Hey thank you for this enriching video, my question is about the camshaft, why is there any decompression valvle, as per my understanding all the 400 CC motors are equipped with this cam that help engine start and maintain the runing in low rpm
Hey, after a complete rebuild, following your instructions word for word. I went to start it up, and an extremely loud knocking noise came about and it wouldn't start. I believe my timing was off and my chain was stuck somehow on the teeth deep down in there.
What do I do if the cylinder where the piston is that will not come off I remove all of the bolts, and for some reason thought this would slide right off, but it will not at all???
What rebuild kit did you use for this build? I saw the review you guys did for the QA kit and you said you used it on a build video I was wondering if it was this one
15 foot pounds then add 33 pound that consider 48 foot pound? Manual it said 33 foot pound that it. I wasn’t sure you mean 15foot pound then add 18 foot pound equal as 33 foot pound of torque?
Entirely depends on the motor, engine wear, and how well the owner takes care of the machine...or abuses it. The bottom end of a motor typically has longer service intervals compared to the top end. Theres a lot of factors there.

Anyone interested in trading a 400ex or other sport quad for a 2011 Yamaha Grizzly 4x4 IRS that's like brand new? Meticulously maintained, just want a sport quad to build. will send pics.
Time for a bottom end video! I have a 400ex that you could use to demonstrate lol
This channel has made me self made thanks!!!
A lower end rebuild would be a good video addition for the 400ex!
Great Explanation..thanks!!
Best Wishes!!
Love these vids

It would be helpful if you would show the way to do some of the stuff with and without a special tool.
Thanks this video is great

Did you figure out what caused it ?
How do you inspect the cam journals and rocker arms? I looked in service manual and don’t see how to inspect or specs.
Im doing the same rebuild but I notice that on the intake side of the head thers a threated hole right next to the carb intake what is the for

The top end kit did not come with a o-ring for under the cylinder so dose that mean I don't need it or should I put one in? And what's it for anyway?
Did you ever figure it out ? I’ve got the same question
@@1johnathan011 yes I changed mine
does this apply to the xr400r engine?

What do you do if the motor locked up and you can’t spin it to find TDC
What was that plunger and spring by the valve springs I didn't have one
Decompression for stock cams. Hotcams doesn’t use it and some remove then.
I’m just confused on why there’s a plunger and spring when it’s clear that a stage 2 cam is present on the bike

Great video but if the engine is worn doesn’t that mean the Crankshaft and piston rod be worn too so then the whole engine have to be replaced?
