I heard "Money" on radio in high school a bunch of times but had no idea what the rest of the album was about. Most of us did not have record players or the money to purchase albums, so we were limited to what we heard on the radio. It wasn't until after high school that I got to hear everything they (and Yes and Led Zeppelin) had to offer. Now having a record player and money to buy albums resulted in a mind-blowing experience as I learned that the radio was very limited.
Your discovery of music other than what was presented on a typical radio station (most of us only had AM in our cars) in those days matches mine almost exactly! I graduated from high school in 1973, and like you, I didn't have a record player or stereo system, and didn't buy albums until after that. When I got my first stereo system in my car, with FM radio and cassette player, it opened me up to so much music from bands I knew of, but up to then had only heard their AM radio-friendly hits.
Spooky that you mentioned Led Zeppelin and Yes. Along with Pink Floyd, they are my top three all time fav bands!
So interesting! I was first exposed to Pink Floyd in 1974 while stationed on Okinawa. Loved their work and they have been one of my favorite bands since.
Pink Floyd is Legendary, their music is an Experience. I was a teenager in the 1970s, I saw many of the Classic Rock bands of the 70s live, but no band was like Pink Floyd.
I was fortunate enough to have been at a performance of The Wall Concert in 1980, it was in February of that year at The Coliseum in Uniondale NY, Long Island.
Because of the massiveness of The Wall Tour, literally and expense wise, Pink Floyd only performed twelve concert dates in the United States in 1980. Six on the east coast, (Long Island Ny), and 6 on the west coast, (LA).
Tickets sold out for all shows almost immediately, I was very fortunate to get some. Living in Connecticut, (US), att, it was only about a two-hour drive from my town to the the Coliseum on Long Island, logistically, another fortunate outcome for me.
The Wall concert was the most incredible, phenomenal performance of any kind, that I have ever witnessed in all my 67 years on this planet.
From planes crashing into the enormous stage, and bursting in a ball of fire,.... to, 35-foot-tall blow-up puppets walking across the stage as the concert is being performed!
Just out of this world, even 43 years ago,...
I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd on the Division Bell tour, which became the Pulse Album. In my Opinion they are 1 of the Greatest bans EVER...
There is an error in the description of the spitting incident during the concert at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal on July 6, 1977.
The spitting incident did not occur due to the refusal to play an encore, but rather during the first part of the concert.
It was during the 5th song of the concert, "Pigs (Three Different Ones)", that Roger spat in the face of an overly rambunctious fan.
During the 1st part of the concert, Pink Floyd played the Animals album in full, but not in the usual order, here is the setlist of the 1st part:
Sheep - Pigs on the Wing, Part 1 - Dogs - Pigs on the Wing, Part 2 - Pigs (Three Different Ones).
The Division Bell is an incredible album. The "mixed reviews" have more to do with people objecting to it sounding different to classic Pink Floyd. However, it's a brilliant album in its own right.
I agree 👍 💯 % most underrated Floyd album. It's my 2nd favorite behind Animals ..
Shame it doesn't mention
Pink Floyd "Echoes" Live at Pompeii 1972
It did, I heard that in the video
Love love love you Sarah.
"The Making of Dark Side of the Moon" is well worth a watch to see the botched together methods they used to get the sounds & voices alone. A classic.
The Wall tour was so expensive that the band (Waters, Gilmour, Mason) didn't really make any money on it, but Rick Wright, being just a paid performer, did...
Well that was awesome.
Thank you..
If you get the chance review the song : "POLES APART" from the album: Divison BELL 🔔
It's another song in reference to
"Sid Barrett" . A very under rated album. IMO 🎤🥁🎸🎺🎷🎼🎵🎶
I still remember your reaction to "Echoes"! Great reaction, and I look forward to you reacting to some other PF stuff!
Please do The Wall...it's an absolute masterpiece.
Hey there Sarah ,i am in agreeance with you . I have loved them since 74 . Masters of prog along with Yes and Genesis .
P.F.wiish Syd (C. Diamond) were here 🙂.
just one class band.
Waters leave P.F. ? It's right .. he was to Syd comfortubly Numb. 😔
Syd in 2006 Year died 😔.
What this summary doesn't talk about is what Roger Waters went on to do afterwards. He has toured globally performing mainly The Wall, Dark Side and Wish You Were Here at gigantic concerts including at the Berlin Wall when it was torn down. He has done hundreds of live concerts like this. Check out some of these concerts online and see the movie The Wall!
He also went on to have some extreme political stands
Hy Sarah
Roger Waters and David Gilmore recently insulted each other again. Which is of course a pity, because these two musicians (also the other members of the band) made great music. If you feel like it, listen to the Roger Waters song "Roger Waters - Wait for Her". The song came out a few years ago and shows you what a great composer and lyricist he is (a very nice song).
And if it doesn't get too tiring for you, then a track by Pink Floyd "Poles Apart" ( Division Bell Album ) which is about the relationship between Gilmor and Waters, with a great melody and one of the most beautiful guitar solos, by Gilmore (just please the studio version)
Thank you for your time if you have read everything. Please keep doing such good and emotional reactions videos.
Gilmour 👍🏼
@@lynnhoffman247 Sorry, my fault, of course his name is Gilmour!
@@Hallstarr I think autocorrect does that quite often to his name 🤷🏼♀️😂 But I like for new people that may be reading comments to know the correct spelling in case they want to look him up. ✌🏼
This reminds me how hard it was to succeed in the music biz pre- internet...You had to tour your azz off, not do podcasts. (Live shows ALWAYS get you more fans, because you connect with them more) But it made the bands of 60's and 70's better because they got tighter/ better each show. Also, you really couldn't go nowhere without label support--They'd give you time to develop, and today it's "One and done" type contracts--if ya don't sell a million, they drop ya--The main reason the quality of today's music is so bad.
Please have a listen to Roger Waters wait for her. It’s well worth it.
UFO was pronounced 'ew-foh', not 'you-ef-,oh'.
The lyrics left a lot to be desired after Roger left the band.
