and am a huge fan and he introduces himself like Anyone wouldn’t know who he is and didn’t even say his last name, jsut humble as hell, didn’t want some gawdy world class building all would know but wanted one NOONE would know or guess. Designs it jsut like nitro circus. Wild and planning to utilize indoor and outdoor spaces and routes to literally have race courses with his buddies!??? When he mentioned the chandelier idea he wa so humble asking if it “was stupid” I said , um no, it’s probably the coolest idea I can imagine from a motor sports legend!” Not a pristine SXS but a totaled one with original dirt and fluids al
      Over it!? They’ve both also got involved with Black Rifle Coffee Company (they have a UA-cam channel) 5 US Special Operations Veteran Soldiers/Operators thst started a Veteran run coffee company in Utah. Travis and Ken have donated time and money to events for Ptsd vets and other promotional ads jsut to support our military and BRCC. Examples of what celebs should be.
