2 step is like an anti lag for a turbo. Its basically a system that allows detonation to happen while the exhaust valve is open. Thus giving more pressure to the hot side of the turbo and spinning it faster to prevent turbo lag.
Its mainly used during launching of a car. If you 2 step, you will have turbo boost at launch. But if you don't have 2 step and just step on the gas, it will be sluggish at first until the turbo spins faster and gives boost.

Yeah it's basically just an artificial rev limiter so you can spool up your turbo.

I used to be really into street racing. From 16 through 20 I thought it was the stuff. Then one night one of the guys that we used to hang out with got himself involved in a race that took the two cars through an intersection and they broadsided an elderly couple who turned out while they were racing.
Unfortunately that couple passed away that night. Of course the racers were just fine. Seemed really unfair if you ask me.
That was my last night street racing. Took it to the track and never looked back.
You just don't know what is going to happen next when you play on the streets, and for all of the fun I thought I was having I can not get around the fact that it killed people who were not involved with it in anyway. Can not get that scene out of my head when I see kids playing around on the streets today.

The clip where the car gets pulled over, then takes off doing doughnuts around the cop and running from them was all staged. It's from a channel called Daily Driven Exotics.
'Two-step' is simply a term for an ignition cut that limits the RPM of the car to it's ideal launch RPM and/or build boost with the turbo, if you're in a race car. A lot of ricers have them installed just for the backfire noise.
The Mustang that was racing and all the sudden burst into a cloud of smoke was a highly modified car that decided it wanted the connecting rods to be on the outside of the block instead of inside and the smoke was oil pouring all over the exhaust.

I ran the original 2 step. The N2MB WOT Box. It's an early launch control setup for turbo cars that keeps the turbo partially spooled up for strong launches. The 2 step name refers to it being only two steps to launch (foot on brake and gas then release brake).
The WOT box was different in that it also included a no lift shift feature or WOT (wide open throttle) tune that let you stay buried in the throttle during shifts and it would cut timing to allow the turbo to stay spooled during shifts. Modern computers do all this for you, but not the SRT4 I had at the time.

The Lamborghini Aventador clip at 5:10ish, they had a venting tube for fumes near the exhaust I think. It would get too hot and ignite at times. That V12 makes a lot of heat. I'm sure they updated that flaw for the later revisions such as the SV, S, SVJ, etc
In my younger days I had a big block Fury and my brother had a Barracuda formula S with a 340. We used to terrorize the streets. Forty years later I rarely drive more then 45 mph. I live in extremely rural county, where you need to be home when the sun goes down. A couple of nights ago, a Deputy was driving fast in his Charger hemi taking a domestic call. He hit a deer, the cruiser caught fire and the Deputy died. I look back on my younger days a little embarrassed at the foolishness of youth. Y'all drive safe out there.

We have the interceptor unmarked cars to. I had one keep up with me when I was on a motorcycle till about 200 than I lost him but this was 15 years ago and I got off the road in 5 minutes and hide.

The sound in the video with the mustang catching on fire is the turbo spooling. The turbine spins so fast and sucks so much air it makes that sound.
The GT-R is four-wheel drive, they don't drift
its AWD and yes you can drift AWD just like how can can drift FWD, its not going to be as "cool" looking as RWD.
You can also turn any car from AWD to RWD, you can even get kits that allow you to switch out of AWD to RWD almost like how 4WD vehicles are setup.

I have watched some of the British police shows like intercepters and yes it seems like about 80% of them don't even get charged. It's like what is the use of even going after them.

The ticket goes to the driver not the owner.

Most these cars that street race on the freeway have around 800 to 1200 hp so when you that much smoke that means it's on fire or they blew up there engine

A 2 step is basically a lower rev limiter. you can engage the 2 step and rev the car to a set rpm where it cuts cylinders out. Then when you release the switch the car will rev up to full rpm. Its basically a launch aid. They have exsisted in drag racing for many decades. They have started to find their way into more street cars as a launch control. They are normally used in conjunction with a trans brake or for a turbo car a 3 step with a trans brake interrupt.
I have a GT350 but I don't go to car meet ups or drive like a moron.

The reason you never see anyone get away, in those police chase shows, isn't because no one ever gets away. It's because they don't include the ones that get away, in the show. That would look bad on the police, and it also makes people (like you guys) believe that nobody escapes. If everyone believes that you can never get away, then nobody will ever try.

Actually, believe it or not, a very large number of people who run from the cops get away. I'd guess that's it's actually the majority, but there's of course no way to prove that. In many metropolitan areas, police agencies have a policy where if a chase exceeds a certain speed or duration, the police will be directed to stand down because a chase is a public safety hazard. Also, street bikes (600-1000cc inline 4s) can very, very easily outrun the police, and often do. Lots of clips of this on UA-cam too. But yeah don't try it haha.
Back in the '90s my buddy was trying to run from the cops on his crotch rocket... It was the fastest one made that year.
The police helicopter was brought out, but the helicopter can only go 150, the bike could go 186
So my buddy went full throttle on i-95 for about 7 minutes going 186, and then got off at an exit that had little bit of woods right next to it and just drove the bike right into the woods off the interstate.. and then laid there in the woods and waited until the helicopter passed by

Cops can't "get you" from a UA-cam video - You must be caught red handed. It's not the car they are after, but the driver and anyone could have been driving the car when the video was made.

Those clips where some kid is doing donuts or something then a cop shows up and the kid races off with the crowd cheering always make me laugh. Because those stupid kids don't realize what's actually happening. That cop that shows up isn't there to chase him, the cops know the stupid kid is gonna take off, so they send one cop in with his lights on to flush them out, then the kid runs away not realizing that there's already 4 or 5 other cops down the street blocking all the exits. They ALWAYS get caught.
