When I was younger I thought he was just running away now I’m older and see he’s just a genius at boxing. He can recognize the slightest body movement and knows what the opponent will do before he does it. Seeing him teach Alvarez as good as he is was amazing. Just a master at movement, counter punching, saving energy. Masterful boxing.

Anyone can look like the king of boxing if you box with a beginner. Match him up with another good boxer and you’ll see the difference. It’s like an adult playing soccer with kids. Of course you will look like a pro. But throw the adult into the World Cup then he will struggle. Same with boxing if you box little kids or someone who has none or barely any experience you’ll look so good but match him up with someone as good then he’ll run around like what he’s good at.

The way Floyd can make your eyes move away from the target and catch you in the literal millisecond you’re distracted is nothing short of mind blowing. Notice even as he’s taunting his sparring partner/opponents and they even begin to show a reaction and get distracted he tags them. It goes so much farther then just Floyd’s God given cat like reflexes, his awareness of where your eyes are and where your focusing is remarkable. He goes above and beyond just using head movement and subtle feints like most boxers do. He moves his hands and feet to make you look away just for a split moment to strike then instantly move out of the way of your counters. Then as the round goes on he capitalizes on your frustration by slowly turning up his intensity but not over exerting himself and still keeping his wits about him to still avoid your strikes. The man literally is the definition of the “ sweet science” of boxing. Poetry in motion.

    • @juliansanderson839

Not a very good strategy for tiring out an opponent... you have to cover twice as much distance to circle, while the opponent can cover the radius with a pivot.

As a beginner boxer, I want to commend ANY young fighter who gets in the ring with a Pro Fighter, no matter what their status is. I got in the ring with pro fighters and I went 4 three minute rounds with them.
I did not do it out of trying to be tough, I did it out of “I respect you, but I want to let myself know that I can take the heat and that I have something to fight for as well”. Even though I felt it a week later, the pro fighters respected me for this.
Floyd respects these young guns so much that he spars them so they can feel what “greatness feels like”, what you have to do, think, act, react, and etc.
Every Pro Fighter and I mean EVERYONE knows there is a guy somewhere right now who has nothing, nobody, no answers, maybe suicidal thoughts, but he has a dream. He is probably in the dungeon right now with a lack luster coach who is fueling him up. That fighter is probably 10, 12, heck maybe even 6 or 7 ready to dethrone whoever is at the top some years from now or whoever decides to come back to the game.
Floyd is like a big brother, uncle, and even Father to some of these young men, he training them up so he can sit on the throne when his times comes to embrace all he built in this sport. My Brother from college who taught me boxing told me the last thing that any fighter has left when he is an old old old man is his ego. He is going to fight even when he physically cannot.
Salute to the young man in the ring, Salute to the OG Floyd.

He does it to stay in shape and because he knows this is the level he will compete against in lame exhibitions, and there’s nothing respectful about his showboating, it’s just a laugh for him. Being an elite boxer beating up rookies is not respectful. Also known to be very racist toward white guys in his gym.

2:36 to 2:47 was the best moment to me. Floyd barely breaks a sweat, relaxively keeping in his tempo, Jarvis nervously waiting for Floyd to shoot a jab he can see, so he can counter or find himself in an exchange he can predict. The singular jab ends the arguement that Jarvis is trying to have with the far more experienced Floyd. It's a total reflection of what would realistically happen if Floyd were to take the spar a little more seriously. The follow up jabs are just a consistent reminder of that fact.
