Wow Dave and Dan, I'm speechless, absolutely brilliant and such a touching tribute to your Dad. I was getting a little choked up watching if I'm honest... It's simple, solumn and so heartfelt. Loved the throwbacks and the harmonies are amazing as always, especially when the second Dave appears! Been listening to some Beach Boys on vinyl and these harmonies are just as tight. Loved it ♥ 👏
Louise Steel Music awwww thanks Louise! I’m glad some of the emotion got through, even though it’s a sad dedication. I think it’s also a life celebration. And thank you for the compliment on the harmonies. Beach Boys were one of the best for that for sure. That second Dave is an elusive creature who comes and goes like the wind. Hard to pin him down for long. 😂
Thank you so much for your honoring of your dad. I am 73 now and I still miss your dad and his eternal spirit that now dwells in you boys. I started following your dad back when he first started and never missed what ever he would be working on. I was raising horses goats chickens etc, I know you get that. Anyway I quickly learned on my guitar everything he offered. I knew my voice wasn't the best and PTSD interfered however, my heart still crys when I think of all he meant and still does me so much to me. I am certain that he is singing with the angels somewhere. You boys have great talent. Please never quit. Willum
My Dad, a music teacher (k through 12) passed away in 1996 due to complications from cancer caused by Agent Orange exposure. I listened to this song for a very long time after he died. Now, I can listen to it without breaking down. Thank you for such a beautiful rendition💙
Hi Andrea... I'm so sorry, I read your comment shortly after you posted it, but meant to respond but I guess I forgot. You're welcome, and I'm glad you enjoyed our version and tribute to all the awesome dads out there
6-26-22 This is an absolutely incredible rendition of a beautiful song. This tribute to your dad will live on in his memory for a long time. Thanks for sharing with us. Great heartfelt tribute!!
Ok Dave you lifted me up yesterday, one year after loosing my best friend my dad, with a great laugh. Then today, ok I cried my chest hurt thinking of my dad and all the memories. Thats ok because after crying like that your body releases endorfinesg which make you feel better. That is the trouble with us men specially my age 46 we were taught that crying is a weakness. If more guys cried I think there would be a lot less trips to the jail and not as many sorries and flowers. My dad was in the Army for over 20 years and he was a highly decorated Vietnam vet. He was my hero every day when he came home in his uniform I wanted to be just like him when I grew up. You can imagine how upset he was when I bucked the family way and entered the police academy. I was the first male in my family that did not severe in the military and did not go to war for this country. I told him that all of the years in military school kind of changed my dreams of going into the military. The odd thing about my decision out of all the men in my family that saw combat in WWll and Vietnam. They all came back from war with out getting wounded I almost lost my life in the line of duty. He told me see if you would of went into the military this may never happened.lol. This was beautiful and know he is proud of you and he is watching over you just like my dad is watching over me if you have the same believes. All the good guitar players that I have seen have long skinny fingers. I feel like I need to loose some weight but how much weight does one have to loose before their fingers loose fat.lol
Hey Wayne... thanks for watching man, and I'm glad it gave you some emotional moments, even if they were sad. Shit Idc about guys crying... it's a human emotion and you are correct: men are discouraged from showing such emotions...
Dave Rucci : You sound just like your dad. This has always been one of my most favorite songs of all time, and my most favorite Dan Fogelberg song. I still have tears coming down my cheeks. This is so beautiful.
This is amazing, really. A wonderful heartfelt tribute by two incredible musicians. Your dad will be proud of you. Thanks for sharing this with us all, with your pictures, too.
Federico Borluzzi Federico, thank you my good friend! I’m glad you got to see this tribute. My dad was my Italian side of the family. Those Italians love their accordions too! 😊
Well done boys. My dad is not a musician, I am, but in some way he made a piece of it. And I love playing this song thinking about him. This song is such a strong testimony of love from a son towards its father...
Rudy J Wow thanks so much Rudy! If your dad is still here don’t hold back to tell him anything if you feel the need. Once he’s gone you’ve missed the chance. I was fortunate enough to have some very good talks w my dad before his time was up. Thanks for sharing your story 👍🏻
Wow, a brilliant cover! I've seen earlier a live performance by Dan Folgerberg, and it's a bit slower and so melancholic, and so heart moving. But then, Dan is the original one.
Dave and Dan, I am very sorry for the loss of your father. It is very sad. I am very touched....but you must keep in your heart the good memories and the good time from him, this man who gave you life and guided you. This is a wonderful tribute to your father....it is actualy perfect: each sound, voices and mélody are expressed from your hearts. Thank you for sharing . Joseph
Gary Raymond hey thanks very much for your condolences and for watching Gary! He asked us to play a song for his funeral, and we thought this song was perfect. Thanks again!
You couldn't have picked a better song to dedicate to your Dad Dave and Dan. My partner Dominik and I were blown away by this flawless performance; we could feel the love in your voices. It is true you each have wonderful voices but when you sang together the harmony was pure magic. You both did your father proud and as you so rightly put it, the song may be sad but it encapsulates the love and respect you have for the man he was. Thank you for sharing this special song by Dan Fogelberg with it's very moving and poignant lyrics. Lorraine #242
Amazing, heartfelt tribute from you and your brother. Loved seeing the photos of you guys with your dad, you can tell you all had a special bond. Peace and love, my friend!
Dave Rucci : I thought that maybe Dan Fogelberg was your father. Your father looked a lot like Dan Fogelberg. And you two sound just like him. I'm sorry for your loss. Hey Steve thanks so much for your comments! Yea you’re not the first one who thought we were Fogelberg’s sons. Lol. Perhaps my video title is misleading. Anyways, yes I love this song as you do and it always reminds me of my pops... Sorry for the loss of your father 😣
Dave, the past few days and nights, I've surfed all over UA-cam and have watched maybe two dozen covers of this song. And most covers are from people all over the world. Dan Fogelberg's masterpiece eclipses all generations, all races and all cultures and unites all of us, men, women, and children under one aspect. We all, at one time or another, whether we knew him or not, have, or had a DADDY. I'm sorry for your loss. In that picture of your father with you and your brother as little kids, except for the hair, your dad actually looked a lot like Dan Fogelberg. You and your brother did an incredibly beautiful job with this song. I've only seen just one cover of this song that stinks. I mean really sucks. Luci Arnaz, the daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
@@DaveRucci I wrote that comment a week ago, and I still haven't gotten your version out of my head. I forgot to mention, your brother has a great voice, too. Does he have a music channel? Jst watched again. Brought me to tears.
your dad was a great singer and songwriter, I love everything he wrote and sung, I think of my dad when I hear this song, a great tribute to your dad, and you did it well,, thank you both,
Oh hello. Thanks very much! Dan Fogelberg is not my father... lol. Sorry if my title was confusing. We dedicated his song to my dad when HE passed, but I can see how the title may have confused you. Thanks for watching 😄

Wow! Dave, I just discovered that one. What an amazing piece of music, this really touched my heart. I lost my father some years ago, he brought me to music as well. Thanks for doing this, guys.
Hey Mike, thanks for commenting on this and that it touched upon your life and experience with your dad too. Dan and I sang this at his funeral mass and I wanted to memorialize our version of it on UA-cam. I couldn't help but add a few old school pics of us growing up with pops!
Wow Dave and Dan!! What an incredible performance!! Simply flawless!! And your photos were just so touching!! However, the video of your Dad at the end of the photos, just ripped my heart out!! Oh my goodness!! This is just such a wonderful dedication to such a wonderful man!! My condolences for the loss of your Dad!! May he rest in peace as he smiles down at his gifted musical family!! Thank you both for sharing such a personal memory!! Have a wonderful weekend!! God bless! :-)

I am grateful for you my friend and very glad to have your support! Also thank you for the condolences... means a lot. 😊
You're very welcome, Dave! I can only imagine your emotions. Sadly, it's a part of life but it's never an easy acceptance, no matter the prior circumstances. My condolences once again, my friend! It never gets any easier as it is said, but I truly believe we learn to accept what has happened. We just view it in a different light. Leader of the Band
An only child alone and wild, a cabinet maker's son
His hands were meant for different work
And his heart was known to none
He left his home and went his lone and solitary way
And he gave to me a gift I know I never can repay
A quiet man of music denied a simpler fate
He tried to be a soldier once, but his music wouldn't wait
He earned his love through discipline, a thundering velvet hand
His gentle means of sculpting souls took me years to understand
The leader of the band is tired and his eyes are growing old
But his blood runs through my instrument and his song is in my soul
My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man
I'm just a living legacy to the leader of the band
My brother's lives were different for they heard another call
One went to Chicago and the other to St Paul
And I'm in Colorado when I'm not in some hotel
Living out this life I've chose and come to know so well
I thank you for the music and your stories of the road
I thank you for the freedom when it came my time to go
I thank you for the kindness and the times when you got tough
And papa, I don't think I said I love you near enough
The leader of the band is tired and his eyes are growing old
But his blood runs through my instrument and his song is in my soul
My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man
I'm just a living legacy to the leader of the band
I am a living legacy to the leader of the band

I am just the living legacy ...
